Hunt or the WR... who is to blame more?

i would prefer to not have to wait for the light bulb to go on a few games into a senior season

i don't know what to think about hunt yet. but i don't want to be sitting here in september of 2015 hearing about how long it took nassib

A few games into? He went for 482 and 4 td's in his first game last year.

I suppose but what do people want with their unrealistic expectations for Quarterbacks? People need to watch other QB’s around the country more. The great ones are few and far between.

Here are Marvin Graves' freshman numbers:

115 for 200
57.5 %
1711 yards
8.6 Y/A
9 touchdowns
11 interceptions

Hunt is 41-67; 61%
520 yards;
7 touchdowns
3 interceptions

It is my opinion that neither Allen or Hunt are the answer and I hope Hunt gets recruited over. Not sure he has the arm to win big time games. Playing the likes of Clemson and FSU we will not be having people running wide open the QB will have to make some big time throws and I am not sure Hunt can do that.

But I have said from day 1 in the PSU game the WR's are the major problem. Outside of Broyld the ones that play are low level D1 talent.

I could not agree more with this entire statement. Our answer at QB is not on this roster. I feel sad when people think he is.

you want us to watch other qbs and then bring up graves? that's ancient history.

guys are more prepared to step in and play QB than they used to be. don't have to draft anymore cecil howards crossing our fingers.

i would take graves numbers in a heart beat for hunt this year. that's a good YPA

WR will hold him back from approaching that. even with wagner and tulane, hunt's a full yard short of that. not his fault.

i would take a 133 rating this year. i am worried though.

one game in first 5 FBS games over 140 rating.

4 of last 7 over 140.

uconn on was when he turned it on. NW was basically 2 pretty good games in 1 game.

First five games he averaged 318 yds per game, 65% completion percentage, had 11 TD's and 8 picks. 4 of 6 games 322 yds or better.

From when he "turned it on" he averaged 264 yds, 60% completion percentage, and had 15 TD's and 2 picks. 2 of 7 games over 300 yds.

The difference in rating was the interceptions, that's it.

I brought up Graves because Hunt has been compared to him quite a bit and Graves is more or less considered to be one of Syracuse’s top 3/4QB’s in its history.

Graves’ frosh numbers are rather pedestrian. What’s Hunt’s rating now?

I bring up QB’s around the country because they are all up and down. Few are consistently good.

10 games into Taj Boyd’s redshirt sophomore season Clemson got drilled by South Carolina 34-13. Boyd’s numbers that game;

11-29
83 yards
1 td
1 int

And few QB’s are more ready to play nowadays.

Hunt showed that he wasn't overmatched athletically Sat. And what he did the two previous games passing, regardless of opponent, showed what he is capable of. He's a good enough to win 4 of the next 7, which is all he needs to do.

Next year will take care of itself, whether it's Hunt, Wilson, Kimble or Long.

that terrible game has a 66 rating.

a 27 rating is crazy terrible. cameron dantley never had a game like that. that's joe fields , arob at their worst territory. I hope this was a perfect sh!tstorm of scared inexperienced coaching, clemson firing on all cylinders and hunt pressing and gagging a little bit

edit: the 62-0 slaughter in 2000 - SU as a team had 26 passer rating.

i still have high-ish hopes for hunt and worst case, I want to know what we have there (rather than waste time with allen)

graves threw way too many int

he had really high yards per attempt down the stretch too. and td per attempt

Yeah, because play action was effective and he didn't have to be a volume passer to move the ball through the air. He had much bigger windows to throw to and guys running open because the run game turned around.

Allen missed open receivers. Hunt didn't have open receivers. If Allen were the QB last night there would have been far, far more sacks and a couple less first downs.

And more balls batted down at the line of scrimmage.

Hunt did pretty well given the circumstances, I think. RSoph with few starts under his belt, and nobody to throw to most of the time against a legit national title contender. He made some mistakes, but didn't flat-out lose the game for us. Kept his composure well, too.

We had bodies at WR, yet McDonald went after a bunch for last year's class. Curious at the time, now maybe we see why.

I think with Hunt we have a young guy who just needs time. The QB's they brought in are probably in the same category, promising but need time. At WR I think maybe the staff sees that they needed different guys for the O they wanted to run, and time wouldn't really help the existing roster. Maybe.

Not to defend Allen but the Wagner game was scripted per Shafer. Allen was getting the first 3 series and good or bad, was coming out and Hunt was getting the next 3. Then a decision would be made for the rest of the game. Easy decision.

Those "fans" who booed Allen when he came in Saturday should just stay away.

I'm in section 129 and didn't hear any booing.

Piling on...

@philsteele042: Syr QB Terrel Hunt hit just 8 of 24 passes vs Clemson and did not complete a single pass to a WR. Hunt "They're a fast covering team"

Like I am sure most here have done, I have watched a lot of low tier football teams play just because it was the only game on. That said, I have seen QBs threading the needle on passes and WRs making 1 handed catches and diving catches. I just don't understand why Syracuse seems to struggle bringing in a legit #1. Mike Williams was the last one. Yes Lemon put up good numbers but he was not an explosive #1 type. I remember watching the explosiveness of guys like Williams and Taj Smith. I think Broyld is as close as we have and his hands need a TON of work.

Any fans that boo any player should keep bagging leaves. Fact.

I'm sure it's a combo of many many things and it's a team game and we need all of them to step up their games.

Sometimes I wonder if Hunt is so focused on his receivers that he never looks at the tight end or dumping off to a RB (more middle of field), which seems like we don't do either. Could also be simply Wales being hurt and the other 2 not figuring out the position yet. I keep going back to the Allen trying to get Moore in the right place 2 or 3 times at the end of the game.

A big key to this Clemson thing is how will the players react and will they learn from it. I'm hoping this showed the team what level they need to get too and this includes the coaches as well by putting the players in a position where they can have success and not try to push a circle through a square..

How many sacks does Allen take Saturday that Hunt didnt? How many yards gained on the ground does Allen make that Hunt made yesterday on busted plays? How many pics does Allen throw yesterday? Neither are world beaters when it comes to passing, but Hunt provides for a larger margin of error for the offense.

My sense Saturday was that Hunt threw two INTs that resulted from WRs failing to run their routes correctly.

Hunt runs better and seems more in control than Allen. But, at this point, I guess we still don't know what we have with TH.

Is our biggest problem that we have a group full of slot WRs? Broyld is only playing there. Clark seems like the prototypical smaller, quicker slot guy. Everyone says that West would play better in the slot. Who's left, Kobena?

Funderburke?

Clark ate up the high school teams we played. Was smothered on Saturday. I am not a fan of him either. Broyld is all we have honestly, which is why Estime and eve Funderburke need a chance. Our current guys are not getting it done.

Clark is awfully small and light. Unless you're a DeSean, Tavon, or even a Travis Benjamin type burner it's hard for a guy like Clark to do anything against a talented defense with bigger DBs than Clark. Worried about these WRs vs NC St. Supposedly a better secondary than Clemson.
