I always loved our old O

We used the option quite a bit. Then during the McNabb years we went away from it. What we have seen so far from this O reminds me a lot of those McPherson and Graves offenses. Options, runs, and a lot of big pass plays. I would love to see us come full circle and this O to be our new (old) identity that fosters in a new era of Cuse football success.

yes with the new walk on qb if somehow he can manage it and succeed looking like a reincarnation of Mark McDonald. No if Dungy makes it back as I don't want him to get tagged any more than necessary. Kids that important and will be the difference between w's and L's. gotta keep him healthy.

I don't recall Graves ever getting injured. McNabb either, and he ran and scrambled all the time. Those guys were tackled and hit often.

This was a fluke cheap shot to the head. It could've happened to any QB, and is in no way evidence that Dungey is fragile or anything like that.

His scrambling and poise and ability to make plays when improvising that he has shown so far are what make certain players special.

It seems like QBs get hurt more often on pass plays then run plays. When they pass they are more stationary and can end up taking bigger hits or bent into a pretzel. I want to protect Dungey vs LSU though.

he had also shown that he knows how to get tackled. I was worried about running him too much but he wasn't getting hit that hard and he isn't small. he got targeted, and the dude speared him and he is hurt. it wasn't and offensive scheme problem or anyones fault except for the mid-major meathead that intentionally hurt him.

Graves back was wrecked by his senior year. It had an effect on the 1993 season. McNabb had slight separations in both shoulders by the VT game in 1997. He was wrapped up like a mummy at practice going into that game.

Did either ever miss a game though? I don't remember that happening.

I'm sure they got banged up at times(Graves memorably took a beating in that '92 Miami game), but no serious injuries for either that I recall.

I believe it would be exponentially harder to recruit QBs who can throw when running an option scheme. Given how hard it has been for us while running offenses that are not the option, I would hate to see what the QB recruiting success would look like if we went back to the 90's offense.

I am fine running it 3-5 times a game as a change up to give the other team another wrinkle to prep for.

I wonder how much easier it is from the shotgun without having to make a decision to give to the fullback. Maybe it is simple enough to incorporate. Devils advocate - I share your concerns in general

Graves was very diminished his senior year

The team went 0-3 in 97 during that time

They were serious

Did you just do what I think you did?

DeLeone had to use Doug Womack to run the option because Graves had a bad wheel, right?

It certainly has been fun to watch.

not sure i follow the math but if you're suggesting the 1993 season underachieved because Graves was concussed, I'll give you credit for originality.

Graves back was a mess his senior year

Where did I mention concussion

The irony about 93 (and 94 a real transition year) was those teams are better than any team Syracuse has run out since 2001. Both teams would be solid bowl teams in today's "everyone goes to a bowl with 500 record."

We tend to diminish those teams because of the great 91-92 outfits but 93/94 were good teams that happened to be not great.

the finish to 94 was so bad. they lost by a point to oklahoma after an unbelievable rally then won 6 in a row. last 4 games, they were shut out twice and scored 6 in another game.

Graves' senior year stats were nearly identical to his Junior year stats.

Was the '94 the team where Jamal Dumas bragged about his off-season program of packing 10lbs on to his gut? I think he was a Team Captain too. When I read that...I thought the team might be in trouble.

deleones'' freeze option. graves and mcnabb both had far superior nfl type talent to throw to after the freeze.
