I can't be the only one who wonders about Broyld at QB

Again, reread the first paragraph of the thread, troll. I never said I wanted Broyld to replace Hunt. I think you are a troll because you make stuff up and are generally annoying
Well, you wonder about it
"I can't be the only one who wonders about Broyld at QB"

Cue the music?

Seriously though. You ever think Brady just sits there while wearing his ugg boots and thinks to himself, what the did I do to get so lucky?

What have I made up? Ill wait while you point them out. I simply stated Hunt has started only 3 games and does not have much experience. He is having typical hiccups for someone starting their 3rd game. If this was a whole season issue, then yes I believe we may have an issue. But you need to give him time to adjust. This is all brand new to him as well. I then said the offensive coordinator is not necessarily helping him out. We are throwing to set up the run instead of running to set up the throw. Then all of a sudden you say these are not normal sophomore hiccups and brought Andrew Robinson and Cameron Dantley into the equation, stating Hunt is worse then they were at there worst. I didnt bring them into the conversation, you did. You did not state QB rating, you only stated QB rating in your original post. I was not talking about QB rating at all. All I did was provide a sample from a couple of Dantley's starts all in the second half of his junior year and senior year. They were not quality days, two of those days were a loss to Akron by 14 and beat northeastern by 9 for christs sakes. Hunt dismantled Wagner, a 5-2 Tulane team, and did just enough with the help of his RB to beat State. I would love to know how any of this is trolling. Im sorry you are back and forth with your arguments, but just look at the title of your post. You say your giving Hunt the benefit of the doubt in your first paragraph, yet your saying you wonder if Broyld should be the QB in your heading. Your trying to cover your ass either way, so your not wrong.

You made up that I'm saying we should replace hunt with Broyld.

Weird, I must have confused you with someone else who titled their post "I can't be the only one who wonders about Broyld at QB"

I honestly don't see much sense in changing Broyld for Hunt at this point.
  1. Hunt is 3-1 (I give him credit for Wagner, Tulane, NC State and loss to Clemson)
  2. NC State and Clemson are two of the better pass defenses in the ACC thus far this season.
  3. They are both dual QB's and Hunt runs very effectively so unless you think AB has better command of the playbook or better arm strength, what is the point?
  4. Broyld is the leading receiver by a wide margin. Who replaces that?
  5. Broyld seems happy in his role.
  6. Hunt is a RS Soph!
  7. The rest of the way the pass d's we will face except for FSU are not as good as the ones we have faced.
  8. We have no WRs except for Broyld in the slot.
  9. Hunt has what 160+ all purpose yards last week? I don't care how he gets them.
Unless you are giving up with Hunt, which is crazy, let it play out and he will bring us to a bowl this year.

that's not the same thing as saying we should bench hunt and start broyld

i was very careful to point out that i am not arguing we should bench hunt. i made that the very first paragraph in the thread because I knew i needed to be careful with so many annoying gnat dipsh!ts on this forum. i underestimated the annoying dipsh!ttedness of people like you

I doubt it as he seems to be one of the most miserable people on the planet. Never satisfied. Although that's why he's great.

I'm wondering less about Broyld at QB, and more about how realistic it is that we see Wilson/Kimble/Long next season at QB. I would say Hunt doesn't exactly have a stranglehold on the position.

god help the program if Hunt has a stranglehold on the job. I really hope we recruit over him, and quickly. Kid throws the ball like it weighs 30 pounds. If only we had an offensive line with any skill this year, Allen would have kept the job pretty easily. Allen would've been very good under last years squad.

I can't wait to see the other responses to this post.

honestly, i shouldnt have even bothered writing it. the responses are very predictable. I do not like Hunt as a qb, at all, but the truth is that Allen needs a good O-line to be successful and we dont have one.

We arent bringing in AJ Long to be a waterboy, so lets hope he beats out Hunt because its clear he doesnt have it.

If it's true that it's a playbook issue, we need a different playbook.

nassib's development worked out just great for us and i was wrong about where he'd end up as a senior but that's hardly good reason to make that the ideal plan.

we need to start recruiting QBs and running offenses that can be more successful earlier.

i don't think it's the playbook though. i just think the guys throwing and catching aren't that good.

I still say that the overall game plan didn't really do Nassib any favors his soph and junior year. There was always talk of controlling the clock or not putting too much on his plate, etc. but outside of showing some solid improvement on the deep ball (not that he was ever going to be incredible in this regard), Nassib looked pretty similar to me as a senior as he did either of the previous two years. To me the difference was playing in a much more aggressive offense.

Seriously? Hunt is a redshirt sophomore and it is his third career start, there is going to be hiccups. McD has not put him in the greatest situations either. We have a great running team, we need to run the ball to set up the pass. Unfortunately, we are passing to set up the run. There is not a ton of experience at the position, its going to take time.
Hunt isn't the long term answer. He has Chad Pennington's arm with Perry Patterson's accuracy. If he had better timing he could maybe make it work but as the season progresses and more game tape comes out on his tendencies he is going to get picked more often.

Hunt seems completely 'unprotected' by the play calling and the depth of the playbook. I'm guessing that if he'd started the season, he'd have been brought along more slowly - with easier early throws that would have built his confidence - with a slow expansion into a wider playbook. This is exactly what Marrone did with Nassib until he really owned it all in his Sr. year.

I think how this season has unfolded has put Hunt into an unenviable situation. Everyone thought he was the 2nd coming after beating up Wagner and Tulane - and so we went into Clemson thinking the kid could own the whole playbook. It was fools gold, but in some ways we had nothing to lose by trying, except it might have hurt Hunt's progression as a QB. They did not seem to dial in back vs. NCSt. until the 2nd half. Some of the throws he was being asked to make were optimistic at best in the 1st half.

Hopefully we've learned our lesson, and now reduce the offense to match his skill set and build everything around the run game - at least for now. Give him a game plan he can be successful with and then build from there.

I don't think the throws designed for Hunt were tough throws. They just appear to be tough throws because our WR's struggle to get separation.

This WR core really, really struggles to get open. I think if you had the exact same playcalls, but with Lemon and Sales, people would be complaining the playbook isn't being opened up.

Really, most of our passes are from the 0-5 yards from scrimmage. It is hard as a first year starting QB to fit a 15 yard pass in a NFL window. I just don't know what about the gameplan would be changed to put him in a better place to be successful unless it involved a change at WR.

Every defense the rest of the way *should* be stacking the box with 8 guys and blitzing all game. Why not?

Our strength is quite obviously running. Why should they be fearful of man coverage on the outside? Do our wideouts scare anyone? No.

The players who are going to be hindered most by our lack of passing game are PTG and Jerome.
