While hating the term "small ball". I think that tactical base ball should be used when its need is to score one or two runs for the tie or the lead. I know the Yankees proclivity for hitting home-runs but you can't always depend on that long ball. A man on second and no outs should be an automatic run nearly every time.Use an out to move the man to third and let the next batter get his bat on the ball At that point even a drag bunt will get the runner in for that run If the runner on second is a slow-mo pinch runner him with an OFer that can play the field. That runner on 2nd base isn't always going to be speed challenged player but thats really irrelevant to getting him home.
