I was thinking more about this
i think Red should basically stop working from his "ideal vision"...and try to create it with the peices he has
i think he has a vision of how he wants the team to play that the players simply cannot do...he needs to let go of whatever ideal he has in his mind and get real
he needs to be pragmatic and work with what he has...and go from there
bascially i think what he is doing is ...start from his blueprint...then mix and match players to fit that (but inevitably fall short bc the roster has holes)
instead...i think he needs to find the best mix of players and make a strategy from there
needs to accept that there might be some disadvantages...i.e. maybe not many assists, maybe too many turnovers, maybe not enough rebounds etc etc...maybe no ballhandler
you dont need to win stat categories...you need to win the game
this might all seem obvious what im saying but
i think hes holding on too tightly too some preconceived notions about what he "needs" from the team i.e. stats and roles ...and filtering everything he s doing through that lens...
instead of simply focusing on WINNING
i think hes getting lost in the stats and analytical aspect
for example, JB often had teams that didnt rebound well didnt shoot free throws well didnt gt many assists had centers that could not dribble or pass or score...but he had long teams that got a lof steals and blocks...he had dynamic wings that could do everything and shoot 3s etc...he took his tradeoffs and made it work somehow...he gave up some things that most people think you need to win and won anyway
i think red needs to get creative and forget about doing it "the right way" or according to his "plan" or "style of play" and just find a way to maximize winning
i think he is trying to do that somewhat..thats why he put cuffe in last game and played taylor a lot too...i think red really struggles to connect which aspects of the game and his teams play truly do impact winning and which ones dont, basically. which is why hes getting so much heat from fans...its absoultely brutal right now...gott be hard to hold the line.
if i had to rank the players on the team in terms of sheer competitiveness
i would go:
1. cuffe / taylor/moore
2. JJ/Eddie/davis
3. freeman/petar/westry
4. carlos/bell/mcleod
and if I had to (roughly) rank the players in terms of sheer talent
1. freeman
2. jj
3. eddie
4. moore
5. bell
6. davis
7. taylor
8. cuffe
9. westry (current form...otherwise much higher)
10. petar
11. carlos
12. naheem
anyways I think he just needs to focus on these two lists...who is talented ?? and who is competitive???
i think he tried in the wake game to go with the lunchpail lineup and t almost worked, if not for the horrific start and absoulte faliure to make adjustments in the 2nd half...
get freeman shots!!! get eddie postups!! get open 3s for bell, moore, etc...keep it simple
the talented players need to be the ones taking the shots. period.
and the more competitive players need to be out there as much as possible, as well.
the adjustments he makes need to be relevant to the game itself not his vision for what the team should or shouldnt be etc...exploit matchups and play the team you are playing not your vision of what the team should or shouldnt be.
lastly with a "deep" roster of middling players...why not go with pressure defense...and press??? get these guys in and out of the game and make it hectic? something to try...and this is what im getting at...throw the roles and "proper" way of playing out the window...what do you have to lose at this point?
