If I were the AD

I really don't want to fall for fool's gold again. If Scott has to be told, he isn't the guy IMO. Both LSU and Clemson overlooked us and doesn't prove much. Just want to move in.

LSU may have some but Clemson didn't overlook us at all. They tried everything and went balls to the wall. They certainly didn't play vanilla and their QB had over 400 yards of offense.,

I am sick and tired of moral victories. Clemson came out flat like the SU hoops team does against Colgate, Cornell, etc. Coyle needs to create a buzz in the community about SU football and giving Shafer an extension will do just the opposite.

You don't have to be mad that SU played a great game. Clemson in no way came out flat. Hell, they threw a bomb on play 1.

I have been on the side of making a change but I know it's BS to trash the staff when things go wrong but when they coach the kids up against elite teams like Clemson and LSU the staff gets no credit because those teams overlooked us. Be fair. I still think, sadly, that a change should be made but give the staff credit today.

I honestly think Coyle would be a worse hire than Gross if he kept Shafer, and given what I know about Gross from the inside, that says A LOT.

So not only are posters better coaches, they're better ADs? What's next? If Coyle doesn't can Shafer then Severud is an idiot for keeping Coyle?

My god coyle must run the most loose lipped ad's office in the country. Every shafer hater has heard the decision has been made and all these feelers are out. Unless one of you guys has a picture With coyle at dinner, I'm taking most of all this as rumors.

To me it comes down to what are we? I prefer a guy who can win 8-10 games vs the guy who had to b restrained from a line judge. That's woody Hayes year 30 type stuff.

I also come down to the point of has Coyle seen enough to bank on this guy for another 2-3 years. If u keep u extend. I have no idea what the answer is but this is the only real decision in front of him w Hopkins in place already on hoops.

Has nothing to do with that at all. Impossible to be stealthy in any Industry with agents.

I have to trust Coyle has an idea of which way he his going by now. What more can he learn in the final two games? Yes, finishing off the season with two wins( , and playing the #1 team in the country tough) is definitely preferable to tanking those games, but I would imagine the larger body of work is far more useful in the decision making process. I refuse to believe he has a list of names/numbers scrawled onto his desktop calendar, but will not make use of them if we finish 5-7. At this point he HAS to know.

I really don't think that is it. The feedback is not coming from fans, but from the marketplace. Now, that is not dispositive, but it is not a rumor.

This. McDonough questioning our coach on national TV, etc.

I want HCSS to work out so bad. I'm not sure why anymore, but I want him to be the guy to bring us back to life
You want HCSS to work out because HCSS brings the intangibles that separate the base (football only) from the elite in human terms. If only his football acumen would catch up he would become a legend.

I think HCSS will improve his game day abilities, the question is whether Syracuse can wait that long. There are many good coaches on this staff but they have not yet fully developed into their positions at this level. This is a case where Syracuse either lets them all develop or brings in more experience. That is Coyle's problem. The coaches can get kids up for big games and these kids can play - they beat Clemson in the last 58 minutes of the game!

All the coaches we have played stated we are the right path with HCSS. I've heard other announcers saying he has the team going in the right direction. Even Kirk Herbstreit said we where headed in the right direction with HCSS. BUT McDonugh questioned HCSS and it gives the #fireshafer gropu another drum to beat over and over and over and over.

Has McDonough ever coached or played a down of football? I forgot that watching and commenting during a broadcast is a different skillset.

I will gladly debate you here. Any time. When you are the CEO of the football team you are accountable.

The CEO doesn't sign the checks.

Other teams in the Northeast, nationally even, passed us by while we were standing still.

Boy, am I glad that not only is the OP not the AD but none of the posters on this board are the AD either.

Thank Goodness!

The program did go underfunded absolutely true.

To think P had zero accountability or blood on his hands for how HIS teams performed is crazy.

I get you both grew up in CT, but goodness, objectively, he was captaining the helm of the decline. To think we got schooled by Temple because we had no facilities is insane to think.
