Illinois making a change at OC

I think he was actually on to something there. Why not keep going back to something that's working. Conventional thinking says you can't run the play 5x in a row but if it works why not?

I've often wondered why coaches don't keep going back to the same plays in a game that clearly work. It's infuriating to see a play work great and then not see it again the rest of the game or maybe not see it again for 3 or 4 weeks. weird.
Bc did it and put up 60 on us with that same damn run play

I will feel bad for TD if things go sideways at IL. Hoping he gets a fair shot and then whatever happens, happens.
I don't see why he wouldn't get a fair shot. Maybe it won't be the absolute perfect ideal situation for him to succeed, but, if he shows he's the best guy, he'll play.

When Dino was first hired I think I remember it being reported that going back to high school Dungey had a new offensive coordinator every year for something like 5 years in a row. He credited it with helping him learn to be adaptable.

Didn’t UConn do that against us in 2011? We had a nice lead and I vaguely remember them running the same play over and over and we couldn’t do anything to stop it.

I’m in agreement with you. I would expect TD to get a fair shot. My point was he picked that school based on how it fit his skill set presumably. A new OC could take things an entirely different direction as you know. Who
Knows, in this day and age a new OC could even bring his own QB with him.

There’s some chatter that the new OC was bringing a QB with him. Now THAT’s when it’ll get interesting!

The new OC also runs a heavy RPO offense…
The starting QB ran for over 500 yards last season and is coming back. If he goes to Illinois, wow. Not good.

I would be supportive of allowing players affected by a coaching change or scheme change to transfer again, with immediate eligibility, to prevent situations like this.

This is on the Illinois HC. He shouldn’t be recruiting pocket only QBs like Tommy when he knew he was changing his OC and his scheme.

Also Matt Mattox, an OL coach very familiar with the Babers offense, was the OL coach/run game coordinator at UTSA. I would expect him and much of the UTSA offensive staff to come along with their OC.

Has TD officially enrolled?

If so he can still change schools if I’m not mistaken. Which would be best case scenario from him if the new OC is bringing a QB with him

Artur Sitkowsky, late of Rutgers, started against us this past season.

22/45 221 yards 1 TD 1 INT longest 33 yards 3 sacks 7 rushes, 2 net yards

Lewis is still looking for a QB. That offense is made for TD.

Kksh

I always thought this should happen for players who commit out of HS to a coach who then leaves a week later. If a coach can just leave at anytime under contract the players should be able to too.

So TD is locked in at Illinois or can he leave and join another team with no penalty?

I would have bet money that TD would end up with the Tall Man. maybe he still will. I am sure his dad was really pushing him to stay in the Power 5.

Kent is at the top of the MAC power ratings, he could put up huge stats there, could get a shot at the league.

Was he Kent St. In contact before he chose Illinois?

Honestly the Patriots for years ran a lot of the same plays over and over again and no one could stop them. As a Bills fan it was very frustrating.

Does this counter the leaving midseason argument for players? Might be better to wait till after the season and coaches shuffling around

If he hasn't enrolled at Illinois, I think he can leave.

I think I read someplace that you aren’t a member of your new team until you’ve attended a class.

Agree with your last sentence. I'm sure there was some ego involved.
