IPF

Nobody said fully funded. The Melo Center had more than enough up front donations to assure SU to start and that more would come in. I'm not saying every athletic project is like this but many will get started when the donations reach 50%. Then they'll usually accept the risk on the rest. In the end, I'm not sure SU put a penny into the Melo Center. Maybe they bought the basketballs there.

I just want to know what % of the $17 has been raised? With the amount of money that is on the table to be made with CFB I would just assume if it was close to the 50% then it would be worth it to take a small chance on an even bigger investment. Obviously the on field product needs to be improved, and this would be a monster step towards that. Better recruits, means better records, then better bowls, and more season tickets sold.

That's a catch 22? U can't get a good product on the field without getting good recruits and it will be awful hard to get good recruits without solid facilities? I know we'll never be Oregon but when Northern Illinois, UCF (MAC & AAC) teams have them(IPF) and can afford them were in for an uphill battle...

Here's how NIU did it as one example of your list.

No idea really. I don't think they have any naming rights pledged yet.

I know there were several large donations, but without Melo's 3 million, it wouldn't have been buildt.

Don't expect it to start going up soon. SU has had change of heart. They will not start the building until they have a percentage of the donations in place. SU is not going to back the funding. Ultimately
the new chancellor will have to make the call.
Shocker!or not.

- the reason the Olympic sports get a lot of funding is that DG gets a bonus based on the Director's Cup standing. Sports that would get SU the most points in those contests get generous funding- especially relative to other schools in their respective sport(s)

So they didn't think through the consequences of the contract he was given, and he's guilty of performing to the incentives. That is great.

I am sure the athletic dept getting stuck with a larger portion of the Big East exit fee didn't help matters. More BS

Thanks for the info but I wonder why we don't have a dedicated website like that? We have no idea where any of this stands? I don't mind donating and buying extra tix for boys club etc but it is frustrating to not see progress or at least know where we stand? I think SU would be better served if they utilized a website/graph to track where we are and how much further we needed to go? I think people would be more willing to donate and spread the word?

send it along to jason poles to look at. I like it.

Daryl Gross has been a joke. I look forward to a new blood at the top I think that it gives the university a chance to hire an AD that's competent and actually cares

THAT is the $64,000 question. NO reason why we shouldn't.

I'm wondering what all the donors are thinking now that their money isn't going to what they thought it was. I have a feeling that many of them were primed waiting to give more once things got moving especially when 2014 rolled around and they saw progress and commitment.

(Edit: Bees Clarified much of the donations have Earmarks specifically for the IPF. I still believe there is more money coming with commitment to construction)

And this is the type of stuff that separates us from the big boys. It's not like football and basketball didnt just earn us a huge influx of ACC money or anything...
What separates us is the lame ass crowd that was in the dome today. What the hell good is an ipf with a half empty building with 20percent of the idiots leaving a 1 point game with 4 minutes left?

Since the money was earmarked for the IPF, I don't think it will be out towards something else. It will go towards the IPF, it's just a matter of when.

The current lack of leadership up on the hill is simply stunning. With no clear leadership, nothing is getting done because people are afraid for their jobs hence the shutdown of the IPF.

I also hear the doctor is leaving soon. Anyway does the new Chancellor even know what a football looks like?

Gotcha thanks for clarifying. Just due diligence does the OP have a good source for this concern about the IPF not moving forward? Or are we getting fired up over whispers. Not a whole lot of construction happens (especially in very cold weather when concrete is required for foundations) in winter and based on the view out the window its winter.

And what do you suggest we do to correct that?

Maybe don't suck for a decade..
Maybe don't start every year 0-2.
Maybe don't get your a$$ kicked in every time you have a chance for a program changing win.
Maybe have your school step up and honor their commitment to the IPF which is a necessary arms race if we want to stop sucking.

You expect people to support a program that they're convinced their own school doesn't care about?Keep dreaming.Maybe if they put forth a fraction of the effort trying to change that perception as they did driving their fans away when they had them, things MIGHT start to change. These issues are 100% on SU.BTW,I didn't notice many people leaving until after we failed on the 4th down try.Maybe I was too focused on the field.

it's incredible to me that SU can't raise $13 million for this project. Compared to what other schools spend it seems like drop in the bucket.

Eh, Syracuse successfully burned through every single ounce of community goodwill around the football program by telling the fans to get a life, then proceeding to suck at football for a decade. If they want to win fans back, they need to change the paradigm that the community believes - which is that the university doesn't care about football success. Stalling on building an IPF is just one additional reason to believe the existing paradigm.

The university took money from the football program back when it was in the black. Now their just going to take the ACC money for non-athletic purposes. The university is always just looking for a tit to suckle on. If its clear the university doesn't care about football success, why should the community come out to support a lousy product? (And always having to hope we somehow scrape together 6 wins to go to a crappy bowl is a lousy product, it's like defining basketball success as just barely making the NIT 3 out of 4 years and sitting at home in year 4).

Does anyone know if this IPF will help the O-Line not jump offsides or stop players from making other dumb penalties like hitting somebody out of bounds?

Like I said last week, I haven't even seen the job out for bid by the CM in charge, it's really not that far along, maybe spring they will break ground .

As far as donations, it's such a cluster up there I am not surprised. I searched this summer for someone to answer a few questions about a donation and orange club type stuff, never got a response so I just said it. The university doesn't care about trying to find 4-500, 5-10k donations, they are out looking for the big ones and failing on every level. I understand the need for large donors but you have to cater to the season ticket holder as well, small and midsize donor too.

Don't get me wrong, they will take anyone's money but they ain't going to work that hard to find it or to keep the donations coming in, it's a freaking joke. Happy to just keep my seasons and nothing more

Actually SU is waiting for it to be a work study for students so they can get it done cheaper. It'll be a May through August job.
