Is It Settled?

Hunt took on the hardest part of the schedule. With McDonald as OC, who everyone thought was terrible. Is that his fault? Wilson can throw hard, but that doesn't make him a good QB. He looked absolutely awful. AJ turns the ball over too often. Kimble at least knew when to tuck and run and made some nice plays. We saw what Hunt could do last year with a pretty similar offense and this year had an even better defense. The injuries to the OL will screw any QB -- same with the WRs. But we saw what Hunt could do as a first-year starter, and anyone who wouldn't take that kind of performance right now is insane.
Hunt took the hardest part of the schedule? AJ got FSU and Clemson on the road with a new OC in part b/c Hunt helped get the old one fired and a decimated line. Kind of makes it tough to compare even though they all have their shortcomings.

Off of what I saw this year, I'll be surprised if Hunt is our QB next year. Long was clearly better. I think Edouard will be better than Long. Wilson has the best arm . He just has to get connected with his teammates. The only guy I'd rate Hunt above would be Kimble. They are similar but Hunt is bigger, stronger and more experienced. All can play at this level, though.

Big knock for me on Long is his strength, he is turnover prone at this point in his developement wish we could have red shirted him.
Hard to say if Edouard is better than anyone at this point, but I certainly wish he would have been here to evaluate and prepare for future. He might have been the first guy up to step in ahead of Long.
We certainly could use someone better than we currently have available.

Hunt had ND, Lville, MD... Long looked okay vs. FSU, who had nothing on him. Okay vs. WF. Terrible vs. Clemson and NCSU... It's hard to judge. I'll take Hunt looking mediocre vs. good competition against Long looking mediocre vs. worse competition AND having a seemingly competent OC.

How does someone look terrible while throwing for over 300 yards and 33% of our touchdown passes for the entire year? We only have 6 TDs through the air and Hunt only accounted for one of those. I'm sure he could do better (particularly with the TOs), but AJ was not "terrible" in the NC St game.

I'm not sure FSU is the best example. Their defense is pretty poor for a top team. Clemson is fantastic on defense though, but I'm not sure AJ proved anything against them.

I have only seen one QB put Cuse on his shoulders to win games against a peer in the past two years, and that QB was Hunt. Until another QB can prove he can do that, I think I'll give Hunt that tip of the cap going into 2015.

Also, I'm not sure Hunt got the old OC fired, GMac2 was in over his head as an OC. He wouldn't have lasted at many schools through the season no matter who is QB was.

I found Kimble's performance fairly encouraging. Seemed like there was something there worth developing.

So not being terrible is the gold standard, look neither QB is great but Long turns the ball way to much and is simply not big or strong enough to succeed presently, and should in a perfect world have been red shirted.
Hunt was our best option, not perfect option. We would probably have won two more games with Hunt as QB at this point but that did not happen, so all speculation.
I do know that Long could not hold on to the ball, simply lacked strength to play at this level. I have hopes that he will get stronger and bigger, because he does appear to be intelligent and a leader.

Strange, I though Kimble had one of the worst arms I've seen from a Syracuse QB and his only redeeming factor was that he was above average with his feet.

Just wondering, what did you like about his game today?

I don't even care about Long. He has potential but don't think he's far away better than any of the others. My issue is with the original point that somehow Hunt is clearly the best of the four. To paraphrase Brian Urlacher when asked about playing Tebow, "for a QB, (Hunt) is a good RB." He cannot throw the ball. Which is such an indictment of our QB situation because you can make an argument for Hunt as the #1, but he still cannot pass for stuff. That's how bad we are at the position right now.

So we should play whom, some imaginary QB we do not have, Hunt was and is the best we have when he is healthy. Maybe you are in an alternate reality where you can play that which is not there.

Obviously liked his feet, although not much wiggle.

His first completion on the out pass led me to say he's throwing a pick six today, real floater.

But then I thought he started showing more zip. Overthrew a couple long ones but they were really close. I know that doesn't mean much, but for a 4th string freshman QB.,,

Hunt took on the hardest part of the schedule.

No he didn't. This is just a false statement. Hunt didn't play FSU or Clemson. Hunt got Nova, Central Michigan with some other middle of the pack squads

Any qb must bear some responsibility if their OC gets canned mid-season. I never said Hunt was THE cause, but his inability to pass limits any offense you can run around him. Secondly, Long held his own against FSU and was nearly swallowed alive by Clemson- never said he proved anything great against those schools, just disputing the statement that Hunt took on the toughest part of the schedule. After taking a sick day against 'Nova Hunt got Central Michigan before Maryland, ND, and Louisville. I'd say getting FSU and Clemson on the road trumps ND at a neutral site and a depleted Louisville at home.

I don't know what this means but I def give you credit for making me do a double take when scrolling down.

i also did a double take at it and still have no idea what it means.

AJ Long. Clearly the most potential. Clearly the best for the passing game.
Potential is fun. Winning is funnererer. Gimme Hunt any day.

There is no better QB on the roster than Hunt. Felt like 90% of the board was ready to get rid of him. Which is why no one here is a Division I coach.
And this fact is not a good thing for SU football.

hunt is t good and it's not odd who the best QB is. It's by far AJ Long. Hunt is extremely inaccurate in his 4th year in the program.

It's:

1. AJ/Hunt
2. Alin (if he shows)
3. Kimble
4. Wilson

Like it's so much fun watching Hunt throw 10 yard passes 6 feet over the head of open receivers. Teams that have no passing game don't win much.
