Is the proverbial shoe about to drop on college basketball royalty?

I think Jb is clean as well. I think it might come down to two things. One, agents who work with a school to direct players to that school and then to become clients and two, agents who don't care where the kid goes to school and just want him to be their client when they leave to go pro. I would say we might fall in to the last category.
I don't disagree with this, but kids posting about all the "love" they're getting from one school or another. Hint: it's not just supportive text messages and phone calls. There's a reason that SU typically bails out of a recruitment when certain other schools get involved, but like has been posted earlier, it's not just because those kids are taking payments while the ones we continue to recruit don't. They probably just don't have the same salary cap.

I don't want to go into this with orange blinders on. There are a lot of fans of basketball factories who are saying the exact same thing ("Oh my, we certainly don't pay players to come here and be part of our 10th consecutive top-10 class! TO my fainting couch!"). This rot is pervasive and the ones who will survive are the ones with the best firewalls in place demonstrating that "no it wasn't us, we had no idea this was going on."

C-Mac. He came to SU having all but officially declared it was only going to be one year.
Gotcha. Never knew his nickname was hammer and I wasn't surprised to see him leave after playing half the season due to everyone saying he was a one and done.

I meant Weaver. Murphy played at Notre Dame.

I just can’t see Jim Boeheim paying Paul Harris. It’s what Dasher said likely an agent around the program guides players and then becomes their pro agent.

Let's make some assumptions here. If this is as widespread as some are alluding to and there is payola going on, head coaches have to be on the chopping block. People can say all they want that Boeheim has no knowledge or Calapari has no knowledge or Coach X or Y has no knowledge, but someone connected to their program has first hand knowledge. And, these head coaches might not be directly related by paying the money out of their own pocket but they are turning a blind eye to an illegal situation.

So again, if it's 50 schools working independently using dirty recruiting tactics, who is responsible. Is it the Assistant Coaches that work for the Head Coach? Is it a booster who wants to see his school get these top recruits? Is it an agent who wants to benefit on the back end of the deal? Is it a sneaker company who can benefit by that player wearing their sneaker or their school winning the NC?

Sneaker companies are an easy blame as they are the ones that are already paying coaches and schools millions of dollar legally to be their sponsor. So it's easy to see it's not much of a reach to help their coaches and schools a bit but now funneling money to their recruits. I personally think that any coach or any school that is receiving sneaker money is playing with fire. It's been a bad situation for a long time and now it's about to self combust.

I wouldn't get too worked up. Might we get some dirt thrown on us, sure. But others will get it a lot worse and at the end of the day college hoop will be better off for it and we just might have a shot at getting top 10 players again.
This.

Is it likely some kids who played for us got money? Would not be surprised.

From us? No.

As a condition of coming here? No

As a reason to come here? No

Did our coaches take money to direct kids to a certain agent? No.

These agents have their hooks in these kids so early...and they are the best players. Hoops it's easy to see who the great ones are very early.

Was the NCAA going to declare Anthony Davis ineligible? Nerlens Noel?

It's in their best interest to turn a blind eye.

Think about this: If an agent fronts your family $ for whatever reason...there's not only an obligation to sign with him, but to do it as soon as possible.

I've alluded to this before, but agents can control a draft. Agent A has 24 clients in the NBA -- Including some good ones about to be free agents. Let's say the same agent has a kid in that year's draft.

If an NBA wants access to the FA, they might have to draft the agents player as a condition.

It's a dirty dirty game.

Great post -- and hopefully that will assuage some of the nervousness.

Hmm. That might explain why NBA teams that aren't viewed as great free agent destinations may seem to draft better and develop international players more effectively.

Hmm.

If we are in any trouble it will come from Troy Murphy, Rob Murphy, Mike Hopkins recruiting players IMO.

I do believe Jim Boeheim is totally clean. He wouldn’t pay kids hundreds of thousands of dollars to play at Syracuse. I laugh at the thought JB paying Paul Harris to come to SU.

I think assistants paying kids are where it goes down. Calipari will have a fall guy.
Somewhere I recently read JB pays his assistants an extra amount (out of his Nike contract?) so they have less incentive to do something stupid. I probably read that on here so please disregard. ;)

We know how the NCAA loves us. If there is a hint of shenanigans here they will look to screw us over.

Only worries are with CJ McCullough, possible concern with Rak

Edit. Taurean Thompson's recruitment was weird. Wouldn't be surprised if his family is caught up in the shenanigans

I hope they let it slide if it's Taurean since we had to watch him "play defense" for a season and deal with his mom. We've been punished enough.

So what if the players paid taxes on their illegal benefits?

Forgive me but I'm drawing a blank on who hammer is?

We have had at least 4 players sign with Miller's agency. Not unreasonable to assume that most everyone signing with Miller was once paid by Miller.

So how many schools going to self impose for this year's tournament? How is this better/worse than what we got dinged for after a 10 year NCAA investigation? Are we out of the clear yet? I feel like if these guys are going down, others will be dragged down
