It’s Portal time!

There are D1 walk ons going into the portal too. Some of the higher D1 walk ons can start or be a legitimate bench player at a lower D1 school too.
Is this really true? Do D1 programs actually have better walkons?

I mean unless this is musical chairs and they took a chair away everyone should theoretically have a place to go. The number of portal entrants should equal the number of spots In total no?

I think it's quite a bit more complicated.

A new HS commit could take away an open slot previously vacated by a departing transfer.

Not all slots are interchangeable. For example, if JG3 enters the portal he would be looking at a place a SG slot for two years. While if CDB enters the portal he will be looking for a one year slot at the 5. JG3 will not be looking for a spot where after next year they are bringing in 3 new SG recruits unless he feels he can go pro after year 3. In that sense JG3's spot and CDB's spot are not straight up 1 for 1 trades. If 500 kids got out of their chairs you may have 100 kids with no where to go, not because there are no slot available but because the slots are not compatible, or considered worse slots then the ones they vacated. I think it can get messy.

I'm just gonna assume he will transfer since CuseRunner predicted today that he is staying. Basically everything that poster says happens in reverse of what he expects/assumes/predicts.
This is like the guy I used to work with that had the worst ideas and was always wrong.

If you had no idea what to do, you could talk to him, and then eliminate whatever he suggested knowing that his guidance pointed true south.

That's a perfect contrarian indicator.

Good to have around, just so you always know exactly what not to do.

Kinda like CR here.

Fl with its 4th transfer addition...gotta be tough for any leftover 21 recruits that were waiting on being recruited/offered.

I disagree with this. There are the same number of spots as always and the same number of players as always (except the seniors who stay, which wont be many, and they dont take a scholly spot away).

Anybody who is D1 caliber is going to find a spot someplace unless teams choose to carry fewer scholarship players than normal, which I think is very unlikely.

Does that mean everybody will be happy with where they land? No. But seeing as how there is going to be something close to a third of all college basketball players transferring, its very obvious a lot (maybe even most) players weren't happy anyway.

That’s how I saw it too
