The Old Scout, Arnie Burdick was good friends with my uncle who was a photographer at the Herald-Journal where Arnie Burdick worked as a sports reporter. I used to walk to my uncle's house in Syracuse when The Old Scout was there to visit him. In my opinion, The Old Scout was head and shoulders above any sports reporter at that time and in this modern-day. The way he reported SU games, in stories, was epic. And when you listened to his stories in person they were mesmerizing.
He was HOF

I love SU probably more than I should and its why i go off the rails and make an arse out of myself half the time on this board. As a kid i used to wait for the paper to arrive. Couldn't wait to read about basketball. Football weekends were the best. The Old Scout, cutting the line ups out and going to the game with my dad. Rain or shine we would always get a loaf from Columbus and hit the Varsity. If I ever got lost my dad told me to simply " Meet at Lincoln" . Roy's Runts, Shagging balls for Bens teams, The Pstate games, Watching the academies enter Arch, Being in awe of UCLA when they came to town sitting there wondering what California was like, Listening to Joel, Up the invisible ladder on radio and of course the great moments with The Lee Brothers, Sweet D and his magical pre game, The Miami loss when Chris came up short, The Owens craziness, Destroying Pstate, Manley is officially closed and most recently some of Jims great runs in the tournament. All pure magic. Today I want that back. Want SU to be great again as I know we can. It makes me sick to see the program in this position and even sadder because of his kids. I hope that somehow Jim catches lighting in a bottle and turns it around. Maybe a late season run, and we pull of a miracle. I don't know but I do know I hate where we currently are.
Another guy on the Hill is fond of saying " belief without evidence," is faith, or put another way belief in the human spirit. The season is about half over and JB always preaches improvement each game, getting better. He used this method in getting far into the Tournament twice in recent years... I think. (My memory is not as good as it used to be.)

I prefer to be optimistic looking to the future, although, probably crushed in the next game at Duke. I still like watching the games, win or lose. Have all my life.

Considering we can’t beat the Big East teams we schedule, I’d say it wouldn’t make a difference.
Don't schedule BigEast teams. Everyone involve in the conference still has an axe yo grind with Syracuse for leaving and going to the ACC. They are very jealous of Syracuse getting the big revenue and will do anything they van to tear SU down. Leave the BigEast in the past where it belongs.

I'd rather have stayed in the BE wnere our recruiting was a blessing and there is no reason why it would have changed. Even if football went independent it could not have been worse than it is and it is not going to be better next year. Being the Beast of the East was worth more than ACC cash. If we stay in the ACC we will become a basketball has been regardless of coaching. We are now the Least of the SE.
As to UCon and GT, they have better talent than us. Benny is no Mohammed. Even Prov. and SH are more talented.

Syracuse should play a national OOC level schedule when it plays major competition. Gonzaga, USC/UCLA, Texas, Ok State, FLA, teams like that instead of the old BigEast teams. Oats owes Cuse a game after he he beat them in the dome with UB, a 2 game series with Alabama would be great.

An athletic floor leader at the top of the zone and athletic wings are critical for the zone to have success.

Jim will never play Oats again and its why he wont be our next coach.

If we go outside the Cuse family for our next coach, I like the following current head coaches: Eric Musselman, Todd Golden, Bryce Drew.

To me Todd Golden would be a home run hire. He worked at Columbia University and has USF playing at a very high level. They were competitive with Gonzaga last night. Surround him with some East Coast assistants with strong AAU ties and we could build a dynamic team in the near future.

That's fine, there are other teams. My point is, Syracuse built the BigEast and helped all those teams get recognition and now when SU plays them, it always like they're a jilted ex and SU owes them something. Baylor, they would probably like a series with the Orange, stop doing favors for the BigEast teams.

This is maddening. If we were in the BE now we would be even more screwed.
The BE is better than the ACC this year.

Our recruiting is why we are where we are.
We play 50% of ACC games where we played BE as those ars home games.
We still play Georgetown every year.
We still play at Pitt every year.
We play at BC every year.
We still play Louisville every year.

We play FSU instead of USF in the same area.
We play Miami who was a BE team and that is a good area for SU fans.

If you can’t get the 1980s BE has been long dead I can’t help you.
The ACC isn’t why we are struggling its the HC.

If you think Georgetown has more talent us then the blame is on the HC.

Arnie was great. Saw him a few times over the years in Sea Pines, as we had mutual friends living there. Fun fact: He was the Starter for The Heritage Classic for years.

But why should that matter, really? So he insulted Coach K. Big whoop. It had zero to do with SU. It was only Boeheim who made it into a story. Unless I'm missing something here ...

How are we getting these other 3 guys? They're all in the portal?

Will have to wait until the season is over to see who ends up in the portal. I could definitely see Ware and Ballard in the portal as they play sparingly at their respective schools. Adams-Woods is a starter at Cincinnati and averages about eight ppg so he is the least likely to be in the portal, but in today’s cbb, anything is possible.

This team might be worse than our current team. At least our current team can score. None of these guys are proven scorers outside of JG3 and Jesse.

In my opinion, this year‘s team is the worst I have seen in the last 40 years of watching Cuse hoops. No athleticism, the zone at the wings and up top are terrible, rebounding is subpar and there are no reliable bench options for JB to go to.

We agree that recruiting is the problem. Why did recruiting become a problem when we joined the ACC? I don't believe in coincidences. We are out-of-place, a NE team in a southern conference.
