Why is he releasing a statement before SU?? This is frustrating.

good call. No doubt he'll be "coached" on what to say from SU and their PR firm- I'm sure we'll have one from Cantor as well.

JB has nothing to apologize for. he stuck up for his best friend. we all would have done the same.

This goes way beyond "sticking up for his best friend." You very much are going to be wrong about how this all plays out.

JB = SU to the general public.

Yes, but JB is NOT the head of the school. This is a -ing academic institution, not a phys ed department.

It may be hard for many to believe but the vast majority of SU grads are not sports fans. They do not want a situation that has reflected poorly on the University on a national basis to be hndled by the basketball coach. The Chancellor should be the one making ALL statements unless it pertains to changes JB is making to his staff.

If he is announcing Bernie's retirement or dismissal, that's one thing. Beyond that, any personal apologies or back-peddling should happen only after the chancellor has spoken first.

After things have been settled, fine. Now? No.

If JB was fired with the current 'facts' and story, I'd stop watching all syracuse sports.

Syracuse's reputation is more important than its basketball coach. I'll support the Chancellor if JB is let go.

really? in his position as the face of su? he should have been measured with his comments. everyone knows that including su.

I'd rather have JB say nothing than put out a spin-job written by a PR pro. It is both JB's strength, and weakness, that he is very candid when he speaks to the press. Reporters will jump all over him if he puts out a bland piece of spin like the drivel that was attributed to him when SU joined the ACC. If the statement does not seem authentic, then the situation will get much worse.

I agree with you 100%. I was responding to the post that JB has things to answer for, not SU. Unfortunately, SU has to respond and deal with the things JB said.

I'm getting increasingly upset that SU doesn't appear to be issuing a statement before JB does.

He would if he is stepping down.

Not that I think that is what is going to happen. But what would surprise us at this point.

Not saying this is what is going to happen, but Joe Pa announced his retirement, just before the BOT met and announced he was fired..
