JB's Presser after St Johns

So what you are saying is that because SJU had all those easy baskets the team must have quit. That apparently is the only answer that you could come up with, right?

I would imagine that if you are down by 25 with 6 minutes to go it is hard to muster up maximum effort.

At what point in the game did they quit? According to you, that is.

They quit when the lead hit 18 and never came close to challenging to get it lower.

The team played poorly.

I didn't see any evidence that anyone quit.

You're saying they quit, doesn't make it so.
You're not watching very carefully then. We played bad at Wisconsin and lost by 20. We lost by 33 at home to St Johns. There were periods In The second half where we didn't even try to make a stop. Lots of offensive possessions we just did nothing. We lost by 33 to a team that lost to LIU Brooklyn and Delaware state.

Well he couldn't have meant it was one of his better TEAMS because the TEAM really hadn't played together yet. I think he was commenting on the players.

But as we have seen, talented players don't always translate to a good team.

“We’ve got everything, we’ve got depth, we’ve got shooters, and we’ve got size. This is the best team we’ve had in a long time.” Jim Boeheim talking to ESPN’s Jeff Goodman

There's a few issues:

This team was way overrated in the eyes of many, including JB.

JB's scheme has lost its way.
You weren't watching the same game then. St. John's had a stretch where they had back to back to back to back dunks where we just looked disinterested in playing defense. That's effort. Team quit tonight.

SJU always has athletic guys. They were more energized tonight. When you are desperately trying to get back, one of the things that happens is that there are steals that are converted to dunks.

And chucks from Battle and Howard that turned into transition dunks as well.

Here's the difference in effort:

When you miss 5 FTs, grab 4 offensive rebounds, miss 6 shots and go to the line 4 times in one possession and get 2 pts you just stink.

When you go from 12 down to 33 down at home against a team that's 6-7, you quit.

“We wanted to keep the ball out of the high post. We changed our defense a little bit to do that, then we didn’t do it. Once it got in there, that’s when we get hurt. Everybody that’s gotten in there – that’s when we get hurt. We’re not totally set in there, but the guys that are supposed to not get in there get in there and that’s it. That’s what happened."

Is that a scheme problem, or a personnel problem?

I'd say it's a coherence problem -- nothing in this quote makes sense, really. Or, at least, it's not coherent. Which is probably not coincidental -- there is no way to rationally explain what's going on here.

You know, there's nothing wrong or dishonorable about just acknowledging something for what it is. It doesn't mean you're betraying JB or becoming a bad fan or something. The team quit tonight and there's something terribly wrong with the team right now, of which JB is the head coach (i.e., the CEO)

They weren't steals converted into dunks. They were rebounds and runouts leading to dunks, and our players weren't even running back up court. It was plain to see that all five guys on the floor quit.

If you watched the game and saw the game go from
a 9 point game to.a 21 point game in a minute.
Then watched the lack of effort the rest of the game and won't say they quit then JB can never be wrong in your mind.
The players quit. Thompson fouled out on a play where it seemed like he wanted out. Gillon and White stopped getting back on D and the team wasn't interested in rebounding.
They QUIT. The HC is not god.

Obnoxious till the end. Have to respect that about you. Flailing at all the "JB haters" is most certainly going to wear you out tonight.

Hardly. I looked up the definition of "rant" after the GU game.

It perfectly described about 50% of the posts on here after a loss.

Besides. JB is the coach. Hop will be his successor.

We have had a lot of good years. This one won't be one.

For fans a little maturity will be the key to weathering this storm.

At the 0:32 mark, is it me or does it sound like someone is getting angry in the background. "Turn it off"? Not sure.

I'm not sure the whole history with Townie but there's no doubt the mix is brutal and that's on the head coach (whom I love)

I'm not sure this team is as talented as he thought.

The crowd booed the players and they never do that. The booing was related to effort and selfishness on offense after St. John's blew it open.
actually sounded to me like there were plenty of boos already in the 1st half

When you say that Thompson "seemed to want out" you are ascribing something to him that you have no idea about. You are guessing that's true or hoping it's true.

It's really quite slanderous. He made a mistake. He's a freshman. t was a ticky-tacky foul anyway and I was surprised they called it.
