the difference is that our head Coach may be lying for whatever reason he has, Dean isn't lying. He might just be wrong.
No Way What GIF

A word to the wise, and not just for this discussion, but if Dean says it, it doesn't mean it is true. I subscribe to Dean but I have never listened to one webcast.
And if he is just a tad better in coaches eyes than Jimmy or Cole he’ll sit.
Dean Francis broke down the defensive rotations.
I will say I believe Buddy understands that stuff.
I won’t be rude to the other guy but the tape shows it.

Exactly right . Seems like a good dude but I’ll put my trust in Coach Boeheim’s evaluation over a fan with a podcast.

Cuse

I don't need to hear that. Or see it. JB sometimes, and I'll be kind, doesn't tell the truth. As I said, Dean is sometimes just wrong.
You don’t need to see it but the zone was weaker at the top than the wings.
The breakdowns show where most of the mistakes where.
It doesn’t mean that improvement isn’t possible.
I do think Jimmy will be fine in the zone.
The top of the zone was better with one lineup over another. It’s not hard to figure it out.

that, isn't what I am disagreeing with Dean about. That, isn't why i don't bother to listen to him. but I will add, jb could take the same tape and give a different explanation. That is sports.

Same for our HC.
The breakdowns of the zone show where the zone was weak.
There are a lot of theses.

why did Q come up on the two prior ball rotations? I agree when the guy started to step into the shot but every year people complain that the opposite ball side guard is supposed to drop to the foul line area. People used to kill cooney for that not understanding the responsibilities.

Cooney’s defense was elite.
I don’t think his criticism was for defense and if it was then those people were dumb.
Cooney’s problems were offense related.

The zone was elite during Cooney’s time. He got steals and was always active.
Q stepped up to stop the shooter his rotations were good. I mean cmon man. Our defense was better with one lineup over another.
Now the other lineup probably did other things better but it wasn’t defense.

Any update on when he is going to make it official ? I know it's an open secret hes coming.

The funniest thing is when people on here want to insist that only a bunch of glorified gym coaches are capable of recognizing good basketball play. It ain't neurosurgery.

What’s this Dean Francis guys story? Only heard of him after I joined here

I agree with this and I agree with Dasher’s point.

It’s not hard to watch our zone and see know when the defense is on and when it’s not.
Kadary made plays but he was also slow just like Joe at making adjustments. It’s just Kadary’s length would allow to make plays to bail himself out.
I will be fair Kadary made mistakes.
It’s just undisputed he was our best defensive guard though.

Well, while we are living our lives, they are going to seminars and studying the game. So there is that. And not for nothing, because someone becomes a coach doesn't mean that they are dumb and couldn't do anything else. And that is what your bunch of glorified gym teachers implies. Many of us could do what they do if we put in the same effort that they have over the years to learn the game. But we didn't. We went in to our fields.

that’s not what I commented on. I was commenting on what was Joe doing. He may have been doing what he was told. That’s why I also asked why Q came up the two prior rotations but not that one.

and yes, cooney was a very good defender. Busted his butt but also understood the zone like the back of his hand. But also yes, there were many posters that used to scream about him dropping to the foul line.

joe also would make good reads, but was a step slow or a tad short.

is what it is. Gotta hope he improves massively next years because we won’t have the stopper off the bench, Hopefully a full healthy offseason will do him well.

Same logic for playing Jesse. The two of them immediately changed the game with their length/size. It changed our season for the better imo. Too bad they didn’t continue to get more run. Every single time they came in I would say “Hey 2-3 zone! Good to see you again, old pal!”
