JJ / Left Hand Injury

I actually think this is the beginning of the end for Red Autry. If this season goes down the tank and we're 10 wins total he's gonna have to fix this on the fly, try and retain talent (if there is any to retain), convince guys to come play for a dead man walking HC, and recruit top talent. This ain't an easy task.

I hope Wildhack his binder updated as we speak.
Actually this is a blessing in disguise for Red if this season wasn’t going to end up well to begin with, he now has a bonafide excuse that will buy him some more time and mitigating circumstances in his favor.

He needs to be competitive. If we go 12-19 and the dome is a morgue then Wildhack is going to have a mess on his hands. Going to be really difficult to sell tickets to the same coach that's been around for a program that missed the tournament 5 out of 6 seasons. Then there's the fact you need to put a good team together next year after you've been terrible for half a decade. I am afraid it's going to get ugly.

It's a bit early for that type of prediction, but this season certainly just got a lot harder for him, no question about that.

I get where you're coming from and in some regards it helps forcing Red to play Choppa and get another shooter out there. But for us lacking structure, so much was reliant on JJ getting downhill / to the rim. Don't have anyone the roster that can replicate that.
I think Moore is a more talented scorer than JJ, is he ready to be thrusted into the spot?

I wouldn't bet against a guard from the Bronx to show up when his number is called.

We are a deep team. JJ will be missed but between Moore, Carlos, Cuffe and Taylor, there's enough guys to step in and step up. Taylor was a scorer before coming here. Carlos was a leader, distributor and defensive player. It's now time to shake off the cobwebs, the big stage fright and get going. If these guys can hold it down (go at least 500) till Starling comes back, we might be alright.

I think we needed both of them to score though. Who’s the other guard that scores with Moore? If we break 55 points tonight I’ll be shocked.

Not going to get those points from the guard spot, I expect it from the 3, don't know who though.

For Red personally sure, but not for us as a program. He should not get a mulligan if this year doesn’t go well just because of the JJ injury. He already gets a free year next year with Kiyan. I am afraid we just delaying the inevitable

The positives of having 6 guys who are all pretty average along with Donnie and Eddie is one of the 6 go down it shouldn't be a killer.

Exactly what I'm saying. I'm not thinking of this season I'm thinking of the future -- this went from bad season, to a hole Red maybe can't climb out of. Our brand will continue to get beat down. Red's credibility will get beat down worse. If he only wins 10 games and is on the hot seat, it will be a lot harder to get guys like Donnie and Sadiq. Jesse transferring last year, this year's roster construction including the miss on Carlos, and now injury to JJ may have just killed Red's HC career.

I never thought this was going to be Red's sink-or-swim year and I still don't, especially with the 2025 class he's put together.

You can think he doesn't deserve a third year and have plenty of evidence to back it up, but in the real world you have to be abjectly and unanimously bad to not get that much time, even in the portal era. Think Stallings at Pitt, or Payne at Louisville. Throw in the fact that Red is an alum and I don't see it happening.

Some people might not agree but you raise good points. Whatever the deal was with Carlos, now is the time to show that he's more than a nothing. Hopefully Westry also gets a shot and is able to put up good minutes.

If it's not his shooting hand, he might be able to play. If not, next man up. We have seen teams coalesce and regroup with a major player down. Moore has proven that he can contribute, Cuffe and Carlos both have a golden opportunity to show that as veterans they can step in and fill the void. Bell, also must lead as the most senior player on the team. It is a great chance for us to see what this team is made of win or lose. Its all about fight and effort tonight.
When was the last time you played bball

This will just be what people argue in defense of Red. But JJ...just like:

21-22: But Jesse broke his wrist
22-23: But JB too hard on Benny
23-24: But Judah and Quadir bad attitude
24-25: and, but JJ hurt

If our program hasn't been bad, these setbacks wouldn't sentence us to 4 years no tournament. If he wins 10-12, no question it's tournament or bust next year. Question is whether he can get transfers coming off a horrible year and everyone knowing he's on the hot seat.

Have No Fear-
Elder Statesman Chris Bell will employ his formidable Leadership Skills to rally and inspire his team in the face of Adversity, leading them to an Amazing Victory tonight.
Bell's leadership will propel this SU team to excel beyond expectations with the loss of JJ Starling.
