John and Fran need to go

You can't evaluate the football team based solely on this season and ignore last season. Why do you think McCord came here? On the flip side you can't ignore this season either. So by my scorecard he's got an A, and an . Next year will be the tiebreaker.

Don't go there. That is always the last gasp of a failing regime, and it has been asked during the final stages of every failed coach we have had. We are not at that point currently.

Fran is not getting fired. At the same time, there are legitimate questions surrounding the program. This is about more than the loss of Angeli and Fran needs to face and solve it. End of story.

Growing up in suburban Syracuse, I was a diehard SU fan since in the late 50's. As an SU student, I was so excited to root for my Orange as part of the SU community. Unfortunately, my student years coincided with the entire college football world passing Ben by. I sat on cold, wet concrete steps...often in puddles...in the midst of very small crowds. None of my friends went to games with me. Still, I didn't care. I bled Orange.

Yesterday was the first time in my life when I felt totally apathetic after a game. I hated that feeling.

I want Fran to succeed, because if he succeeds, so does SU. I don't care about DART, what "might" happen down the road, excuses about the QB room that Fran himself recruited, etc. The world doesn't want to hear about the labor pains; it just wants to see the baby.

Hoping for the best but expecting the staff to be held accountable for making that happen.
The story with this program has been pretty much the same since the days of McNabb.

We have had a lot of very good players. But we have never had the kind of quality depth that at top notch programs use to compete.

Dino was 6-0 in 2022 and the injuries decimated the team and revealed the lack of quality depth. The same thing happened the following season - a strong start and then the injuries. The COVID season revealed who in the college world had depth and who did not. We did not.

Shafer went to a bowl game his first year and then the QB injuries destroyed any chance he had for success.

Even Marrone had some uneven success. He had a really good season in 2010 and then graduation and injuries resulted in a step back the following season.

My hope is that Fran Brown is building depth with 35 recruits from the last cycle.

So, I am letting the ND game go.

The entire thread is between people who want to fIrE fRaN nOW!!!! And people saying this year wasn’t acceptable but talk of getting rid of Fran is assine. As a result, I have no idea how you thought your comment added anything to the discussion - and it’s why you’re getting pushback.
The thread shouldn't have been started in the first place.

This year wasn't acceptable. The AD should hold Fran accountable for that and tell him to make staff changes. But firing Fran is lunacy.

Yep. I think it was Dino himself that said "often the difference between a good MAC school and a decent P4 school is depth. "The starters on the good MAC school are good, but there is nobody behind them.

Still, Fran put this QB room together. They are his recruits, and the lack of any carbon-based life form capable of playing at this level behind the starter is a major fail for this season. We can only hope that this is the last season where we need to worry about it.

No it is isn't and no we didn't.

With Angeli we were 3-1.

Robinson won 10 games in four years.

The ND team back in the days of Greg Robinson was not the team that it is now.
Right now flailing is a kind word to describe the program. I hope that Steve Angeli recovers completely and turns out to be the second coming of Peyton Manning, but as of now his track record at SU consists of a good quarter and a half against UConn and a half against the worst Clemson team in years. He’s the only quarterback who gets better every game he doesn’t play.
As far as recruiting let’s hope we actually sign them and retain the freshmen now being thrown to the lions. One thing I don’t quite get is why we’re throwing money and attention against high end skill players (e.g. Russell) when our atrocious line play doesn’t let them demonstrate even a small fraction of their skills.

Well said and the point i have been trying to make. The over reactors drive me crazy and i hate to pinpoint specific ages but it has to be the under 30 crowd.

Its this simple. 1 more season to show any fruits of all these labors.
If next year starts badly Wildhack’s performance is going to be scrutinized a lot more closely. He blew up a selection process, on the basis of an unsolicited phone call, to hand the reins to a position coach with no experience as a head coach. Potential hires and their agents pay attention to that. If it turns out to boot that Fran has an expensive buyout that’s beyond malpractice.

This is correct. The way our team has played the last 7 games is unacceptable. Fran should be held accountable for why that happened. No Fran shouldn’t be fired. Yes JW should have his eyes opened now.

There is always going to be growing pains with a first time head coach the only thing that worries me right now is it doesn’t seem he is learning from his mistakes the last 7 games. And the use of the QB position is baffling.

I would advise against holding anything Dino said as wisdom. Dino overhyped the MAC. A good MAC team's 1st team isn’t hanging with a good P4 team 1st team 95 out of 100 times.

I just want my question answered lol. I have had multiple people reply and 0 people answering the question by giving me legit names.

i'm hoping that final scoreboard pic is his wallpaper for the entire offseason. 70-7 . first thing every morning. and last thing every day.
fran had best learn from this epic beat down and never forget why and how it happened.

We played ND 9 times this century, We're 2-7. Consider yourself lucky you saw a winner. Like finding a pot o' gold at the end of the rainbow.

Won the Walt Reyes game in 2003. Won the Art Jones games in 2008.

Coach P: 1-0
Gerg: 1-1
HCSS: 0-1
Dino: 0-4
Fran: 0-1

I'm 2-3 in attended ND games (2003, 2005, 2008, 2018, 2022).

I'd like to get that up to .500 next year. But that's a whole lot to overcome in a year.

I don't have a problem with this thread exisiting. Usefull discussion and a way for us to get yesterday's game behind us. The Title of the thread didn't need to be as negative. But as I've posted here and elsewhere, I have doubts whether to believe what Fran says.

You are correct. We remember Angeli against Clemson. He was rather blah against UCONN for three and a half quarters. Fran needs to go in the portal and find an upgrade not just a backup. He’s already saying we have the best quarterback in the country returning. He may be a salesman to recruits, but I’m not buying it. Both his lines are MAC level at best. His safeties can’t tackle a chair tied to the ground. The only place where this team is better since he arrived is at cornerback. We had better running backs before he got here. His portal QB’s have been very good and he added one good receiver. Everything else is below ACC level.

The guys a first time head coach, your mental if you didn’t think there were going to be some bumps along the road. We had the #1 passing offense before Angeli went down. He whiffed on a qb and it destroyed team morale. I give the guy a couple more seasons, he understands the recipe and will hopefully learn from his mistakes.

You realize UConn football is pretty good this year? They beat Duke and Mensah put up
much worse numbers than Angeli who had 416 yards in that game.

Perhaps I missed someone mentioning Mora who's at UConn? But, I think he would take the SU job in a heartbeat and he has a track record of relative success. Now, he's currently 64, however, he appears to be a young 64. ;) The fact that he has made UConn serviceable and competitive when they have been trying to compete after being left without a chair and all the ensuing $$$ issues that creates, well, is quite impressive IMO.

Not a bad name my only question is how good is his recruiting. We know he can coach guys up though.

This is worse than GROB. We played better w Greg. I act went to ND 08 and we won.
Remind me when GROB won 10 games in a season and had a ranked team again?

This is a bad season, no doubt, but GROB’s best season was 4 wins. Hyperbole isn’t helping anyone right now, and if we can muster something against a bad BC team next week then this will match GROB’s best season.

Now until Fran digs himself out of this ditch, comparisons to Dino seem more reasonable.
