Johntay Cook in the portal

Two things:
1. I don’t think anyone has suggested Gill was asked to leave.
2. I don’t think anyone has called either a bad guy. There’s a difference between a guy being kicked off the team for something and parting ways at the end of the season being better for the overall team in the future. We see 12 Saturdays a year. Coaches see hundreds of days a year.
Good post

I'll add we where really bad in ALOT of spots. Money is going to be spent this off season but I think we have bigger holes then WR room.

I believe every player is evaluated and during last season very few will be overpaid unless you graded out above average. And he certainly did not. He had massive drops when Steve went out then psycho family member began talking publicly. Not a good look, Seems like a nice kid who we gave a chance and I am glad he seems to be on the right track. Definitely next, Gill definitely a bigger loss in my opinion. I believe they are going to spend on multiplicity and that is going to take a strong set of lines. We will see
Pringle got away with robbery then.

How many times do people have to flat out say that he was told to go before people believe it? It's not the QB. It's not $$. Posters with impeccable reputations for sharing what they can have said as much.

Who's going to dis-proove someone saying a player was told to leave? I happen to think some of it is BS spin. People know people that's fine. People say things to. Lots of hearsay. At this point Fran has told two starters to hit the road, yet had them starting all season. Makes a lot of sense (sarcasm). If they were such bad teammates or head cases then they should've been sitting on the bench. Not starting and leading our team to a 3-9 season. It's all BS. Frans not telling starters to leave unless they're making crazy demands. If that's the case then there's the door.

But imo, WRs need a QB and RB is a hard sell playing for Nixon.

Some connect folks do know when players are gien the talk but yes it will be us never really knowing for most.
Have to read the tea leaves sometimes.
Yes starters I doubt are ever given the talk unless it's another Taj.

Seems like every time a guy leaves, someone “heard” they were asked to leave, or they were a bad guy in the locker room or some such story. Maybe, or maybe just sour grapes for program apologists. Or we shouldn’t be recruiting such bad guys in the first place.
If you bring on a kid who’s been at 2 schools in 2 years with issues all along the way and then it doesn’t work out, who’s fault really is it?

It’s already been said that is not the reason.

Oh ok that makes it true then. WRs are lining up to play with Filardi. That's insane. Kids are trying to get to the NFL, not play for the worst offense in college football that has no QB. It's honestly astonishing they held onto the high school WR recruits.

Not that inconceivable, after the season is when some of the hard decisions are made. Don’t need to embarrass them during the season, but don’t want them part of next year’s team, there can be a middle ground. Also they haven’t been replaced yet when the season is going on.

Most understood the situation that SU found itself in and Fran explained the changes they were going to make to avoid this happening again.

Based on the specific posters saying it, yes.
Filardi will not be the QB next year and you know that.

The way people are panicking about Richmond's Angeli joke tells you how skittish and shell-shocked we are as a fan base. I can't say that I blame people, though.

After Angeli went down, it looked like Cook just started going through the motions. I sit in the end zone and I would focus on him running routes, and many times they seemed to have no effort. Did we have the qbs to get it to him? Not really. But that tells me something about his character if he is going to mail it in.

I hesitated to post this because people will take this the wrong way but Angeli entering the portal is not at 0%. While I think it's very unlikely, hes been contacted/back channeled by several schools and multiple schools would love for him to enter. Again I dont see it but its not 0% either.

Well Willis didn’t start all season. He didn’t play the last two games. Fran is very big on team rules. They exist for everyone, including guys who start.

But he also doesn’t burn guys who are leaving. Not everything has to be public or shared on the internet.

You can choose to believe whatever you want.

That's total nonsense.

Steve is held in high regard by a lot of opposing coaches. Wish some of our fans realized it instead of downplaying him. But I was told he resigned his NIL rev share deal a while ago so him leaving is unlikely (which is why I made the joke).

Thats a battle you think would have been won clearly after his injury but some fans will never get it.

Ya again very unlikely but people underestimate the market that would be their if he did jump in.

Fran literally said in multiple press conferences that Willis should get more carries. He openly called out his OC over it. So all this other stuff just makes it even more of a complete cluster than I originally thought it was.

Russell and Merriweather.
Bring in a good 1 or 2 WR from the portal.
We have some great young kids here already.
Gill and Cook are good players but not irreplaceable.
Cook had some real frustrating drops last year.

Young kids aren't necessarily ready for the physicality. We probably need more than you suggest.

To me it's not the loss of Cook in isolation that is the concern. It's the overall net loss of talent from the WR room that is the problem. Let's see who additionally we bring in. Fran is well aware of the current puts and takes. Gotta believe he realizes he needs to add back into the WR room via portal. Let's see what overall team composition is going into Spring.

Yeah, it feels like we've lost a lot of guys in the last couple years who could have grown into bigger roles by now. With the loss of that depth, we are literally starting all over, all over the field.

You plan on us playing in the playoffs next season and suddenly don't because we lost Willis, Gill and Cook? We only know what we lost so far. Soon, we will know what we gained. Plenty of time to worry after that point.

We're not a school who can lose all our best players in their 2nd or 3rd year, and expect them to be replaced by HS kids, and half as many guys from the portal as those who leave, and be a competitive team.

Here's some unsolicited advice, learn who "hears" things from people to listen to. Then shut the hell up.
I don’t doubt they heard things. I just wonder whether these reports come from objective observers or people who have reason to make the players look bad and the program blameless.

Again, you have to pay attention and figure out who is reliable. We have quite a few posters that have legitimate connections to people in the program. We used to have more. But, people (like you) that call them out and ask for too much detail make them question why they offer what they can share. So, you have to learn when to shut the hell up.

Fran says a lot of things to build player confidence that aren’t necessarily based in reality. There’s a pattern there. Him saying something positive to the media about a player - I take that with a grain of salt.
