It ain't that valuable.

Sure it is, i would need to see some financials but i bet i could make the math work. Float out some 30 year NYS dormathority bonds. Rates are dirt cheap, combined with a developer, some other grants and donations. Debt service on $300 Mil is $1,347,134 per month at 3.5% interest. Combined with some increased revenues from the facility, (a few grave diggers over some crushed cars should do it), some new ACC loot, and a large donation from Bees that he obtains by winning powerball and we can make this happen! Actually seriously take out Bees donations and its very workable. Its just finding the right partners. It will happen evenutally.

Edit: My spelling sucks

Do you have any idea what the status of the new bookstore that was proposed and/or the project funded by the past BOT President to create a welcome center for prospective students in the old b school? Haven't heard much on either of those and not sure if they are still a possibility? Thanks!

Last I head, the welcome center was held up due to lack of funding. That was probably a couple years ago.

The bookstore has been before the Common Council a couple times. Because it's another of those SU/private company leaseback arrangements, there's some concern about the property taxes. The (lowbrow) developer has been lowballing the city on the PILOT and it's stalled. Seems that SU has more success with these plans when they take the bull by the horns and keep the private developers out of it.

No one said we would get rid of all the other streets ...they will still be there.

I know that. But neither the current location nor the proposed location has much in the way of a street grid. And the reliance on a freeway connection gums things up further.

I'm still not seeing it, but then again I am a visual guy and looking at the SU parking map. I don't know how may cars were held at Raynor (or what I think used to be called Raynor( but it always seemed pretty full with tailgaters to me. I know there were no spots avialable for purchae by a season ticket holder so I don't know why they would hold spots empty.

The housing they just built took what used to be buses. Where did they move them to? The only place they could raze and build a lot is bordered by Raynor, Stadium, Standart and Fine View. Visually it looks smaller than what they have already lost and will lose. Maybe the are going to go south of Oakland and tear down those places too?

ESF tore down the houses south of Oakland and built a pretty large dorm two years ago. The block I'm referring to (for temporary parking) is the one bounded by Raynor, Stadium, Standart, and Henry. Long-term plans, I believe, call for two more garages (not ideal for tailgating or egress, I understand). That'll account for the increase in the number of spots despite the reduction in real estate occupied.

I'm not sure where the charter busses are to be parked. Last season was the first time Henry's been unavailable, I think. Did you see any sign of that in the Fine lot last season? Or maybe they've just sent them to Manley or Skytop?

Sky top will be the location of any new stadium, but it can't be done without a new interchange at 481.

the handwriting has been on the wall. look towards south campus. but then i've been called an idiot for suggesting such. the dome will not live forever.

I know I am late to the party on this thread, but I received second hand information a few months back that came from people on the Hill stating that there are people of influence at SU who want the area the Dome is on incorporated back into the academic sector. The Dome is old and getting closer to it's end every year that goes by. The talk is about South Campus and there is apparently some $$$ already in a kitty preparing for the inevitable.

Take it for what it's worth. I don't see the Dome going anywhere in the next 5 years, but a decade from now we could be heading back to South Campus for games.

Whatever happens, and whenever, please don't give the project to the Destiny Boys. We'll be playing games at rented fields for 5 years.

Charter bus parking got moved to Skytop last season.

Thanks. I guess that does free up valuable space closer to the Dome. My take on the whole tailgating/parking/access concern has always been that fans and tailgaters should be prioritized over the storage of vehicles. They need to be close to the building; busses, after they've dropped off their riders, don't.

All you rich alumni.

I don't see it happening anytime soon. Roof is good for another 20+ years.

We need the fall to be here to start talking football again

The original roof was replaced in 1999 after almost 20 years of service. The current roof has 13 years on it. Not sure where you're getting another 20+ years of service life from.

20 more might be a lot, but do keep in mind that this second roof was allegedly of better quality. Also, the first roof was lowered two or three times (which wears it out) and survived the Labor Day Storm; this one hasn't been lowered yet. So it could be good for a long time.

I cant believe it's been 13 years. It felt like 5 years ago. That's why I said what I did. I stand corrected.

Duh. I park at Fine and saw those dorms on Oakland all season. Just forgot about them. Garages do zip for tailgating or the football experience. Ugh. Can't wait till we move.

The Metrodome roof collapsed after 29 years. They were hoping to get another 4-5 years out of it before replacement.

With our potential snowfall, I'd expect a replacement would be needed sometime in the early-mid 2020's.

Beyond tailgating or the football experience, they're awful to get out of.

Went to the SU-Seton Hall game in Newark two years ago. Parked in this great garage directly next door to the arena for what seemed a terrific rate, was thinking "Wow, what a great set-up, what doesn't SU have something like this?" Then we sat in the garage for 45 minutes after the game, waiting to get out.

I park in the $15 garage for bball. I get there just about when the doors open or just after. I want to be on the first couple floors where it takes but 10-15 minutes or less sometimes to get out (unless the cops make me turn right at the corner, add 30 minutes to the ride). I got there late one game with a big crowd and was parked near the top of the garage. Took an hour to get out. Sucked.

No perfect answer. Every site has its pros and cons. We all have different opinions about the best site but its based on personal preferences. None of us is wrong (except for those who want to build an open air stadium at the fairgrounds :) )

I even liked GO's idea of out by Turning Stone. Hell, attach it to TS. I could go for a nice 330 kickoff with some great tailgating pre-game and then some poker post game. Sweet.

Does the NCAA approve of college stadiums tied into casinos?

Maybe they could call it Sav-On Stadium.

sure...just attache the stadium to the 19th hole on one of their golf courses'

All in bitch...

there's at least one idiot person of influence there that I can think of - Cantor. i wouldn't put it past her. but this is craziness.

this isn't the nfl. the dome isn't old by collegiate standards.

The Dome is fine - great sitelines, and it's a biggere marketing tool sitting in the middle of the SU campus than anything else would be. Love the games where TV shows the outside of the Dome then you see all the old class buildings. Most college stadiums are really old and basic. No reason to compare this to the NFL - esp at the pricepoints established in that place.

The Dome is the least of our worries. The poor product on the field is and remains the primary problem.
