Maybe. He loved SU. His mom not as much. But he absolutely would have stayed given the lead guard role. But JB protected Joe to his detriment. And that went back to the recruiting trail. JB was just really stubborn at times

Pitino is a great coach on the floor...but morally corrupt, broke many rules during recruiting, and allegedly , boinked the wife of an athletic department staff member, and offered to help her end the pregnancy...A great role model for the young men he coached. arranging hookers for players and their fathers on recruiting trips...and claiming he knew nothing about it...But, I guess all some people care about is winning at all cost...and his half time speech that has gone viral that people are praising...How hypocritical of him to lecture players about how they were raised. Sorry, I used to love Coach P, but if you hire him, you are saying you put wins over character...

This is why I didn't even want him in the discussion for SU coaching job.
An athletic coach is still supposed to be a teacher.
The idea may be old fashioned...but a coach should help build his players' character.

BUT...as said before...no one, NO ONE gets more out of the player talent he has than Rick Pitino.
Focusing SOLEY on basketball...he is undoubtedly one of the 3 or 4 best coaches in the country.
As well as an all-time great.
He's proven it again.

We certainly could have if the leadership didn't have the program so far behind the times.

The previous Coach...thought Joe G was was a better point guard than Richmond, when it was obvious to many of us, that Richmond had big time point guard skills and was the major reason Kadary transferred.

Kadary was just one in a long line of guys that we invested a lot of time and energy into bringing to SU… and then JB ended up disliking and pushing out for one reason or another other.

It seemed to happen frequently and I never quite understood it.

Kadary was more of an after thought. We recruited him AFTER Jackson went to UCONN.

We had a guy whose sole purpose was self-promotion, who has successfully figured out he can get all of that he wants without giving a dime to Syracuse. So St John’s had something attractive to a coach that Syracuse did not.

I don’t think I’ll ever understand the Syracuse approach to fundraising. Clemson has IPTAY (and has for decades) to pull in all the relatively small dollar value donors. Then coaches can focus on the potential big fish. And ideally, you’re focusing most on the people you already know are supportive since they’ve been small dollar value supporters for years or decades. My opinion is Syracuse puts far too little effort on small fish - which both leaves money on the table AND makes the job of coaches and the AD that much harder in identifying possible big fish.

I got my masters at UAlbany - the amount of effort they put into getting money from me has to be at least an order of magnitude more than Syracuse. So I have pretty direct evidential reason to feel Syracuse is badly dropping the ball.
