It is funny to me Sean Lewis is a contender for a HC and Coach Lock ‘em up isn’t a contender for any of these MAC jobs.

Why? Lewis is young, up and coming, exciting offense... Shafer is now in the respected coordinator but failed head coach re-tread bin.

Don't underestimate how much Shafer hurt himself bailing out of the Maryland job. Wasn't a good look. And it was noticed.

Shafer isn’t that old and if he wants to be a HC again the MAC level is where he would likely get a chance.
I agree Lewis is an up and comer.
Who likely will get his own chance soon.
If Shafer isn’t getting interest from MAC schools it’s doubtful outside of MTSU he will get a HC job again.

I think if Shafer does a good job with the MTSU defense, he only needs to spend 1-2 more years in purgatory. Eventually, a MAC coach with some success will be hired by someone else and Shafer will get a look to "sustain their success." He will never take over as a program builder.
