Kent State to hire Sean Lewis

Who was the last SU assistant to leave to become a head coach? Hofher to UB in 2001?

I'm fine with this because it's Babers systems and Babers is the QB guru. Not to mention Lewis is a Co-OC. I loved his energy and good luck to him. That said, I think this is a terrible job for Lewis to take.

i'd expect him to take a few guys. This may be a good thing end of day. We're 4-8 two years in a row. You'd be foolish to not want some fresh faces in here to diagnose some of the issues and see if we can tighten up the ship. No matter what they inherited, it's not like they have hit it out of the ball park 100% of the time w the rebuild. Fresh is good sometimes.

I feel like it's the kind of job you can fail at and wont be a knock against you in the future. He'd easily slide into a coordinator spot at at Syracuse type P5 school. He's young enough where this isn't his only shot at a head coach position.

I agree. By all means, assistants should look to become head coaches. But Kent is such a crap job. A lot of candidates turned them down.

I think it's great for him.

I just wish it wasn't announced until Saturday. Get early signing out of the way. Hopefully no impact.

Can't see it unless one of the young position coaches are going to be promoted to coordinator. Stanard has been a DC before. Everyone else it would be a huge promotion.

Dino Babers Head Coach
Kim McCloud Assistant Head Coach/Wide Receivers
Brian Ward Defensive Coordinator/Linebackers
Sean Lewis Co-Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks
Mike Lynch Co-Offensive Coordinator/Offensive Line
Justin Lustig Special Teams Coordinator/Running Backs
Reno Ferri Tight Ends
Nick Monroe Secondary
Vinson Reynolds Defensive Tackles
Steve Stanard Defensive Ends

I'd be really surprised, why would any of the above leave? I could see a few grad assistants taking on positions coaches at Kent State.

Nick Monroe guy is the worst secondary coach i've seen. I hope he can recruit because the tackling in our secondary and the way they have played over two years is really bad. Take him

Maybe Mackey leaves to become OL coach at Kent, develops some recruiting contacts, and returns to SU in a few years.

Bad news for us, but great news for him. I hope he kills it there. Congrats to him.
It’s good for us.
Dino’s tree expanding gives me confidence his system works and he can hire good young offensive minds.
Good luck to Sean Lewis.
Also it plants a seed for a future HC if he gets it done.

Not surprised he would be attractive to a program like Kent State. Our offense has already been proven to work very well in the MAC.

Yes, but can anybody get it done at Kent State?

Darrell Hazell used it as a springboard to the Purdue job. But he only had one winning season out of two there so not sure as far as getting it done long term.

It isn't just that -- Sean Lewis has the presence and personality a program would want; he has worked in Ohio, has recruited the region.

All those MAC schools are even. They are all basically OH/IN/MI/IL schools where hard work and development can cause a team to go up. None of them can sustain dominance as the successful move on.

Lewis could win the MAC why not.
Akron was garbage years ago when we played them in 2010 and they won the MAC East this year.
