KingJoseph Edwards "not" in the portal

I’m worried about DE even before this departure. We have some 3-down players but not very many pass-rushing specialists. Hope I’m wrong.

You're not wrong -- you can never have enough quality pass rush / DE depth.

Seems like an odd one...

Had a few hiccups meeting Fran's expectations.

OK. Young kids learn, so wasn't too worried about that.

Wonder if we have simply successfully recruited over him and he doesn't like his spot on the depth chart (happens) or if he's homesick and wants to be closer to home (also happens)... a little of both... or something else??

Thought he was tailor-made for DART, so sad to see him go.

Wish him all the best in his next landing spot.

He is a bit of a Tweener and as much as I detest Rivals, that was their commentary when they downgraded him from a 4* to a 3*. I’ll be curious to see where he lands and how his career develops.

Yes, also wondering how he was doing on weight gain/size??

Was he meeting the growth targets the S&C team had set for him or was he coming in light?? Was that an issue?

He definitely needed to get bigger and if he stayed tween size, he's likely much more suited for mid-major D (marshall, bowling green, etc.)

Same thought on size. Also not sure if anyone else noticed but the social media was a little out of control. Not partying but going instagram live every 5 mins he was doing something is prob not really a good idea.

I'll leave it to others if they want to go into more detail about KJE's issues during his brief tenure on the hill.

But suffice it to say, sounds like he wasn't a bad kid -- just had difficulty living up to the coaching staff's requirements, on repeat. Change of scenery is probably for the best, for both parties.

Again, not a bad kid, not a trouble maker, no criminal issues. Some of those other factors [depth chart, tweener, homesick, etc.] might have also played in, and were undoubtedly at least partially attributable to the stuff I list above [get in the HC's good graces, and maybe your spot on the depth chart is more favorable, for example]. But I think it is more about KJE just not getting with the program to HCFB's satisfaction.

Helpful explainer. Means the school voluntarily let him do this.
Do they get to impose particulars as to where he goes... or actually NOT goes with this particular type of transfer portal? For example... we will release you if you do not go to a school we play this year, etc.

Strained Analogy:
It’s like when Barbara Bain left Mission Impossible, I think they were better off when they brought Leslie Ann Warren aboard. Same with when the IMF (impossible missions force) dropped Peter Lupus and then brought Mr. mustache man Sam Elliott in for a few seasons.

Utter Speculation Unworthy of Me:
Perhaps a high maintenance kid that needed a lot of attention/validation. When you’re in a demanding football program, the work and the focus must be on football initially and everything cascades down from that.
To a degree, you have to check your ego at the door, not an easy thing to do for anyone. Again, I don’t know this situation and I wish “King“ Joseph the best.

I have heard rumblings about the things most kids struggle with at that age: getting to class on time, etc.

By all means a good kid but Fran doesn’t around with that stuff.
All they have to do is watch the interview JB, Meeks, Marlowe and Kyle did at the end of the year. Fran is INTENSE with that stuff. He doesn't mess around as you say.

I hope this does not interfere with Fran and Nick Williams relationship ..

Can't wait for them to DFA Volpe and LeMahieu.
Hey Gleyber, how you doing buddy? How did you like that joke where we didn't resign you, pretty hilarious, right?

Live by Fran and die by Fran. It sounds like he runs a tough strict program with guidelines that need to be followed. This is why I no longer have a problem with him giving some of these kids (Johntay Cook) a second chance, because it appears that he will not put up with any bs that will jeopardize the team. Good luck to Edwards, wherever he goes, as he seemed like a great kid with his early volunteering activities in Syracuse.
