Kyle Cuffe Jr. Entering The Transfer Portal

Not a fan of this move if he is being pushed out. Hard worker. Energy guy. Would hit big shots. Liked him for culture fit and bench spark for a few minutes. Seemed like the only person at times who wanted to be here. If he is leaving on his own, Godspeed and good luck.

Seems like it was mutual.

All true.

But I think we overvalue our own "free agents" sometimes. He was also small, lacked playmaking capabilities, wasn't a PG, was inconsistent, etc.

But I valued his hustle / energy, as you point out, an wish him the best.

Honestly, nothing personal with Cuffe... as everyone has stated, he played with effort & those few times he was playing efficiently, he was a nice player. I'm just at a place where the more player turnover we have from this team the better (really should be turning over the Coach too). We just need a whole roster & cultural reset.

The writing was on the wall as he walked at senior day. Maybe his mind wasn't fully made up or whatever, but that was a pretty strong indication that he had an idea he wouldn't be back.

Good luck to him. Hope he gets a chance to play heavier minutes at a mid-major. Manhattan, Siena, Iona, Hofstra, Quinnipiac, Monmouth, could all be solid landing places. Maybe he can join Hop at Fordham.

That's a good point, and something worth pointing out.

Kid graduated early. Earned his degree. Good for him -- wish him nothing but the best wherever he lands.

A complete non factor. only real attribute was being able to jump high.

Kyle is a very dynamic energetic player, but his game was erratic and reckless. There should be no problem upgrading from what he brought to the squad.

Nonetheless, best to him in his future.
Sounds like what we said about Copeland.
Fingers crossed!

He was one of my favorite players on the team. Always seemed to be a team player and cheerleader on the bench as well. great energy and the only guy who consistently rebounded “out of his area”.

He probably also has the highest vertical on the team, yet rarely seems to be able to complete his dunks. His inability to finish at the rim was perplexing when you see guys much shorter than him doing it all the time. Just did not have a good feel for timing his Jumps.

he was likely going to be a 15 minute guy game for us at best going forward. So I think if he wants to be a 30 minute guy it’s going to be down a level. You can’t blame him for wanting to do that.

so I would not put his leaving as anything other than a better situation for him and probably better for us.

When these things happen, I’m not so sure Red had a talk that said anything more than “your role will likely not be more than it is now“. Not necessarily telling him that he should go.

If Grad school is important to Kyle, Siena isn’t an option as someone mentioned. If he’s only got a year left to play, it makes sense to go somewhere that has a good program in the area of study, and will provide a good enough NIL to cover the year(s) of school remaining after his basketball eligibility is over.

He’s a senior academic and age wise he didn’t graduate early. He redshirted freshman year at Kansas, then got hurt after like 2 games his RS freshman season. Now he’s been here for two years.

Huge fan of his. Hope he finds a great spot and has nice rest of his career
Ditto. Great heart, great work ethic. Never recovered from knee injury. In high school much mor explosive. Best wishes. Great Dude.

Wish him the best. He lost a year at Kansas and then rode the bench for us for two years with better talent ahead of him. I enjoyed his effort and bounciness. I don't blame him one bit for wanting to play a bigger role his senior year assuming that's what it is.
