Kyle Cuffe Jr. Entering The Transfer Portal

I think it’s possible Cuffe joins his dad alma mater at St. John’s. He fits Pitino’s system as a reserve guard. he’s a good on ball defender and tough city player

Plus he'll get away with a lot more hand checks under Pitino.

I just hope we didn’t push him out the door on this one and it’s a wanting to play more minutes situation at a mid to low major. Because if he goes to another high major to play the same 5 to 10 minute role he did here, not sure what we’re doing here…
This kid really wanted to come back.
Hard to believe he wasnt pushed out.

Cuffe's dad reposted Kyle's instagram story and said "The shackles are off". Lol
It’s typical of every parent who thinks their kid is better than they are. Kyle was a human turnover whenever he had to make a play. Not only should he have had shackles on, he should have been hog tied to the bench. For every good, there was at least one bad. The kid played hard, but not always very smart.

It's weird, I didn't want Cuffe to play much next year, but I did want him back. He's a program guy. Good attitude, good work ethic, seemingly a good leader.

Maybe he was told that's the plan and he preferred to get minutes somewhere else. That'd be understandable.

I like Kyle, but I think this is the right move for him. Cuffe’s biggest flaw is that he’s too short for his basketball body. He needs to be 5 inches taller and be a power forward. If I were him I would go to a Siena-level program and likely be a productive starter similar to Brycen Goodine. I wish him well.

Cuffes situation is a whole indictment of the program now. Folks this isn’t gonna be better next year with current leadership. We are just running out the egg timer
I assumed the immediate JB successor was gonna be rough but this is worse. One more year hasn't sounded this good since Melo.

I’m sure his replacement from Youngstown St. or whatever UNC satellite school will be a stellar upgrade.

Why don’t we wait to see how things in the portal shake out before crapping on next year.
Because, I don't believe this coaching staff has the ability to get us to where we want to be. We can accumulate a whole new roster, ripe with talent and skill. We could win more games than this year. But, I don't think this coaching staff could get them to reach their potential. That is why I feel we are wasting a year.

Trying to be realistic and impartial in this environment, most programs (Syracuse included) can't just put $$ on the table for any kid and expect there won't be a lot of competition out there doing the same thing. It's an open market and the players are calling the shots.

Given that, a program needs other intangibles to make them stand apart to close the deal. An honest question at this point -- What are the other positives it can put on the table?? Recent winning tradition, development of players to the next level, outstanding facilities and rabid fan base, top level conference with top level competition, a super academic opportunity (;);)), hall of fame coaching, etc, etc.

It's really difficult to see SU rate any higher than a C+ compared to comparable programs when it comes to the intangibles.

For starters, when a guy hits the portal, they are usually dead to me. I have actively rooted against a couple at their next stop.

But Kyle is getting his SU diploma, he'll always be Orange and a fellow alum, and I wish him the best wherever he ends up.

That said, this is a no-brainer. I thought Red MIGHT keep him around, given the extra scholarships we will be allowed. Still, if you assume that Red has also gotten "the talk" from JW, then a pruning of branches from the roster tree is reasonable. Especially expendable branches.

Kyle ranks 11th overall on the team in shooting percentage and 9th overall in 3 pt percentage. And this was on a bad team. Whatever terrible adjective you can think of to apply to that is probably not strong enough. He also has a poor assist to turnover ratio. He is decent defensively, but a guard has to have at least ONE offensive skill. When you get right down to it, there have been many past SU teams on which Kyle would have never gotten off the bench.

I hope he does well wherever he lands. Forever Orange, Kyle.
