Kyle McCord to NFL Draft

More pressing question… why isn’t he in the heisman conversation? He’s better than the other qbs? Best three players I’ve seen are Hunter, kid from Boise and McCord.

I also bet that McCord has a better nfl career than Lewis. Lewis is a function of scheme and talent advantage.

Kyle McCord summed it up best yesterday when he said "Everything comes full circle" in reference to Ohio State and his success at Syracuse University. I will always cherish this season and what he did in a Syracuse University Uniform. He will always be talked about as one of the Syracuse Greats and he should be. I looked forward to every single game this year. Coach Brown pulled off the transfer of the history of the transfer portal era and that is a salute to his vision of what Syracuse University Football will become. Kyle McCord you truly will be Orange Forever!!!

Will be interesting to see where he lands. The big slight on him so far has been that he still makes catches harder than they need to be and mobility. I think he’s at least at Purdy level in those regards
Purdy is a good comp.

Very poor man's Brady.

IF he plays in the bowl game, conservatively youd say he throws for 4,500 total. Is anyone catching him? If Ward isn't in the playoffs, he won't play the bowl, Sanders only has at most one game left, he would need a 401 yard game to pass McCord if Kyle doesn't play.

Anybody in the CFP would be at least 800 yards behind McCord (just based on the shown list). Only 2 guys would have a chance to play 4 games, and likely the final 2 playing will have a first round bye.

Who actually is going to dethrone McCord?

Multiple reasons, IMO.

The "rep" he had coming out of OSU was that despite being a highly rated recruit, he wasn't as good as the players who preceded him there, and was basically just a game manger type.

Then, when he lost to Michigan, he "couldn't win the big one."

Then, his HC [Day] didn't really want him back as the starting QB [perception].

And then we lost early to Stanford.

So I think it was a combination of factors, when in actuality, he's one of the top QBs in the entire nation. It's kind of like when you don't start the season ranked, and then have to climb your way uphill against a bunch of less-deserving teams who WERE ranked at the beginning of the season, and who stay ahead of you benefitting from that initial ranking.

380 with 3 tds, and outplayed the year long Heisman favorite Ward on the #6 team in the country, likely knocking them out of the playoffs, and he doesn’t even get an ESPN helmet sticker!!! He’s not even in THAT conversation, and Baylor Qb in a “who cares game with who cares stats”, gets espn’s focus. (My wife laughed when I was miffed about a sticker)

As someone said his hype seemed to end with Pitt. The standard for QBs now for Heisman is “name school QB”, With 10+ wins, with no bad losses (with just mediocre stats), and most importantly, being clutch with ALL big game performances. That last part is what derailed Dart, Milroe, Beck, and almost every other QB including Kyle, (who didnt have the pre season hype the others had). Because QBs almost always win, the standards are different than for RB or WR.

The few times RBs or receivers win, they win with much more up and down performances, and their total production is more the standard, vs. the every game microscope for QB.

Had the Miami game come earlier in the year like game 5 or 6, and he “outplayed” (then front runner) Cam Ward like yesterday, I think he would have had more believers and momuntum. He crushed vs Miami, UNLV, GT, but Pitt came too early and Miami too late.

I keep seeing people compare to Purdy, but Purdy can move. I think he’s more like Kirk Cousins who’s less mobile. I could see him eventually getting a shot to start somewhere. The intermediate passing game is his bread and butter which is what you need to be good at to succeed on Sundays.

He had some good runs this year, albeit few.
But what’s his max arm strength? I’m not sure I saw a full on deep pass all year.

And then again… look at Trevor Lawrence and multiple early first round QB picks (Zach Wilson I’m looking at you). The list is a mile long.

I think McCord sticks.

That is a crazy number of passing attempts. 46.5 per game. Cam Ward has more than 100 less passing attempts and Dart has almost 200 less passing attempts.
I think some of this has to do with us losing Zeed. We didn't really have many other deep threats who can run by someone, so we had to play a more possession style short to mid throw system. Meeks and Pena were great downfield, but almost exclusively on back should contested catches since they weren't beating their man vertically

I think he’s showed his arm strength plenty by putting balls in tight windows on intermediate throws to the three main guys. The lack of deep balls is more due to us having a bunch of possession receivers with JRS injured and Haynes gone most of the year. Succeeding as a QB in the NFL is usually about the situation someone falls into. Lawrence and Wilson went to two perennial terrible franchises.

Come on Kyle, come back and get in the Heisman top 5 with a real shot at it. You'll have weapons and a preseason hype campaign.

Edit: kcsu I know, he's not coming back, but we all have to do our part to sell it, get off my back.

I mean he threw a dime on the first drive of the second half (second play?) for a 50 yard pass and then followed it up with a 25 yard TD pass. How much further does he have to throw it?

I’m not an NFL Combine analyst. Ask one of them.
