Lack of athleticism

Yeah but this team would automatically be better if they could move, jump, etc. it’s doubly troubling that this is about as fundamentally bad a team as I’ve seen here
Well for sure. Griffin is very athletic. Doesnt help him not turn the ball over trying to crossover in the paint though.

The athleticism problem is Buddy, JG and Marek (and whatever stiff we roll out at C for 2 minutes a game). Kadary, Griffin, Q, Braswell, Newton are plenty athletic. But we don’t play them enough, while the other 3 get 100-115 minutes a game.

We’d help the athleticism problem by cutting those three minutes down by 40%.

Those even out as the season goes on. No? JB has always been bad at scheming offense out of shooters as long as I can remember.
JB said today that JG is really good at getting us into our offense. I loled. Apparently making the first pass to buddy and then setting a screen for another cut is effective enough

I don’t get Braswell at all.

Don’t get what?
What his deal is. I want him to be an answer but man he just doesn’t seem to be a confident player or something. His defense is really good but other than the other night his offense is terrible.

Even offensively...the driving dribbling and passing is generally below average. When any team flashes a double team it’s horrendous
The on ball screens, especially on the wing, are ridiculous for lots of reasons. Not the least of which is that no one respects the greener as an offensive threat, they are trying to set those screens in too much traffic, more often than not the screener is not making contact or not making it long enough, and guards rarely try to make teams pay by attacking the big who is overly hedging.

Which is stunning actually. Is Buddy really a worse shooter than the last two years? Or is the coaching and style we play not a fit?
He's getting the other teams best defender, because other coaches aren't dumb. They know JB will stick with Buddy even when he can't possibly get a shot off. Because, as Ghost will say - spacing. Oh, and the soft bounces off of Buddy misses.

I mean we are running it 97% of the time. It’s crazy and the guards are so slow they can’t force the hedge to backfire. UNC was switching bigs on our guards and we couldn’t get by them.

I will give him some credit. Buddy (and griff) make a lot of tough shots (and miss easy and open ones). But the shot selection on this team is terrible. Even Griffs makes today a lot we’re bad shots

Here's a thought...use Buddy to set the screens, or Griffin, and instead of rolling the screener, have him flare as his man is hedging and look to get a shot.

Yep.

How long ago was 2008? It’s been getting progressively worse.
We went to the Final Four in 2013 and ‘16 (both teams very athletic) and were top 10 for most of the season in 2014. 10 years is an exaggeration/not accurate.

Just wish we had another year or two of Chewy setting those screens. Always effective!

We don’t have the personnel to play exclusive 2-3 zone but it doesn’t matter.

None of the assistant coaches can stand up to JB to get him to listen.

This team has some talent it’s just a team coached poorly.

We don’t have the personnel to play zone
We don’t have the personnel to play man
What’s left ?
