Liberty opens as 7 point favs…

ML is at +175 which implies a 36% chance for Cuse to win outright. We win this game 1 of every 3 times(per the oddsmakers) That is the farthest thing ever from a “major upset”.

I recall that warm Saturday night back in late August 2019 in Lynchburg, VA. We were coming off that (now very apparent) aberration of a season. It was a game we were expected to coast through with ease and never really be a contest. That wasn't the case, and if it hadn't been for Liberty's self-inflicted wounds in the 1st half, we are likely down at halftime and the game being right there for the taking.

Looking back now, that was truly a red flag of things to come. The following week we get smoked, and totally embarrassed by a mediocre at best Maryland team, which ruined the highly anticipated and probable ESPN Game Day deal. In a heartbeat, all that pent up good feeling about SU Football was falling off the cliff.

Today, some two years later, we are seemingly still falling. Being roughly a (1 out of 3)/touchdown dog in our own house to Liberty speaks volumes, at least for anyone objectively willing to hear. I'm certain, if we lose this game, the usual suspects will have a gamut of excuses/reasons for such misfortune. Ugh! :(

I advise people not to bet the house on Syracuse. Just my opinion. I love Syracuse football as much as anybody, but that Liberty offense will score and I do not believe the offense we saw against Albany erases what happened against Rutgers.

Rutgers D >>>> Liberty D

Like i've said, this is the fork in the road game for Dino, his career, the trajectory of this team's bowl chances.

Losing to a Liberty at home will be a tough nut for the fan base. It just makes everything much harder. If we had a real leader at QB emerging (or had emerged) I'd be more confident in course correction and finishing up strong.

We are not a team that finishes strong ever b/c the depth isn't there, the team seems to break down injury wise and we can't outscheme anyone.

If we can get this one, we may jump aboard the momentum express and catch WF at home. At that point we're 4-1 and you can taste a bowl game.

This is the most important game of Dino's career in my very layman opinion

Look to see a lot of blitzing from Liberty, should be a good test for our Oline.

I know all the qualifiers, opponents, blah, blah, blah

but

SU is currently 34th in total offense, 4th in total defense.

its highly unlikely they are going to end the season in those spots, but they are indicative of how much, much, much, much better this team is than last year. That team was 125th on offense and 112th on defense.

this team is also better than the 2019 team that went 5-7. That team was 71st on offense 115th on defense.

This team is just flat out better across the board.

LOL. Ok. Maybe they will be but throwing tecmo bowl #’s into the rankings after playing Albany is hardly the barometer we should be using. But carry on.

we were the better team the first 3 games and gave 1 away.. Nothing says a better team cant give one back to us.. Maybe we play a clean game, that happens too.

We were the better player team against Rutgers but they were the better coached team. We scored a TD running the ball and then didn’t run the ball with our RB’s the rest of the game. Our coaching all the way around is very poor and the main thing holding this team back from a bowl. If the coaching staff can improve we win. If not we will be looking at another rough season.

The defense, imo, should give us hope to at least be in each game.

It really feels like we have legit athletes on the defensive side that are making plays all over the field.

I agree with this but the Liberty style of offense has been a huge issue for us going back 10+ years. I get it, new DC but we’ll see. We need to make their QB uncomfortable but also prevent him from running all over. Even if he just gets 4-5 yards a play we’ll start wearing down if our offense can’t stay on the field.

Curious how we game plan on both sides of the ball.

Gotta be a born and raised in the greys of CNY thing, don’t get it. Remember when i just moved back to cny after a decade away (born with early years in NYC), anyway remember they were already writing off the Oncenter convention center then hotel syracuse projects as a failure…….before they were even built!!

History has proven the opposite. Same too for the amphitheater, which having now being old enough to have been mostly everywhere, I’d put it number 2 best music venue of its type (right behind Denver’s red rocks).

It must be quite a burden to be so negative and morose. It’s a beautiful day out there today and just 4 days away from when we kick Liberty's arse!

Really? Okay. You are clearly entitled to your opinion, however, you're not entitled to your own facts to support your view.

Facts: We were large favorites against Liberty in that aforementioned game. We got smoked against a mediocre Maryland team. Game Day afterwards said no thanks to the 'Cuse campus. After that Maryland debacle, we got it handed to us by Clemson. We went on to finish that year with another losing season. Since, SU Football has continued to trend significantly downhill. We are a considerable underdog at home against an unranked non P5 school.

Call it negativity as you wish, however, the above is factual and the harsh reality.

Realities trajectory changes Friday!

So is Rutgers the new MD game. We’re going to prop up their defense like it’s a top 10 defense? They’re going to get crushed in the B10 just like MD did the year they were going to win it all b/c they beat us.
That RJ Young guy still has them ranked in his top 25, so there’s that. Lol

The defense is better. That is for sure. The offense? Let’s see a real game first.
Of course the offense is better.

it’s okay to say it. The question is to what degree, and there is still upside. Davis and Elmore will add power, Alford and Gadsden are new weapons.

They are better at every spot other than not having a wr as good as jackson. Team is also deeper.

We lived that history, we’re aware. I think there are significant differences and signs we’re not those teams, but until we do it on the field it’s conjecture (you’re right - we’re all entitled to that).

You didn’t actually dive into the similarities on the field - just that this happened before to another version of our team.

Sometimes, I think people think I’m not aware of the past and think “if he only knew” when I’m looking at the the team fairly objectively and finding actual things to be positive. It ain’t blind.

Maybe the negativity for negativities sake is the blind thing here
