Liberty opens as 7 point favs…

We lived that history, we’re aware. I think there are significant differences and signs we’re not those teams, but until we do it on the field it’s conjecture (you’re right - we’re all entitled to that).

You didn’t actually dive into the similarities on the field - just that this happened before to another version of our team.

Sometimes, I think people think I’m not aware of the past and think “if he only knew” when I’m looking at the the team fairly objectively and finding actual things to be positive. It ain’t blind.

Maybe the negativity for negativities sake is the blind thing here

You, and only you, are the owner of your own thinking.

FWIW, I have no doubt that you're aware of SU's history.

True. It’s quite lovely in here. My bad for assuming you or anyone else had access ;)

I get it - we don’t want to get burned again. <Shawshank Redemption hope clip inserted here>

Things are pretty late in the day here for this staff, a loss Friday could and maybe should be the final nail. But you just keep whistling past the graveyard.

If we are going to rock with Devito (I'm 50/50 on it) then what we need to do is incorporate our bigger receivers. I want to see Aflord and Goddenson get more burn.
Who is this Goddenson that you speak of?

Gotta be a born and raised in the greys of CNY thing, don’t get it. Remember when i just moved back to cny after a decade away (born with early years in NYC), anyway remember they were already writing off the Oncenter convention center then hotel syracuse projects as a failure…….before they were even built!!

History has proven the opposite. Same too for the amphitheater, which having now being old enough to have been mostly everywhere, I’d put it number 2 best music venue of its type (right behind Denver’s red rocks).

It must be quite a burden to be so negative and morose. It’s a beautiful day out there today and just 4 days away from when we kick Liberty's arse!
It's an endoctrination process starting in early schooling.

LOL. Ok. Maybe they will be but throwing tecmo bowl #’s into the rankings after playing Albany is hardly the barometer we should be using. But carry on.
We had more yards against Albany than we did in the other 2 games combined. Against FBS teams we are 98th in Total O. Yet another corner turned.

its all relative. While we are probably not as good as those numbers show, a lot of teams have played a cupcake and racked up stats.

The 2019 O was not good. That O averaged 391.5 ypg vs FBS teams, which was good for 70th. Right now we are 98th averaging 320.5 ypg vs FBS teams. So in our next 9 games we need to average 407.25 ypg just to match that 2019, which wasn't a good O.

Didn't they have 2 guys rush for over 100 yds against us last year? I'm sure the QB will hurt us but as with every week, it starts with stopping the run.

That’s a fair point. I also acknowledge we are better than last year, especially the OL is doing enough to be competitive. I have no idea how that will all translate to our ACC games.

Of course the offense is better.

it’s okay to say it. The question is to what degree, and there is still upside. Davis and Elmore will add power, Alford and Gadsden are new weapons.

They are better at every spot other than not having a wr as good as jackson. Team is also deeper.
The offense was horrible against Rutgers. Rutgers is terrible. We beat up on the worst team I’ve ever seen in CFB. Until we do this against a good team i would say we have a good/great RB. That’s it.

4 winning seasons the past 20 years. I'll admit, there are things about this team that look better than 2019, but there are some things that also look worse. The complete lack of discipline(i.e. penalties) is absurd. The only passing offense we've really seen is against Albany. Albany is one of the worst D-1 teams in FCS. We aren't going to be rolling up 50+ yd TD runs on 3rd and 29 against anyone else on our schedule.

That being said, we thought we learned something against Ohio but turns out they are FCS bad. We'll see how Rutgers does against #19 Michigan before we can really judge that game. And Albany was the equivalent of CBA or Whitesboro playing Tully.

What concerns me is the coaching...ST is beyond bad, Dino gets an unsportmanlike, the horrible play calling against Rutgers, and the ungodly amount of penalties against mostly inferior competition is seriously alarming. Not sure ST will get cleaned up without a dedicated coach, play calling has been suspect for years and seems to be continuing in that direction, penalties are going up exponentially, 4,8,16 per game. Those things I mentioned are manifesting themselves on the field. The positives like you said are conjecture therefore do not outweigh what has already been put out there during the game.

Sorry for the long post, I've kept mostly to myself after games cept for a bit of Rutgers griping, so this is one part an answer to your post and other part my general feelings as we head into Liberty.

Hope not, but yeah I agree a lot is riding on this one.

I think you're prob selling this team and staff short by a good amount. Should be fun. I'll be rooting for success like a normal fan.

Is Rutgers D horrible?

I'm not as worried as some are about penalties. I honestly think maybe the refs stopped getting free food or something before the game. It's been really weird. Pantom holding calls, non-fumble fumbles, no warning Unsportsmanlike on the HC.

We ran over the two bad defenses and struggled against equal talent and a well-coached D in Rutgers. Lucky for us, Liberty is not great on D. Louisville and BC are bad too.

Heads up. We're not the only ACC team hanging out in between mediocre and worse. And we have a chance to get better.

Then they should have taken care of business against a meh Rutgers squad.

The O/U is interesting. Right around 53 except for the 62.5 pt outlier.

I’m not a betting man but that total sounds about right. I would guess it would be under. Think this will be a defensive game.

If Devito struggles early, I hope Babers won't wait too long to make a change.
We have so much Tommy baggage that we’re now literally posting that if Tommy struggles we hope Dino switches to a LESS EFFECTIVE quarterback.
I’m not saying you’re wrong with the sentiment, I’m just saying that’s how crazy this all is.
