Liberty opens as 7 point favs…

Fair enough. But I get so many Jay Cutler vibes from TD. Great arm, can make every throw, but something's "missing". That type of QB thrives under a good OL, but flounders when facing a good/great defense. Its like there's no other tricks in the bag because he can't step up when rushed, or improvise when needed.
In ACC play I don't see Tommy doing much of anything to be honest. Feature ST, add the threat of a mobile GS, and we might have something to work with moving forward. JMHO

Oh, and by the way- I am hoping for an extra crispy serving of CROW should TD prove me wrong.
You won't have to eat crow...one great throw against Albany doesn't make a career. His large body of work speaks for itself. TD is what he is...a mechanically well trained QB with a great arm and (so far) has shown very little in game management skills and finding ways to move the sticks.

GS doesn't have perfect mechanics but he might possess the necessary intangibles to run this offense. 690 west's assessment of GS' throwing is premature at best and idiotic at worse because we've seen so little of him in game situations.

I have a funny feeling Dino trots GS out to start the game...no inside info just a hunch.

Great post. That’s my whole point, we’re all jaded and cynical with Tommy. He’s given us PTSD. But Shrader has no ability to throw an accurate ACC Ball down the field. He did it once. I think his skill set should be utilized here and there but I’m convinced as mediocre as TD is, he’s absolutely the more effective overall QB.

His QBR is better than TD’s and that’s playing in the SEC as a freshman. So I’m not positive he’s the less effective QB. I don’t know that he’s the more effective QB b/c I don’t know if he can help us score 7 pointers. But I know against equal competition Devito will more often than not, struggle to help us score touchdowns.

you realize on Saturday and for the season Devito averages more yards per carry than shrader.
Mark my words, Bees- if TD ends up winning this stat, we’re gonna be in bad shape. He runs outta panic most times, and honestly always looks ready to be carted off after a big hit. He doesn’t have the instincts to slide and/or avoid major contact. GS otoh, runs by design. He’s a threat to do so every time.
When we get to tougher competition our OL will struggle, and so will TD. I’d want GS to run the O back there & present a viable option other than duck and run.

Tommy is your starter, and as long as he is healthy he will be. You don't trot him out as a captain, and then sit him. Dino will go with Tommy as his starter all year, there will not be a change. I would expect an announcement by Thursday.

That settles it.

many of devitos runs are by design as part of the rpo package. And when two guys scramble I’m not sure how someone can say one guy is in a panic and the other isn’t.

We're better than Liberty and I think we should win this game.

Their offensive line is bad, we have better skill position players despite how most of us feel about our receivers, and Willis is good but not good enough to backpack them against a competent (maybe better?) ACC defense. If we force him to do it all, which he pretty much has against three chit teams, I like our defenses chances.

Their defense is probably average at best, it's hard to tell based on who they've played. But I think our o-line is going to continue to improve and Tucker will go for 100+. And I think if Tommy has time we can pop a few big passes which might be all we need if it opens up room for the run game.

I reaaallly want this one and based on social media it seems like the guys are ready to get after it. I'm ready to be hurt again.

He's def run more on designed runs this year than running out of panic.

I think folks are having a hard time adjusting to the idea that he's gotten better at the things they already had an opinion on.

Oh, and the big hit he took vs Albany he was sliding as he was hit. It should have been a penalty, IMO

EDIT: With Shrader, there will be more running only teams will not be sitting on any long throws. So lots of dudes in the box. Much tougher. I think this is one of the reasons why Dino is rolling with TD.

It's only 3 games so I'm hoping he'll prove me wrong. Liberty is a good team...we'll see what happens.

Didn't they have 2 guys rush for over 100 yds against us last year? I'm sure the QB will hurt us but as with every week, it starts with stopping the run.
Almost their entire team is back both on O and D.

hopefully the D we are playing now and the D we stopped playing as a result of the last Liberty game dont get swapped this week.

yes they did. One is back and one is gone.

I think if he named GS the starter it would have leaked by now. Just can't see that happening and his dad not telling someone.. willing to be pleasantly surprised tho.

You can't post this on a bulletin board...so what do you call it?

I think this game is going to be spirited
I don’t know… who on the team will take that personal? Recently, Dungey would have, Zaire, Delone maybe, Marrone for sure. Dino will say it’s just another game

The way Liberty pushed us around last year I hope the team comes out like their hair is on fire. The Liberty game last year was the most frustrating lost in a long time

The good news - the team, unfortunately, probably has this game circled on the calendar because of the way it went last season.
The bad news - under no circumstances, ever, should Syracuse football have Liberty circled on the calendar for 'payback'. How the mighty have fallen.

We are going to have to play our best game in 2 years to win. Typically the team with the better QB and coaching staff wins.
Freezes Junk trumps Dinos Ohana 10 days to Sundown and their QB is exponentially better than Tommy or Shred. Fortunately our best coach is our DC and our best unit is our D which will have to carry the day for us.

If we can win the turnover battle and play a clean game we have a chance.
If not this might get very ugly.

Last year we started Rex and our defense didn't know what they were doing. We lost by 17.

How ugly exactly do you think it might get?
