Liberty opens as 7 point favs…

Last year we started Rex and our defense didn't know what they were doing. We lost by 17.

How ugly exactly do you think it might get?
20points. Something like 30-10.
Liberty has SEC kids and very good coaching. Freeze is a creep but hes a very good coach light years better than Dino when it comes to game preparation and in game adjustments.
Their QB is exceptional. Hes a much better runner than most RBs we will face and he can make all of the throws. He is going to put enormous pressure on our D.
I hope that we play fast. Id like to gas them by the fourth Q and win the game. Need to own field position. Make them sustain long drives. No short fields and hopefully play a clean game and feed off the crowd.
Liberty is much better than any team we play. We will need to play very well to win. If we play like we did against Rutgers it wont be close.

Agree with this, and some people here haven't come to grips with it because of how quickly Liberty ascended from lower end MAC type team to top end G5.

But they're playing a different team this year. And on Friday night vs Saturday at noon.

They have a QB who will go first round, maybe high first round. I don't think they have enough horses throughout the offense and on D to turn this into any kind of laugher.

I also don't think they're better than any other team we will face, although they may have the best overall player we'll face.

My bad i meant that we have played so far. I do think they are top 5 vs our schedule this year.

I think we need to slow it down and take the air out of the ball. Limit the amount of opportunities the Liberty offense has it. This also may help with our number of penalties and bonehead plays that have plagued Dino’s teams. At least not lose the special teams battle and hope our defense can get a takeaway or two.

For the love of god don’t abandon the running game. Hammer Liberty with our stable of running backs.

I do not have faith in the offense sustaining long drives (I hope I am wrong). I expect points to come from big plays by Tucker and an occasional deep ball. How many of those can we count on happening?

Same here. I don’t have a lot of confidence we can sustain long drives and punch in touchdowns. I think we need a couple of big plays to kind of get us going and by big play I mean Tucker breaking off like a 48 yard touchdown run, or someone getting deep,

it would be nice to get a little TD help from the defense to, pick six, kick off return, something big.

Yeah. The last thing in the world we want to do is go fast. Slow and boring is the recipe

Ya, I like the idea of a fast offense but I like winning much more. Dino and the team just don’t look competent at warp speed. It seems that we want to sprint before we crawl and walk. Let’s get rid of all these procedure penalties and miss-cues then we can incrementally speed it up when it makes sense.

I believe the brief times we've gone fast this season is when we've looked the best. We just can't go fast and call low % stupid plays that get us in 3rd and long. The worst combo I see from Gilbert is the RB dive for 1, then the hail mary and now it's 3rd and 9 in a span of 5 seconds.

You won't see us going fast very often with TD at the helm. The staff understands that he doesn't consistently make the correct read at the LOS enough to take the risk. Three and outs are deadly...especially against a team with a dominant QB.

Last week was GS' "going fast" test. Imo, the staff was testing him (despite the score/opponent) to determine if he is capable of running the up tempo game. We'll see how the coaches felt very soon.

Where do you get that he isn’t making the right read from?

I know that HCDB's offense is based on reads made at the LOS. Basically taking what the defense gives you. Rather than going to los with a predetermined call or target in mind.

Dungey did it very well in his last two years. Heck, many of the far less talented and experienced QB's (Welch, Rex even Morgan at times) seemed to run the offense more efficiently than TD.

if we are running the ball well we will go faster. But we dont seem to have a team that can do it for extended periods of time. What we need is the Phillips type play where we get the small chunk passes to keep the pace up.

Can you identify where he failed to make the right presnap read this year?

The problem is once we get an offensive penalty and get behind the chains our drive is done. I think our 1st down conversation rate after an offensive penalty is really low if not 0 against Ohio and Rutgers.

We’ve had problems with this type of QB for years. Hopefully we can contain. Lamar Jackson contributed to Heismann resume in his game with us (and his video highlight library).

I want to see SU run the ball 50 times. I don’t care about tempo in this game. I want to run the ball down their throats, and pass only now and then to keep them honest.

I would also like to see us return to the opportunistic defense that comes out ahead on turnovers. We are due for one of those games.

Ah, Syracuse Lore.

Meanwhile, good QBs who run and pass well, do it vs most everyone. That's what makes them good.

Completely impossible since neither you or I know what was called.

I sense the planning/construction of a straw man argument.

EDIT: There is also evidence that the coaches don't entirely trust his judgement because they've quit running Dino's tempo offense. Which, by the way, is one of the very few aspects of his scheme that I like.
