Looking at the roster...

It would be interesting to see what perry patterson could do under this coaching staff. I could be wrong but I dont recall Perry having much around him during his time on the hill. . Not saying he would have been like mcnabb but he could have been alot better thn he was

There wasn't much around him because P stopped recruiting for 3 years. But even so, other players may have wondered how they would do if they had an above average QB around them.

What you say is true but a lot of those errors were forced by USC, not all of them but when you see a true freshman corner come in the game even Kiffin is going to go for the Juggular. I know theres hope out there we can keep it close but I dont think people realize how good USC's offense is, were talking 2001 Miami good with all americans all over the place. If we keep it within 21 consider it a victory.

Right but they were almost as good last year as well and they didn't simply walk up and down the field. They worked for what they got and we helped them out. Yeah, the Frosh DB was an obvious target, but I'm expecting penalties and ball controll to be cleaned up and we now have the depth that won't require true frosh to play.

I know, the "what if" game goes both ways. They scored 38 and it could've been 21 or it coulve been 52. We scored 17 but honestly we shouldve scored at least 10 more.

They're traveling across country to play a team that knows we can play with them. I'm not expecting us to just play respectable this year though, I'm expecting our guys to play to win. If we play well we'll be in the game but if we make dumb mistakes again we could be looking at losing by 3 scores again.

I like Smith based on how he looked late last year, and the coaching staff apparently liked what they saw this spring...but.

The OL wasn't just lacking in the pass blocking department. We need the OL to improve their run blocking or it's going to be hard for any back to put up decent numbers. Got to give our RB's some openings, some room to roam.

Our RB's have been taking a physical beating the past few years. Carter was a stud and was able to persevere somehow. Injuries and being dinged up take their toll when the OL is as questionable as ours has been.

How many more years will we keep saying the OL is a concern before we question the OL coach? Yea I know Marrone is an OL guy too but he is the HC. Just how much time can he, or should he, spend with the OL? I keep looking at Adkins as a guy that has great contacts (not the same as great recruiter) but may be a so so OL coach.

Hey Bees, where do you get off questioning any facet of our offense, huh? Don't you realize we've got a Top 100 offense?

Agreed on the OL coaching Bees. Adkins isnt going anyplace but they could sure use some coaching. I really liked the guy that Grob had not the card shark but the other guy thought he as a good coach.

It is fine to question the OL coaching. That doesn't change the fact that the OL has been a problem.

We've now had two solid classes of OL recruits in a row--there needs to be significant improvement over the next 2-3 seasons on OL, or change is needed.

Not that they needed it but we gave them alot of help last year. We very much looked like we belonged on the same field though. We left points on the field with dumb mistakes and gave them alot of points with youthful errors. These 4 plays go differently and it's a different ballgame. 2nd and goal from their 2 pass play for -3 (score was 0-0, net -4), 15 yard defensive pen on 2nd and 19 play that got 3 yards at the USC 25 (3-0, drive ended net -7), true frosh DB losing coverage (10-24, net -7), and the Nassib fumble at USC 17 yard line (38-17, net -3 or -7). We lost by 21 and there is 22-25 points from 4 plays.

I still maintain that a 14-0 Syracuse lead - something very attainable but for our second-down loss and our dumb personal foul on their long third down - would have really gotten SC to fold. We absolutely belonged; just shot ourselves in the foot.

Bingo. I'm hinging on that stuff being cleaned up this year.

I said it before and I'll say it again, I wouldn't be surprised if we beat USC. Cross country flight to play us, then fly back across country to play Stanford the following week. Trap game written all over it. Factor in they trounced us last year and are 28 point favorites, they'll definitely be overlooking us. Cuse just needs to come out and throw a few haymakers early and let them know its a real game.

I would be shocked to all hell if we beat USC. Or lose by single digits.

They are loaded.
