Looks like we could Doug Marrone as the next Tennessee Titans HC

He is still in football and if he does a good job, he will get another shot at HC. He, by no means, threw his career away.

And I don't believe he'll get another shot as a HC, but that's just me.

The Giants went with MacAdoo , the guy who sent in the passing plays at Dallas and started the disaster of last season that cost TC his job ? Brilliant.

It's not thrown away, but from the point that he got the SU job, I don't think he imagined being an OL coach again. He did it to himself, so as long as he's happy with his $4M decision then who cares.

But it looks like he's having his agent throw his name in the ring for every job.

The more he comes up empty, the worse it looks. Those Jags better have some running game next year, with a QB who rarely gets sacked.

We are talking Buffalo here. It's no pinnacle.
1 of the 32.

the whole league is a pinnacle.

hes a snobby quitter then.

you see mr & mrs owner, im too good a coach for buffalo i need to take my talents elsewhere, so i will take your $$ and then go to chicago or NY and coach.

wait, chicago and NY dont want me??

what else we got jerry maguire?? how about dallas or SF or GB??

they dont need coaches? oh.

so, theres no job for me?? ok, ill coach the OL in jacksonville, its a very prestigious job you know.

fast forward to 2016...and hes back out there looking for a job, i bet he doesnt think buffalo is such a bad place anymore...

Fn crazy-ass buffoon.

You missed:

- new ownership wanted to have their guy in Buff
- he saw the writing on the wall and walked away with a boatload of cash
- people thought it would make him unlikely to get a look at another HC job
- interviews for a bunch of HC jobs

You keep saying "Fired > Quitting" - but maybe "Quitting + 4mill + still getting interviews > Fired"

Tennessee is leaning towards retaining Mike Mularkey because the NFL is going to force the Titans to ownership to sell the team thus they don't want to hire a new coach for a potential new owner.
it's funny that they are hell bent on hiring someone who quit coaching the bills

marrone is not going to be pleased to lose out to someone with a 18-39 record

Absolutely. Look at the guys hired this year who were fired elsewhere. Not to mention the guys who were being considered. The 49ers were down to Chip Kelley and Mike Shanahan, both fired recently, Shanahan hasn't won since he had Elway as his QB. The Browns just hired Hue Jackson, who was fired, albeit from the most dysfunctional franchise in the sport. In fact, the only two openings that I saw that went to new guys were NYC and Philly, I think
Don't forget he had Jake the snake one game from the SB. And that AFC chip loss was at Mile High to the Steelers.

new ownership wasn't ready to give him a contract extension yet.

you mean the guy who sent in the running play, that Eli then audibled out to a pass??

and with that crappy talent, he still ended up with a top 10 offense

Eli was crying crocodile tears at TC's press conference. He wants big stats for his hall of fame inaugeration. He made so many mistakes at crucial points last season , really sad to see him stab Tom in the back.

Man...he really did a number on you!
how you figure?

you guys are the last remaining members of his fan club.

the rest of the free world is just laughing at him and you.

Writing on wall

If he was on the last year of his contract at the time, maybe I'd agree. He had two years left on his deal, and apparently wasn't confident enough in his coaching abilities that he'd actually be able to, you know, earn his extension like any other coach has to do. Power move gone wrong.

not for whaley. he got his extension after the pegulas got a full season to evaluate

I'd bet it was obvious to Doug. Things get communicated a thousand ways when you're in the job/building. If they say no to an extension and then your hear rumblings?

What if you're confident that no amount of on field success will make the marriage work?

You keep saying "Fired > Quitting" - but maybe "Quitting + 4mill + still getting interviews > Fired"
when did they say that??

ill answer it for you...they didnt.

and if you win, you keep said job, thats just the way it works.

it not rocketship science to figure this out.

dont spin it, its unlikely that he will EVER get another NFL HC job.

and now 2 years out...he will have to be more than an OL coach in jax to ever get an interview again.

$1 says next year when the NFL puts out that list to teams of possible HC candidate...that he is not on it.

you again fail to point out that he was getting $4million for 2015 and he was GUARANTEED to get it for 2016 too.

instead, he took the less stressful way for sure to get 4 of the 8 he was GUARANTEED.

good for him. we should all be able to do so.

but we arent NFL HC's...of which he NEVER will be again.

personally, i wouldve toughed it out to make sure i got the 8.

and yes in the NFL fired > quitting.

especially if the reason is 'ownership wanted a new direction and i wasnt a part of it'

im sure hes a nice guy, his coaches must love him. i mean who wouldnt be happy to come off a 9-7 season, think things are on the up...and then have your boss quit and find yourself on the unemployment line. thats HC material right there.

hes one crazy-ass buffoon quitter thats for sure.

I'm not arguing in favor of what he did - only the bombastic over-the-top manner in which you're arguing it was a mistake.

What if you're confident that no amount of on field success will make the marriage work?

I think you still stick it out, unless you 100% without a doubt have another job locked up. If he went 12-4 this year and the Bills made the playoffs for the first time this century, there is a 0.01% chance he would have been fired. Instead, he walked away from a talented team for no real apparent reason. Not a good look. His name is currently a laughingstock to NFL fan bases.

Lebatard just said on his radio show that the NFL coach hiring process this offseason has been like a game of coaching musical chairs, with each team scrambling to get a coach before the music ends and they end up with Doug Marrone. That's his national perception at this moment.

I'd bet it was obvious to Doug. Things get communicated a thousand ways when you're in the job/building. If they say no to an extension and then your hear rumblings?
Wait - are there still posters in this thread who are operating under the assumption that Marrone is not batshit crazy?

Yeah, I'm sure a lot of things that have no basis in reality are "obvious to Doug."

As a die hard Jet fan, it was a head scratcher when they hired the blowhard Rex, who's greatest "win" was beating his old team to knock them out of the playoffs - and then he goes and hires his brother, who's had questionable levels of success, as his next DC.
I would have assumed blowhard Rex's best win as HC occurred in the playoffs. But it was fun watching Jets fans cry.

I will alter that a bit:
"Quitting + 4mill + Current Asst. Job/Salary + still getting interviews > Fired"
