Looks like we could Doug Marrone as the next Tennessee Titans HC

Last year's 8-7 record was a fluke. Schwartz happened to be available and did well but it helped that the defense went through the entire season completely healthy, which is unheard of in this league. Despite that they were three missed FG's from the Lions and a 4th and 20 conversion against the Vikings away from being 6-9. The offense was horrible and is significantly better this year.

Marrone leaving was actually brilliant because 8-7 was the best he was ever going to do without a legend at quarterback. Which means it had to be his agent's call.

Marrone better hope there's (a) a great defensive coordinator available if he ever gets another opportunity, or (b) a true franchise quarterback already there. Otherwise he will fail.

Here's how much Marrone sucks:

Only eight win seasons at SU since 2001. Three of the four best seasons since 2004, and the other one was the year after he left, the whole "his guys" thing that people love so much here.

Only winning season at Buffalo since 2004.

Did that with a QB that was signed after the preseason was over, lost Spiller for half the year and Jackson for four games and played hurt the rest and the best player on offense was a rookie that played hurt all year. They won that Minnesota game despite Spiller and Jackson going out early. You want to play the but for game you could do the same going the other way with KC and Oakland.

How many snaps did McCoy, Williams, Clay, Icognito get for Buffalo last year? For all that Buffalo is a whole three points better a game this year.

if he had taylor and started him, yeah, I think so. their defense looks totally foolish this year. but who knows what he would've done at QB.

i still do think ryan is better than marrone but i don't think ryan is very good.

What's the evidence for that? Head to head 3-1 with the three wins being blow outs and the loss by 7 on the road in Marrone's third game as a coach.

That argument can be turned right back around against Rex. Sanchez and Geno were HIS guys. For shat sakes he's got a Sanchez jersey tattooed on him.

He took Sanchez at the top of a very weak QB Draft Class. He did it because he was reaching. Then he did almost the exact same thing with Geno years later. Everybody in America knew that Geno was terrible, it's why he was billed as the top QB in that class and fell to the 2nd round. Rex then made him the starter when Sanchez got banged up.

Rex's QB struggles aren't an excuse for him.

The Bills offense is going because of Greg Roman, not because of Rex Ryan.
Rex wasn't the Jets' GM.

And it's not as if he got a tattoo of Mark Sanchez before the draft.

If you're going to blame Rex for Sanchez and Smith then you should blame Marrone for Manuel. Personally, I don't blame either of them for their QB busts.

NFL quarterbacks are like a box of chocolates.

Rex Ryan was all about Mark Sanchez. He openly admitted that was his guy, Marrone never did that. Everybody knew that Manuel was Nix's guy. Either way, I still do blame Marrone for Manuel. You've gotta sell your boss on why you need the guy you want.

But Marrone went out and got himself an insurance policy in case Manuel didn't come to fruition. Rex never did that in NY.

4 playoff wins.

and he actually chooses to be a head coach

He'd be a good college head coach if he weren't such a curmudgeon. He's an average-at-best NFL coach. No imagination or creativity. Poor game manager with the most conservative calls in the sport. Just not worth the drama that always comes with him.

Go on.
I don't necessary adhere to this philosophy but I can understand it. If you have a great quarterback you're a great head coach and if you have a bad quarterback you're terrible. We've seen that time and again.

why are we discussing the OL coach of the jags??

the NFL doesnt hire quitters for top jobs.

If negotiations fall apart for his next potential head coaching job, we'll all know what happened.

Nice non answer.
head coaches who have won in the playoffs are better than head coaches who haven't won in the playoffs
head coaches who have won in the playoffs are better than head coaches who haven't made the playoffs
head coaches who have won in the playoffs are better than head coaches who decide they don't want to be head coaches

Rex= undisciplined blowhard, has had some success, but not worth the deal the Bills gave him
Doug= good coach but self-destructive. too thin skinned, too set in his ways. needs to lighten up on his players and himself

I get that. No doubt QB play tends to determine the difference between playoff teams and non-playoff teams.

Super Bowl teams tend to be the mix of good coaching and great QB play most of the time.

Ryan will be gone after next season, Pegula isnt keeping him around for four years, the Ralph Wilson era of that crap is long over. Marrone opted out to the surprise of Pegula reportedly, most Bills fans wanted him back I know I did.

A big part of the problem for SU and the Bills is that it just doesn't matter how fans, owners, administrators think of Marrone or if they want him to stay - he wasn't fired - he just leaves. He's never felt the need to explain why he leaves teams so I'd find it difficult to commit to a man as your head coach who you can't ever really trust is ever committed to the job nor your team. As a fan, he's the type of guy who you'd also better not care if he's your head coach or not, or else you would be upset.

Head to head, not even close.

Same team, more talent, worse record.

Actual tangible things.

Well said.

Not nearly as tangible as you say.

7 of the starters from last year's #4 ranked defense haven't been available for at least the lsat few weeks.

I don't think it's a stretch to say the 2014 Buffalo defense would not have been nearly as productive with the following swaps in multiple games:

Corbin Bryant for Kyle Williams (out since Week 5)
Preston Brown for Brandon Spikes (gone)
Kevin Reddick for Nigel Bradham
AJ Tarpley for Keith Rivers
Leodis McKelvin for Stephon Gilmore
Bacarri Rambo for Aaron Williams (out since Week 2)
Corey Graham for DaNorris Searcy (gone)

These players are very much missed.

Which fans said they wanted him to leave either job until after he unilaterally "left"? It was Marrone who decided to abandon his commitments early by leaving regardless of any accomplishments in his 2 short stints. Fans were committed to their team, it was Coach Marrone who decided he wasn't. Fans felt jilted and deceived when he alone decided to leave. He evoked the emotion by quitting, fans didn't intitiate it - he made the choice, fans didn't. Buffalo like SU was forced to hire a new coach because Marrone quit for his own personal reasons.

If you read enough of Go's posts on the subject you'd be led to believe that SU and the Bills purposely didn't meet Marrone's demands so it could serve as a way to in essence fire him. And it was because they really wanted the guy who followed him.

There were people calling him to be fired in 2011 and 2012 on this board. He was given a win or your out ultimatum supposedly here. And that was before they add a late season road game at Missouri.

The greatest outrage here was from the non supporters when he left, it was a joke.

A big percentage of Bills fans and Buffalo media wanted him gone last year.

And none of that has anything to do with the job he did at both places.

he wants bills fans to feel like there's a big difference between where they were at last year vs this year.

bills get kellen moore next week at home, won't surprise me if they're at 7 and 8. vs 8 and 7 last year.
