Looks like we could Doug Marrone as the next Tennessee Titans HC

So, all of a sudden, because of Rex, there should be reason for optimism? He just got fired from the jets, who the bills beat with marrone. Never understood it.

People think that Rex is such an upgrade over Marrone. He's not.
So it bothers you because you have a hard-on for Rex Ryan?

That could be a possibility.
If less than zero is a possibility, then sure.

Giants are either going offense bonkers and bringing back a Sean Payton, or for the 1st time in 30+ years will be hiring a D guy and telling him he keeps McAdoo.

We all know doogie can't handle NYC anyway.

I tend to agree, Marrone loves being a New York guy but his media savvy and tolerance is like a dude from South Dakota. He can't handle it and he doesn't understand it goes with the territory of being such an overpaid phys ed teacher. It's actually quite embarrassing for Doug that he can't figure this out. Most of them do. He would wilt in a heartbeat as the Giants coach. go get Sean Payton, find the best DC out there, Giants will be fine

Look on the bright side, Kaiser--at least you'd only have to deal with it for 14 months before he'd quit to take the head coaching position at his "dream job," Fordham.

And the team would gain one HC groupie temporary masquerading as a Giants fan. Lucky you.

Quit under the charade that he was doing it for his assistants.

thats my favorite.

although, this 'dont worry, his superagent will get him a HC job' is quickly gaining in the 'What??' catagory.

heard that a few times now...

jeesh, Lunatic Fringe isnt just a great song...its where all the marrone lovers reside.

he QUIT without an ironclad agreement to become a HC.

what did he have??

a wink and a smile??
that superagent of his telling him it was a done deal?? (nice job there, jerry maguire)
a magic 8 ball telling him to QUIT??

bottom line...he QUIT.

please dont gloss that over.

this is the NFL.

yesterdays 'hot' candidates are todays fire-ees.

and then theres...the QUITTER.
First of I am not a Doug Marrone guy. I think he did a good job but wasn't suited for the college game unless he was at a factory.
Second the guy quit because of a change in ownership. He is going to get another chance as he wasn't a failure in Buffalo. Todd Haley is likely going to get the Miami Dolphins job because of Bill Parcells endorsement. Parcells endorsement gets people jobs. Marrone is part of the Sean Payton tree. Payton is part of Parcells tree.

People will realize once he interviews why he left. He was in a lameduck situation and wanted security. Mehta from the NYDN killed him once he was the leader in the clubhouse for the Jets job.

Doug Marrone will get another HC job. Cleveland or Tennessee are my picks.

sorry, but this is the dumbest thing ive ever heard.

he was supposedly turning the bills around right?? doesnt, oh i dont know...WINNING, get one security?? every NFL HC job is day to Fn day, just what kind of security did he need??

monetary?? well he certainly got that didnt he. he Fn stole from an owner.

QUIT and ran with owners $$$

hes done as an HC.

and mehta?? hes the one picking the HC of the jets?? well alrighty then...

Payton would be a good choice for HC. Spags is actually a good DC, the Giants talent on defense is weak. Reese needs to go too. Get a new GM and let him hire Payton.

When Bill Parcells was running the Dolphins and Stephen Ross bought the team Jimmy Sexton negotiated the same clause.
Parcells got to leave his job as Dolphins GM and the Dolphins had to pay him all of his money in his contract. Sexton negotiated the same clause into Marrone's contract.

Just because you say he is done doesn't mean he is done. Again the NFL hires retreads all the time. You can think whatever you want Doug Marrone is going to get another chance. He didn't steal from an owner. He had a clause in his contract that was negotiated and exercised that option.

can we stop putting HOFer Bill Parcells and doogie freakin marrone in the same post box please??

that clause makes sense for Bill...hell it makes sense for doogie, but it doesnt mean its 'right' for doogie to exercise it. in case you didnt notice the resumes are just a tad bit different.

i dont care how you gloss it over...an unproven coach, QUIT and stole $$ from a new member of one of the most exclusive fraternities in the World.

spending a year as the OL coach in jacksonville certainly hasnt put much lipstick on that pig.

we'll see...

I trust Florio over you Kaiser.

Marrone is going to get another chance. He is well thought of in the league. Nobody seems him a person who stole $$.

Miami
Cleveland
Indy
Tennessee
NY Giants
St. Louis
San Francisco
New Orleans

are all going to have new coaches. Possibly Dallas/Detroit/San Diego as well. Marrone is going to get a job as a HC.

The daily news guy didn't cost marrone the Jets job. He had a terrible interview with Johnson.

At the end of the day he is one of us and i wish him nothing but the best.

One of us? Why should that matter? Because he's an ex-player? Unless you played for Mac, he didn't give 2 sheets about ex-players, so why care about him?

Love me some Tom Cochrane & Red Rider. Takes me back to my days on The Hill...

That said, as Tom Cochrane later said (even on "our own" American Bandstand):

"Knock me down and I'll get back up
and I'll get myself back in the race again"

Don't be completely surprised to see him get another NFL HC gig.

PS: I just (re-)read an article about the Marrone/O'Brien love fest ... yikes!
You'd be crazy if you didn't think Helen would be pushing for a return to Murfreesboro (Go Blue Raiders, beat WMU) / Nashville.

That's an expansive list, not sure I agree. I could at least make the case for half those teams staying with the status quo.

Regardless, Marrone will undoubtedly get another crack. Too few coaches have success in the NFL for him not to.

postseason shmostseason. wait that means marrone was 2 games under .500 here.
Why are you so ungrateful?! I'll be telling my grandchildren stories about that magical *9-7 season.

"And then the punt team sprinted onto the field - and we were on the edge of our seats."

Which team did I list you disagree with? The only one I can think that won't make a change is St. Louis but I think Jeff Fisher who is the most overrated coach in the NFL might just resign and move on.

The rest are going to make a change. I feel bad for Coughlin but when they don't make the playoffs this year he will have gone 4 years in a row no playoffs.

Sean Payton needs a change in scenery and Jim Tomsula is totally in over his head as an NFL HC.

You pretty much hit my targets, and I'm not saying there won't be changes, just saying that I think it's highly unlikely there's 8 teams with HC turnover this season.

Fisher only leaves if he wants to, he won't be fired.
Same with Payton, he's beloved, if he leaves it's because HE wants a change in scenery.
Miami could very well shock everyone and keep Campbell.
Coughlin I'm leaning towards them letting him go, especially considering ownership's comments two weeks ago. In 30 years of following the Giants I can't ever remember them speaking publicly about their HC/GM like that.
Indy - yes there's an obvious rift. But are you really so quick to can a coach who was 33-15 before this season?
Tomsula is without a doubt in over his head, but to be fired after 1 season is beyond rare. SF has a massive cleanup job on their hands.
Cle/Ten - they should absolutely be looking to move in another direction.

Ya, up to 8 teams could make changes, probability they all do is very very low IMO.

Jeff Fisher - another coach that suffers from badquarterbackitis.

Which means he's terrible!

at least now we can remember ordinary garoppolo was and how babers made him great in college

as a senior "375-of-568 (66.0 percent) for 5,050 yards with 53 TDs and nine INTs in 14 contests"

"Is a tad undersized with small hands and short arms. Uses a three-quarters delivery that could lead to batted balls. Works heavily out of the shotgun in a spread offense, and footwork could require adjustment to working from under center. Does not always feel pressure in the pocket. Does not rip the deep out or drive the ball with high RPMs. Undershoots and often hangs the deep ball. Makes receivers work for the ball downfield, and deep accuracy could stand to improve. Makes a lot of simple, one-look reads and was not heavily challenged by consistent pressure or complex looks in the Ohio Valley Conference."

Babers gets it done with small guys with messed up deliveries and weak arms who make simple one look reads.

If I were an NFL coach, I would definitely grow a moose douche. Football guys love moose douches. I would also gain 40 lbs. You don't want to become Reid or that guy from Kansas Mangina but a little heft is good.

Fat but not too fat + Moustache = Tenure

If the last game of the regular season actually meant anything to the Patriots, this thread is about 25% of its existing size.

I believe it was Bill Parcells who said "you are what your record says you are... unless Tom Brady sits out 75% of the meaningless last game"
