Lydon to hire agent and enter NBA draft

I haven't seen a projected draft yet that does not include him as a 1st rounder.
It's probably pretty difficult to stay four years when you see the 1st round of the draft consistently filled with frosh and sophomores.
All the power to him. Good luck, Tyler.

Take this with a grain of salt because I'm not much of an NBA fan anymore but, if I was Tyler, I'd be thinking -
Does staying in school another year translate to a longer NBA career than what is projected now?
Or does it just potentially translate to a higher draft spot?
Either way, he's probably spending time in the D-League. Might as well earn a salary while it's happening.

Best NBA analysis I've seen of Tyler. Has him as #37 going to the TWolves otherwise known as purgatory for SU players. Calls him a situational 3 point shooter who will struggle guarding 3's and 4's. Also say he "knows his role" which I disagree with. His role this year was to lead and he didn't. Really like to see him come back to SU because I'm selfish.

NBA Draft Room: 2017 2nd Round

His role was to lead? Says who?

You're smart enough to figure out what I meant.

We get it, you think everyone should leave, sorry for a fringe first round guy to hire an agent and burn the college bridge is not smart at all.

So at this point has he hired and agent or hasn't he?

He hasn't yet, hopefully someone gets through to him that hiring an agent isn't a good idea, go through the process, find out where you stand, and then hire an agent.

For the 15th year in a row.

The NCAA doesn't make the rules, the NBAPA and NBA do.
Then the greedy ba$tards in the NBA and NBAPA should make it then - 3 years then you are free to go pro, period. But they never will because "it's all about the money - get it while you can."

Hmm lets see...3 returning contributors himself, Roberson and Howard. Leading returning scorer and was a projected 1st round pick but came back. Pretty obvious he needed to be a team leader, not a role player. He deferred way too much. That also was obvious.

Led the team in rebounds and blocked shots and was second in scoring to a 5th year senior that had scored quite a bit more than him last year.

Does "team leader" mean he has to shoot the ball more?

I also understand that you don't get a 2nd contract unless... wait for it...

you get a 1st contract.

Your the same guy that has our QB going to the NFL. Syracuse has an excellent record of developing kids. Malachi leaves too soon and his team trades a top center to get a better player at his position.

And how does staying at SU another year give him a better opportunity to earn a second contract? Some on this board assume that staying in college definitely results in a higher draft slot and somehow magically guarantees a second contract. Simply not factual, pure speculation.

He's either going to prove himself in three years or not. The extra year in college means nothing to whether he signs a second contract or not.

He could show an NBA skill for one.

Malachi's NBA teams transactions has nothing to do with if he left early or not.

Every NBA team makes moves around 1-2 players. Unless he's one of those 1-2 players, it's going to happen. It's happened to every one of our players not named Melo.

I agree with your second to last sentence

Shot blocking, rebounding, and three point spot up range.

And your rebuttal will be... Ability to dribble to create his shot, strength, and quickness on defense.

And my rebuttal to your rebuttal will be- I AGREE. And nobody goes to the league outside the legit like top 3 who can do it all.

I'm not sure why people are jumping off a bridge about next year already. I believe we have 2 legit scorers who should improve even more this summer - and even better, one is a big man and one is a guard. The top of the zone with Howard/Battle should be way better than this year.

We have some young question marks - but shouldn't we wait to see what Brisset/Moyer/Sidibe have before we call next season a waste? For all we know they could all come in and contribute. More is riding on Howard - but I think perhaps without looking over his shoulder he'll play looser.

I'm excited to see a bunch of young guys next year that will hopefully be around for a while in Brisset/Moyer/Sidibe/Washington. Because guess what? If those 4 guys look like contributors and JB gets a good recruiting class for 2018, the groundwork is set.

Battle has the ability and mindset to be a 1st team-all-ACC type guy next year. Let's see if he gets even better this summer. I honestly expect both him and TT to leave after next year.

I do think we need at least 1 grad transfer who could slide in on the wing. But IMO this time last year things looked way worse.
Lucky to go .500 if Frank plays much

I think he's making the right move, but I doubt he'll be much of a shot blocker in the NBA

He's not an NBA shot blocker and he's had the yips against college competition. A 6'10" guy closing on him won't go well today. Hopefully one day it can

This is why I posted earlier that threads like this are fun because it reveals which people don't really understand the NBA.

He played 40 minutes a game mostly at center. He's not going to the NBA to rebound. His three point reluctance has been evident.

Rebounding correlates from college to the NBA more than any stat so that probably only helps him.

Let's address the Dungey to the NFL thing, and why my thought there isn't crazy if he stays healthy and has a good season.

- history of season ending injuries

- 25+ starts under his belt across three seasons (this is a lot of film, NFL scouts like that, plus over that progression of time his growth should be evident)

- numbers, numbers, numbers in this system

- if Syracuse gets to a bowl he has a nice narrative about turning us back in to a winner

- thanks to the Babers connection he has a ready made NFL comp in Garappolo

Put that all together, and if Dungey performs well, stays healthy, and leads a winning team he will absolutely be justified in thinking that it's time for the NFL and there will be some interest. And given the injury history, he should not sacrifice his body and take any more hits as an unpaid collegian if he can be fairly compensated by the NFL as an early entrant QB. Heck, that may even extend his career since he'd almost certainly be a backup and save his body from a bunch of abuse for a while.

I didnt want to read 14 pages. Can someone confirm whom between Rothstein and Boeheim was right about the agent? Has Lydon issued a statement, and/or a tweet?
