Lydon to hire agent and enter NBA draft

How the heck do these other programs manage it? Are our guys so different from everyone else's? At some level, I think these situations are a second recruitment and perhaps Boeheim's "you aren't good enough" isn't quite the winning pitch. No doubt it's not all or even mostly Boeheim's fault but his approach to this now seemingly annual issue clearly isn't working and yet he's still doing it.

Unfortunately, "too stubborn to change" has become a running theme for our head man.

This makes more sense. I won't pass judgment on whether he should leave or not, because I don't know the answer.

What I would pass judgment on is him giving up the ability to come back before getting the pre-draft assessment. I think that would be a horrible decision.

It's always weird to me that a bunch of relatively successful, intelligent adults clutch their pearls at the thought of questioning the logic of some college-aged kid.

Leaving school early, whatever. Reasonable minds can disagree.

Foreclosing the possibility to return to school when a first-round pick isn't a certainty and there's no benefit gained by hiring an agent at this early stage? Stupid. And I question the motives of anyone who pretends otherwise.

I'm not sure why people are jumping off a bridge about next year already. I believe we have 2 legit scorers who should improve even more this summer - and even better, one is a big man and one is a guard. The top of the zone with Howard/Battle should be way better than this year.

We have some young question marks - but shouldn't we wait to see what Brisset/Moyer/Sidibe have before we call next season a waste? For all we know they could all come in and contribute. More is riding on Howard - but I think perhaps without looking over his shoulder he'll play looser.

I'm excited to see a bunch of young guys next year that will hopefully be around for a while in Brisset/Moyer/Sidibe/Washington. Because guess what? If those 4 guys look like contributors and JB gets a good recruiting class for 2018, the groundwork is set.

Battle has the ability and mindset to be a 1st team-all-ACC type guy next year. Let's see if he gets even better this summer. I honestly expect both him and TT to leave after next year.

I do think we need at least 1 grad transfer who could slide in on the wing. But IMO this time last year things looked way worse.

Personnel-wise, you make a good case.

I think things look worse today than last year because we did have the Final Four run. Now we're coming off 15 losses and all indications are that we're sliding.

But he has to go, he is just going to get worse by coming back to school next year.

He won't get worse but his draft stock certainly could. There is also the risk of major injury. I think unless my family was very wealthy I'd be sending my kid to the NBA if they were a lottery pick.

No, I was jumping off a bridge last year as well once Mali declared. I knew we weren't going to be good.

If your a lottery pick yes, if your a fringe first round pick, no.

Ivan Rabb is slotted at 22 on Draftexpress. One spot higher than Lydon. That's good right?

We all were, until we got Gillon and White, then we started to dream of a national title, we need another Gillon and White, and another player.

Ya, the more guys who pass him the better, maybe he will have 2nd thoughts.

Then explain Harry Giles. Was the consensus number 1 pick before he played this year. He came back and played after his injury and now is projected to go behind Lydon in a bunch of mocks.

He never had a chance to be drafted before his injuries.

IF he hires an agent, then it's irrelevant what kind of 2nd thoughts he has afterwards.

PS - Brian, dude - you don't have to be the Syrfan autoreply feature on all the "player x may declare for the draft" threads.:p
Seriously.

More evidence that you should leave when you can. Rabb was projected about the same spot as Robert Williams is this year, returned to school, and is now fighting to be a 1st round pick along with Lydon.

Edit: I really don't get why everyone freaks out about one kid returning to school. Basically every school goes through the same exact situation that we go through, and every once in awhile, a school gets lucky like Oklahoma State did with Marcus Smart and A&M now is going to with Robert Williams. Or like how California and Syracuse got lucky to have Rabb and Lydon return for sophomore seasons.

Personally I think it is more about the players not wanting to stay and play in this system. Just my opinion. I believe Boeheim's advice is usually sound and fair assessing their prospects at the next level.

He never had a chance to be drafted before his injuries.

But had he sat out this year he and could go would out showing he was healthy and athletic he is likely in the mid to back half of the lottery. By playing and not showing that same dynamic game he had in highschool he has lost position.

Just throwing it out there but the only upperclassman in this year's lottery projection is Justin Jackson.

Last year, four and the year before that, two.
