Make the change now

That didnt use to be true. We played many a 9:00 p.m. start in the old Big East days.
After Saturdays debacle I decided to stay home. Couldn’t find anyone to take my seats either for similar reasons. I would much rather would have the extra 45 minutes of sleep than watch us lose another close one because we were completely inept. If we were 15-3 going into last night I am probably there.

I feel you. I similarly skipped out on the last 2 football home games rather than drive 4 hours each way.

It’s been declining steadily since before COVID. Now the drop-off is happening. And it’s a LOT harder to bring back season ticket holders than to keep them.

Let’s be real, it’s been dicey since after the first year we joined the ACC, save some fun NCAA runs.

We’ve been in the ACC 12 years, not counting this season.

7 out of those 12 have had .500 or lower winning percentages in conference. Anyone want to wager what this year will be?

The first year we were a 3 seed. But we’ve made the NCAAT four other times since as an 8 seed, 10 seed and 11 seed 2x.

This decline has been long. And to his credit, JB made this program into one that was just a level below the blue bloods, so some of it is being a victim of our previous success.

But it’s been long. And while the tourney runs were fun, there was the second probation and Hop thing, the having to hire Red and now the inevitable conclusion to not doing a national search is at our doorstep.

Relieve Red now. Let engelstad be interim. Start the search now for who JW has on his list.

Sure he was. Senior year he scored 17 PPG with 6 APG and 5 RPG. 2 times All-Big East, in an era when the conference was loaded.

Yeah. No need to make stuff up. Red was great. He’s one of my top ten fave Cuse players. Followed him since he was in high school. Dude could play.

Let’s keep the coaching situation and his playing days separate.

it's already been stated many times but it's too early to write off an entire season and secondly there is nobody on the bench better to take over the reins. firing midseason does nothing to better this season and sends a bad message to the potential hire.

No one talked about him being great before they felt guilty about saying he is a terrible coach

He was good
can you even imagine scrawny su guard jim boeheim trying to guard red autry one on one ? as Arlo guthrie would say it'd be a MASS-A-CRAY ! (jb would be taping his eyeglasses back together after the game. )
but playing and coaching are 2 different things.

I don't remember but also back then there was tons of parking near the dome.

Games were also in and out in 2 hours. I looked at the clock at the final buzzer last night, 11:22 pm.

God bless those of you that go. No thank you.

I don't think there's anything to gain by canning Red before the end of the season. Make him play out the string.

That said, JW better have a contract 99% complete by the end of the month for three different names and waiting for a signature from the next head coach. I'm 100% certain that there is a war for HCs going on right now and SU cannot afford to miss out. I can potentially see at least UK kicking tires and especially if there are not-quite-a-surprise retirements like Self, Izzo or Altman.

The evaporation of good defense is a mystery. First few games of this season we played D like hounds. Recently we've played D like lost puppies.
Couldn't agree more with this. I was so encouraged at the beginning of the year with the aggressiveness of the defense. The past 3 games, at the very least, they look like 45 year old pickup ball at the local Elementary school with 10 minutes left before the janitor kicks them out. It's absolutely maddening to me!

Retirements will be our biggest competition so hopefully they hold off a year. Also hopefully UK and UNC don't do anything rash this Spring.

Its over, they have 7 losses. Its time to start acting like a serious program. Literally you can find someone to take over and do better than this.

I was in the boat to let him finish the season and was targeting around March 10 when ACCT ends since we were 12-6 and not 6-12.

I do not think it will happen today 1/22/26, there is a game in about 50 some hours on Saturday.

However, I do believe if things continue trending, they could announce in February that he will not be retained and he will have the option to finish out the season. That is about the earliest I could predict an announcement.

I have no problem with making the decision now. But at the same time, hasn't the football program shown that winning is the only thing that'll make the fans show up? And if WIldhack isn''t already having back channel communications with the agents of prospective candidates, then he really isn't the right person for this job.
One of the things Wildhack has repeatedly stated is that he constantly maintains a succession list for every sport in his portfolio and has formal and informal conversations about those lists with members of the media and other ADs. In today’s day and age I am sure agents are part of that circle of trust.

Mike Tirico: “Have you seen John Wildhack’s Rolodex?!!”

Relieve Autry of his duties today. There’s nothing to lose by doing it. There is some to gain. You might actually get more fans showing up the rest of the way. Keep him and no one is going to show up the rest of the way.
Doing that probably isn’t a way to attract the better coaches. Coaches don’t really like universities who will fire coaches without cause during a season. It isn’t a lure to attract the best candidates. The best candidates are usually employed and hopefully don’t impulsively quit their university and their players midseason either.

I gave up at 1030 watching at home
