Make the change now

6. I have to imagine that Melo will be intensly involved in the search for our new coach, and be a big help in pulling in someone good.
Mike Woodson you are hired. Would it be bad though? Feature Kiyan. I know he didn’t have great success at Indiana, but maybe with Alex Kline as GM and a good roster around Kiyan that would generate excitement in the fan base and help rebuild the brand. We would literally be like an off brand New York Knicks kind of vibe.

Mike Woodson is terrible!!! More mediocrity and 68 friggin years old.

1..Building a team from scratch is not as big of a deal anymore with the NIL/portal world. Tons of players out there each season, and many teams lose a lot of players. Our analytics team is really good at this.
2. A new coach will have relationships already with players and might bring a core group with them.
3. Stop with the "they are paid employees" They are still the same 18, 19, 20 year olds they were when they were not getting paid. It is not like we are the only ones paying our players. They all are getting paid, but their skill levels don't necessarily change just because they get a pay check. I get that you want their motivation to change though.
4. The window to hire a new coach will be very slim, so we DO need someone immediately. I am sure that the powers that be know this, and are working that roledex. If due dilligence is done in advance, Wildhack should have a short list, and about 5 days to talk to the candidates and make a decision. Plenty of time for the portal.
5. The new coach and Wildhack need to talk to the players we want most along with their families to try to keep them if they fit the new system.

7. Let's not forget that this is not fun for Red. He might take the high road, and step down early for "personal reasons" Also because he is one of us...Orange.
Good post but #7 is never going to happen and nor should it. The employer needs to make this move, not the employee.

No to Mike Woodson...
And maybe I might be in the minority, I don't want Melo anywhere near the coaching search. Sure, keep him involved with information, but I don't want him making any decisions. I want to do what is best for Syracuse long term, not what is best for the Anthony's in the short term.

I don't say that he would do it for a bias for his son, but for the program he is an integral part of the history. He knows people and can make introductions. I guess I didn't mean he would be part of a decision, but of a vehicle to talk to potential coaches he might know.

Don’t see a big difference on the timing. It’s more about doing the search the right way.

I’m totally fine with Melo being super involved in the process. He’s our most well known and successful player by a long shot. All else being equal he’s a positive for recruiting, brand awareness, etc. Maybe he doesn’t have a huge pull, but we need all the help we can get.

Incidentally he seems way more comfortable with his son coming off the bench than JB was with his kids. It’s a terrible look if Kiyan transfers, Cuse can’t blow that. If Kiyan staying means Melo involved in these decisions, that’s fine in my book
