Marrone doesn't waver on Quarterbacks

No we're not. Ryan Nassib is a top line QB starter. He's broken the school record for passing yards in a season and he has a really admirable TD/Int ratio. You may want him to be a superstar, but you can't say he isn't a top line starter.

Define "top line," because I don't think that most SU fans would agree with your assessment.

I don't dismiss the passing statistics you reference, but let's be honest--we throw a LOT more now than we used to. Marvin Graves was a top line starter. Donovan McNabb was a top line starter. Don McPherson was a top line starter. Even Todd Philcox was a top line starter his 5th year. Nassib might have better yardage stats than those players, but each one of them played at a much higher level of effectiveness.

And I'm pro-Nassib.

Well, in college, the QB running and scrambling is part of QB skills. I think most people think Broyld is probably better than Nassib in that category. So in some cases, Broyld may very well have better skills at QB than Nassib. And Nassib, while I think he physically has the skills to run, he does not seem to have the instinct to know when to run or when to stay. He's slow on making the decision and that has killed him. I hope he has improved over last year.

Wasn't his decision to make. Was told not to run last year.

And I agree with this that he said: "Who has been given a chance to play? Are you basing it on the spring game? Unless you have a source in the program or watch practice everyday I don't think you are qualified to make that assessment (Sounds a bit harsh but a lot of people on this board aren't qualified to make the statements they do). "

So it's surprising that he is writing off Broyld playing QB this year ...even though we know (because Marrone said so) that Marrone wants Broyld on the field. Does anyone really think Nassib is so solid (some in this thread compared him to Brady) that he will have no competition at QB? Did you see the games last year? And please, enough about the line. I saw plenty of bad throws that had nothing to do with the line play.

Yes, Nassib is so solid he will have no competition at QB. Broyld will not be playing QB. He might get some pass attempts on QB throwbacks like the spring game. He won't be taking snaps from Macky though.

As for all the comments about "hype"...not sure what that means. Marrone said he wants Broyld on the field. That's not hype. I haven't seen anyone claiming Broyld should start at QB...that would be hype.

Ryan is what he is.

We know he is going to land somewhere between 60%-65% completion percentage most likely.

We know that he is going to get hit... a LOT. Probably to the tune of 25-35 sacks.

Hopefully he can get to 25 TD passes (had 22 last year) and keep his INTs under 10.

He has some trouble on the long throws. He has some trouble on his touch. I think he may be given the green light to use his legs more this year, but who knows.

He isn't one of the elite QBs SU has had. But he is not an incompetent QB. Some people on here think he is NFL caliber (I do not) and some think Marrone has squeezed all he can out him. Whatever the case, Ryan is a known commodity in terms of what he will likely be able to give us.

I think our best chance at improvement has to start with improved OL play. Sales needs to play at a consistently good level to give Ryan another weapon. I think our D needs to force some TOs.

Good post--sums it up very well.

"Wasn't his decision to make. Was told not to run last year."

There were times when he HAD to run...and he was always about a second late with that decision. He was never really told not to run...they just didn't design a lot of running plays for him. We have been told that will change...and that will take some of the decision-making away from Nassib and I think he will be able to run better for that reason.

As for Broyld, I bet he takes more than a few snaps under center this year.

Wow, I cannot even believe that this was posted. First off, running skills at the QB position do not even come close to being important. We have a RB for a reason; all the QB needs to do is be able to evade pursuit sometimes. Second, we are in a pro-style offense hoss. Perhaps you don't understand what the means, but here's a hint (the QB doesn't run the ball). To even say that Broyld may have better QB skills than Nassib ruins any sort of credibility you have in my book. I can't even fathom how idiotic that statement was, wow. Brolyd did a decent job this spring, AT RB AND WR, NOT QB. This kid may get a couple of snaps this season, but he will see 99% of his snaps at RB or WR. and please, the wildcat (stallion) does not count as the QB position since most schools have a RB playing there in that formation. As far as hype goes...yes, there are some posters here that are hyping Broyld up to be the second coming God for this program when he has not even set foot in the Dome on game day yet. Nassib is FAR and AWAY the best QB on this team.

What statements are you saying are "idiotic". Please point them out. This one? "I think most people think Broyld is probably better than Nassib in that category." Do you disagree with that? Do you really think Nassib is a better runner than Broyld? Do you disagree that Marrone said he would put in more plays where the QB will run the ball? Do you disagree that Marrone said he wants Broyld on the field? Or, are you in agreement with the person who compared Nassib to Brady? And what post represents this statment: "as far as hype goes...yes, there are some posters here that are hyping Broyld up to be the second coming God for this program" Wow...second coming of God? Really? I have not seen anyone even saying Broyld should be the starter let alone creator of the universe.

You stated that Broyld may have better QB skills than Nassib does. That is an idiotic statement. And then you take my exaggeration seriously; by chance are you in politics? You like to spin things to your liking. There are posters on here that believe Broyld should be the starters this year. If not, they sure act like it. Oh, Broyld can throw a better deep ball. Broyld is a better runner, so we should switch to the spread just for him. Both of those are arguments I have seen on here, and there are plenty of others that I cannot recall (someone even made a memes with a Nike Witness sign for God's sake). The kid has the POTENTIAL to be a great player, but I highly doubt it will be at QB. When Marrone said there would be more running involved in the offense this year he had Hunt in mind, not Broyld. Broyld will play at the skill positions.

Nope. What I said was this, "Well, in college, the QB running and scrambling is part of QB skills. I think most people think Broyld is probably better than Nassib in that category. So in some cases, Broyld may very well have better skills at QB than Nassib." - I stand by that and really, let's face it...you agree that Broyld can run better than Nassib.

Please, show us a post from posters who say Broyld should be the starter. I haven't seen any. Same goes for changing the entire offensive plan just for Broyld. It's your prism working overtime.

Someone on this thread compared Nassib to Brady. Gee...you don't call that out as hype.

Broyld was recruited to play QB. Marrone wants him on the field. Broyld, by your own admission can run (unless you think a RB or WR does not have to be able to run) so why mock people who say Broyld can run. And when Marrone said the QB will run more, he didn't have Hunt in mind...that's idiotic...he had Nassib in mind .

Yes. Broyld will play in a skill position. One of them is QB.
