McCord

That is what makes him unique in the draft class in that he was everything you could’ve asked for a decade ago. Hopefully the program that takes McCord allows him to hold the leadership role that he did at Cuse because that seems to be what brings out the best in him and the program. He has franchise QB vibes.
I think once he gets in 1on 1 workouts opinions will change. Fran after a game where Kyle made a big run for a 1st down.
He said that's the Kyle I watched growing up.
I believe Kyle can run but choses to wait as long as he needs to make a play.
That ability to wait until the last second can make or break a play.
I believe that ability is why we were so successful on 4th downs. That is why we went for it so often.

How many games did Watson play the year he had the record must be 15 when they won it all or year before when they lost?

Realistically it’s not likely that another year will improve his stock. The NFL scouts have already seen all they need. They know his strengths and weaknesses. If he returns, given a tougher schedule and no Gadsden, Meeks or possibly Allen, it will be very hard for him to match, let alone exceed, this year’s performance. And there’s always the chance of injury. To top it off, this year’s qb class is considered to be weak. Next year’s will almost certainly be more talented, so even if he has another great year he may not actually improve his draft level.

on the ACC All-Access pre-season Cuse episode Kyle was in a golf cart with teammates playing golf (Maybe Barron?) Someone made a Star Wars reference and Kyle admitted he’d never seen any Star Wars films because as a kid all he did was watch football film.

At that moment I realized he was a cut above.

Freakin’ loved having that kid lead our program. I really hope he comes back.
Said he didn't sleep for like a week after that Stanford game too

There is no way he doesn't fly up boards between now and the draft. Late 2nd early 3rd just bc teams are obsessed with mobile QBs and all the current elite guys do have wheels. A decade ago he goes 1st round no questions asked.
Very true about a decade ago. I think Kyle is the ideal QB2 for most NFL teams for exactly that reason.

After these mobile QBs get their head taken off being dumb running the ball downfield on NFL defenses they all need a Kyle to come in and steady the offense. Read defenses, Short quick passes and taking what the defense gives.

On the other hand, if the OL is better next year that'll go a long way. The lack of time to throw against Pitt is the main reason McCord struggled, imo.

I actually think it didn’t have much to do with OL

Pitt did a phenomenal job with game planning for that game.

You could hear and see the players calling out the plays at Pitt before they were even snapped.

The OL play didn’t help, but that was more on excellent prep by Pitt, in my opinion

Agreed. We got a little too comfortable with our passing game and Pitt learned McCord go to short routes. From that game forward, the passing has been more unpredictable and more running balanced earlier in the game.

Well he gets to enter the year on draft boards.

I saw one this summer where Kyle and CDRW were 2 spots apart in the 30s for QB draft rankings. Ohio State killed his draft stock and the narrative was anyone off the street could throw to Harrison Jr and ekugba.

I think he's too good to truly regress. But this draft class is awful. Carson Beck Shadeur Cam Ward come on... If it was me I'd want to be put head to head vs them.

2025 should be a development year with Frans first team that isn't mostly Dino guys much younger squad try and get 6 wins and make it to Fenway and know 2026 we can easily be in the playoffs. Hopefully we retain McCord and are in every game but it's not the end of the world if it's not meant to be. Definition of a house money situation after getting 10 wins this year.

If this has been posted, apologies, but I haven't noticed a lot of talk about this, so I thought I'd post the following:

Kyle McCord, the quarterback for Syracuse, will play in the 100th East-West Shrine Bowl on January 30, 2024 in Dallas, Texas:

The game will take place at AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys. McCord accepted the invitation to play in the pre-NFL Draft All-Star game as a showcase for players who are hoping to be selected in the 2025 NFL Draft. It is the 100th time the game has been played.
  • Shrine Bowl All-Century Team
Three Syracuse standouts, John Mackey, Larry Csonka, and Art Monk, were named to the East-West Shrine Bowl All-Century Team. All three went on to have Pro Football Hall of Fame careers.
The East-West Shrine Bowl is an annual all-star game that features college players from across the country. Players are selected based on their potential to make NFL rosters, and the Mississippi River is generally used to divide the players into the East and West teams. The game and its practice sessions attract many scouts from professional teams.

His play will be noticed by scouts from many teams and will have an effect on his draft position. If he plays well, it can't help but raise his status. The number of snaps the coaches let him take will also obviously effect his status. Other QB's listed are the following:
  • Shedeur Sanders: Colorado quarterback and likely top NFL Draft pick
  • Kyle McCord: Syracuse player
  • Tyler Shough: Louisville player
  • Kurtis Rourke: Indiana player
  • Mark Gronowski: South Dakota State player
  • Max Brosmer: Minnesota player
The four Syracuse players who will be on the East team for the 2025 East-West Shrine Bowl are:

  • Kyle McCord: Quarterback
  • Oronde Gadsden II: Tight end
  • Fadil Diggs: Defensive end*
  • Alijah Clark: Safety

The 100th East-West Shrine Bowl will take place on January 30, 2025 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The game is the longest-running college football all-star game in the country.

Players are selected for the East-West Shrine Bowl based on their potential to make NFL rosters. The selection process takes into account a consensus from the 32 NFL teams. Players are usually assigned to the East or West teams based on whether they are from east or west of the Mississippi River.

The game and the practice sessions leading up to it attract many scouts from professional teams.

* Whether Fadil Diggs can play depends on his health/injury. Does anyone know how severe or what his status is?

The East-West Shrine Bowl is an opportunity for college football players to showcase their talents to NFL scouts and executives. The teams are made up of players from colleges across the country, including college seniors and underclassmen who have declared for the NFL Draft. If only teams from east of the Mississippi are invited, the teams will be made up of players from those schools.

The East-West Shrine Bowl is the oldest college football all-star game in the country. It was created in 1925 by the Shriners and supports Shriners Hospitals for Children. The game and practice sessions attract scouts from all 32 NFL teams.

For what it’s worth everyone at the bowl game was consistently stating it’s a 50-50 shot. It’s the party line right now. seems like we got extra external help with the appeal that we didn’t use with the initial waiver.

I’m still of the belief he comes back if he gets the extra year. I assume we will hear early in the new year.

Like 12:01?

At the Bowl Game, I got the feeling SU seems to think he has a good chance to get another year of eligibility. Campanile said in the elevator that they have to determine what’s best for Kyle. I told him look what the extra year did for Joe Burrow? He wasn’t on draft boards until he led LSU to a national championship.

One thing that would bother me if I was the NCAA is McCord saying that he would like the option of either returning to college or going to the NFL. I'm sure that is true. But if you are asking the NCAA to go out on a limb for you, change the way they have always done things, Why on earth would they do that if you were to turn around and go to the NFL anyway? They would just be setting themselves up to be appealed again and again by other guys.
Yeah, I thought about this the other day. I think it's very possible he's talking about the nfl because that very well may be his only option and doesn't want it to look like it isn't what he wanted if the ncaa denies the appeal. If he gets a waiver, I think he already knows at this point he's coming back. Just my guess.

I hate Narduzzi but he is 10-1 coming off a bye. The dude can REALLY coach defense.

I think if he does get the waiver. The only reason that he wouldn’t come back to Syracuse is if they have reason to believe he would be put into a position to play right away in the NFL. The dude is in his prime athletic career and seems to passionately love playing football and be the leader wherever he is. He knows he will have that here for sure if he gets to comeback. The NFL is a different story. Financially, NIL makes it much less of an issue. Also a smart guy, heck I’m sure Fran would hire him on staff if he needs that opportunity ever in the future. The NFL is a dream of his, but also I think it’s not just being on the roster, but actually playing. So I think if they ultimately determine his best chance to be an NFL starter is starting at Syracuse next year vs being a backup in the NFL next year, the decision would be Syracuse. But if there is reasonable assurance he can start in the NFL next season, he should and probably will be told to go.

The odds of him playing himself into a first/second round pick next year are lower than him playing himself into a UFDA deal.
UFDA?

Do you mean UFA (Undrafted Free Agent)?*

* - yes, I know that people use UDFA, but it really should be UFA.

Correct. But the feedback so far is that he won't which is why a return to Cuse is a very good option, esp with the $ he can earn before going all in nfl.
