McCords season

Hurray, you get to be right to detriment of fans enjoyment. Thank goodness DM doesnt have bear the pain of fan board commenters cheering on a good player
Correct. I know McNabb was by far the better QB.

Hurrah.

difficult when you're comparing QB's numbers . cuz you gotta factor in the lines they played behind, the backs they could hand off to , the receivers they threw to and the schemes they played under. best metric probably is leadership and did they elevate their team to national championship caliber and give them a chance to beat anybody they faced every game.
McNabb , Graves and Donnie mac all did that. McCord's yet to prove it here,

Not a good night for this discussion.
Why? He came down to earth. He had games earier in the season where interceptions were dropped, tonight they weren't. Some of it was that his WRs couldn't get an inch of separation. Some of it was that the oline couldn't keep him protected. Some of it was that he sometimes takes chances. Some of that is probably because he has no running game to help him. This was going to happen when we got to some of the better teams on the schedule. He's still really really good and this team will go as far as he can take us. He just isn't the greatest we've ever had that some people wanted to prematurely make him into.

People will be upset you're being fair and reasonable.

Dude throws 50 passes a game with a dumpster oline. I told people last week we haven't seen pressure like Pitt yet and some on here acted like it wouldn't matter. Good call to those folks. Lol

To be fair, Pitt also dropped about 3 other potential ints.

There was a dude telling me that McCord might be the best college QB of all time. He could easily be the next Tom Brady. Was comparing him to Payton Manning too. No joke. I love McCord. Without him we don’t win a game outside of Holy Cross but there are literally people who say these things on this board. It’s a good indication of our society.

People need to rewatch the 1998 Tennessee game. Ignore the final result and just pay attention to the magic McNabb created in that game to put into perspective how great he was. The play where he shrugs off an unblocked blitzing LB before completing a pass. Then another where he scrambled and hurdled a guy on his way to turning a negative play into a gain. And he completed something like 75% of his passes for 300 yards.

I don't know how he's going to get through the Kyle McCord show on Cuse Sports Talk next week considering the vast majority of the show is always him being asked about the prior game.

Well he’s a professional at this point so it should be his job to
Do it. He is paid a lot to win games at Syracuse

Agreed just saying it's gonna be rough. And this is uncharted waters for him. He's never had a game this bad before.

Did Fran leave him in just to keep his 300 yard passing streak alive? If that is the case that concerns me a little in terms of big picture/little picture.

Did anyone ask or did Fran explain why he kept Kyle in?

Yes and his response was "miracles happen". Which is even more concerning as it infers he believes we could have won the game in the fourth.

Scouts definitely look at stats and competition. How do you think people like Jamarcus Russel, Dwayne Haskins, and Brady Quinn become day 1 picks? they of course have high tier criteria, but you’d be hard pressed to see a guy dropping 4K yards against NFL level DBs, even with NFL level receivers, and saying this kid can’t play at the next level.
So, by your criteria, last nights game took McCord from a Day 1 pick to undraftable, right?

Re Kyle and the NFL, I still think he can get a look as a late round draft pick or UDFA and stick. One game doesn't ruin a career, but it definitely didn't help.

However, he's averaging almost 50 attempts per game. My personal feelings on that much imbalance in an offense notwithstanding, what it means is as we progress to some teams that will be primed is that it's 50 attempts for a defense to get a shot on Kyle.

We aren't switching to a balanced O, and I'm not sure what the % of plays that are passes are McCord checking into something he sees at the line and out of the original play call, but McCord has to:

1) Get better at moving in the pocket (climbing the ladder, slide left and right, etc)... he's getting cement feet at times in conjunction with locking in on a single WR. His eyes are connected to his feet in the wrong way at times. I get it, we don't have Jeremiah Smith at WR or OSU's OL, but he has to move better in the pocket for his own safety and his potential draft appeal.

2) Building off that -- he has to stop reversing out. Has to. He is going to get blindsided as he reverses out one time and going to get crushed and injured/concussed.

The one part of having a gun for hire (and believe me, I would do the Kyle signing 100 times out of a 100) is that there has to be a fast forward on trusting his WRs and OL versus building over years. The latter which are average in the best of times.

I would love if we had Zeed back, if Hatcher was more consistent, etc. I would love if our OL would level up. But it's not happening this year. McCord has to do better in the pocket because we aren't improving our offensive positions as a whole during this year.
