Mike Lindsley goes toe to toe with Doug Gottlieb

Haven't been to the sweet 16 since 02-03? Really Mike?

Sounded like a teenage fan whining about getting no respect. While Dougie started off a little combative, I can't disagree with any of his points.

I thought the arguement itself was a C-. I liked that he brought it up, and i thought DG explained himself fine. It felt like after the first question or 2 ML was reaching to hard to get DG to retract the soft schedule statement. I mean it is DG's opinion we have a soft schedule which is fine. I would have liked 10 mins of DG talking about our team not our schedule

Give him a grade, what else should he have said?

Lindsley sounds like a petty little kid starving for respect. I think he was taken aback when Gottlieb called which I can understand- he wasn't quite prepared. But somebody asked him why he didn't bring up our #1 RPI rating ,which was as legitimate a question as there could be, and instead of saying he didn't think of it, he got defensive and said" I'm pretty sure that Gottlieb would know that." Well, the whole gist of Gottlieb's contention is that SU doesn't play "anybody."So, the perfect response would be #1 RPI.

The good news is that Lindsley lands some good guests. The bad news is that he does not prepare well for his interviews, and even worse, doesn't think well on his feet. Look at how he handled the interview yesterday with the DeMatha hoops HC (as OE rightly pointed out).

He is, IMHO, a poor interviewer.

This is what sports media is these days. Sensational fandom. We just listened to two people who simply look at the game as fans get defensive for being taken to task.

The only part that even resonated for me was when DG said Lindsley sounded like a stupid fan for asking if he hated 'Cuse, then turned to defend the "they haven't played anybody" comment with "well, it is TV."

Radio and TV aren't different in terms of sports coverage anymore. Both comments are over the top and silly.

Don't forget that DG is paid, in part, to be controversial. Other than the hoops punditry, he's also attempting to garner interest in his afternoon radio show (not aired on Syracuse's affiliate, but available elsewhere and online).

I think this conversation never happens if DG simply says that SU hasn't played another top team this year, (although Florida was supposed to be one). The #1 SOS ranking is something even JB doesn't believe, (I suggested on his show they were counting the practices). The big thing I disagree with is the idea that who you play in November and December effects how you play in March. I think it could effect how you play in January but by march we are certainly battle tested.
