MLB postseason thread

I'd love that.

I'd be surprised, but I've been wrong before.

"At the end of this season, Votto will have eight years and $179 million remaining on the 10-year, $225 million contract he signed with the Reds a couple of years ago. The deal includes an option for $20 million in 2024 with a $7 million buyout. The first baseman turns 33 on September 10."

"As for the Jays, I would not assume the risk of the aging Votto. I know it would be great to add a national hero, but he will soon decline in performance. It’s not about the prospects, it’s about the money. Spend the money on a shorter-term deal for Encarnacion or for younger players in their prime."

Votto with Jays a good idea? Not so fast

I do expect to see Edwin with the Sox. The only way he stays with the Jays is if ownership decides it will increase the payroll but only if it resigns Edwin. (Rogers may not want to lost some of the brand equity it has gained in the past 2 years)

Not sure about Votto. It will be interesting to see if the Jays owner continues cheaping out, after leading the league in attendance and getting good local ratings on their own networks. If they don't increase payroll, Votto is not coming. Even if they do, Shapiro has bever been one to trade prospects. So it only gets done if the Reds really don't ask for much, other than taking on a contract.

Bautista is a /A, he's 36 and wants $150 M. Save it and pay Edwin instead. There's plenty of pop in that lineup without "The Official Hot Dog of the Toronto Blue Jays."

I don't dislike the guy but in all fairness pay Edwin instead Bautista for sure. No doubt.

Does anything look more helpless than Blue Jays swinging at breaking balls? If I was Francona, I wouldn't throw 'em another fastball for the rest of the series.

Bautista wanted $150M at the beginning of the year. His bill right now will be cheaper than Edwin's. He has regressed offensively, and has positional regression. At 35, looking to be a DH shortly, I think the max he gets from someone is 3/60. Bautista lost quite a bit of money this season.

Edwin, as a guess, may be looking at 4/100 or 5/120 - his contract will be karger in the end, which is understandable.

I think it's quite possible they end up with neither, and simply take the two 1st round sandwich picks as compensation. Shapiro looks for value in veteran contracts.

"This warning is on my hotel window in Cleveland:"

Maybe they don't have a/c in hotels in Cleveland?

I would not bet against the Indians, they are on a magic carpet ride.

I still want the Cubs to win the Series. And I want Pete Rose in the HOF. It's been long enough. All those steroid users for all those years did far greater damage to the game than anything Rose did. And Bud the AH Selig, who did absolutely nothing about them is being considered? That makes me want to vomit.

I have an opportunity to go to one or two World Series games in Cleveland. I'm a Cubs fan, and my contact agreed that I can get my money back if the Cubs don't make it. Do I go for Game 1 so I can be certain that I get to see them in the World Series (assuming they make it)? Or do I go for Game 6/7 and risk the series being decided in 4 or 5 games?

Jays in 7.

Hate their home fans though, no class.

If you were going as a neutral party, I'd say risk the series goes long and you go to 6 or 7; that would be amazing if you had no vested interest in the outcome. As a Cubs fan, I'd go to game 1. First world series game in 71 years or whatever it is?

Cleveland will get swept by Chicago. The only team that can beat the Cubs is the Dodgers.
I would go to game 1.

Cleveland doesn't have 3rd or 4th starting pitcher. Lackey would be the 2nd best SP on Cleveland and best pitcher on Toronto.

It's a short series, anything can happen. Cubs would be strongly favored over either AL team, I'd think.

I wonder if the Dodgers are the favorite in vegas. 3 of 5 at home, plus Hill and Kershaw will make 3 of those 5 starts.

(Nope, LA is still +136. Maybe I should place a bet...)
