Why no PT for the Mookster? Why do Tomaszewski (sp), Reese, Resavy, and NOLAN HART get PT before Mookie?!>

We're the #1 team in the US of A.

Boeheim is playing the bench. A lot.

We are taking care of business.

And yet the Board is in constant need of Mookie mania?

Oy.

I was thinking the same thing. I'm kinda convinced JB and him had a chat that resulted with Mook keeping his scholarship in exchange for being a practice player. If someone has some real insight please share.

I know a few games ago somebody who was close to the bench said JB asked Mookie to go in and Mook passed it on to a walk-on instead.

I'm guessing Mook would rather see a walk-on get in since the game is decided anyway.

Hes a fan favorite and has been for a few years. Not always for the best reasons but its still worth asking what happen to his place on the team.

ML Carr became a fan favorite with the Celtics in 80s. Never played at that point either.

I guess my point is "Who cares?" Maybe Mookie is enjoying the team thing, making his presence known at practice and having fun. Doesn't seem like a garbage time guy.

Kid probably lost his passion for the game. Imagine the expectations he came into his freshman year with. Now he's the three point chucker with 2 minutes left in a blowout. To top it off he has to watch his fellow classmate Kris Joseph be the star. Must be tough.

Just wants his scholarship and to move on with his life. I get it.

matt park said he choose not to go in

Agree the only thing you think of when you see mook is him spotting up and quicktriggering a three.

Theres just nothing else to his game that is scrappy or flows.
Sort of like Josh Wright.
Or maybe like Paul Harris hes in the wrong system.

I used to like when he came in.
Now you know hes ceiling is 2-4 from three. Never 3 for 3 with two coming from a screen wrap around.

If you watch him on the bench, he is definitely enjoying himself. Good for him

Mook has an aura about him. You just have to root for him. Hopefully he gets some more PT this year.

Some talented players would consider it an insult to be going out with the walk-ons for a few minutes of garbage time. Mookie is not good enough to crack the rotation on this year's Syracuse team, but he does have enough talent to start for Rutgers. My guess is that JB gave him the option of garbage time and Mookie passed. Mookie is a good kid and talent. He just is not talented enough to play on this team.

This is correct

From my limited observations from afar, it seems like a huge difference in Mookie's positive bench attitude and cheerleading persona this year vs. much more withdrawn and sulking last year. Is this fair to say for those who attend games regularly? If so, then Mook should be a fan favorite just for helping out the team, despite getting no PT. What a guy!

And he seems to have mastered the Jose Reyes role of doling out complicated handshakes to all his teammates.

Looks like he's having a blast - seems like a great teammate.

Yes, I LOVE the thing he does with Fab when Fab gets introduced. Fab moves pretty quick during that!

say whatever you want...but what happened with Mookie is pretty sad. he is a sort of punchline around here. Im not saying he should be playing or was given a raw deal, likely he doesnt have the skill set to play for this program in a meaningful fashion, however he could have somewhere else. he's going to look back at these years and regret that he didnt get to play and use his talents.

think about it, the guy is better at basketball than most of us are at anything..and he didnt get to use that . its sad.

Sure. That's what keeps you from being curious about the status and mindset of a player on the team. Oy gevalt. As long as you're #1, don't ask questions. Might jinx things. "Mookie Mania?" Is that what it's called when you care about the welfare of a player? We should have mania for all 26 on the roster.
...
Saddens me to see him languishing on the bench. I really wonder what the story is. I hope he's at peace with it. Probably the best shooter on the team, and we can't find pre-walk on minutes in pre-conference games? On one hand, he's eating a scholarship. On the other, if he's working hard in practice and preparing, it seems an insult to him.

He sould have transferred when he the chance. The writing was on the wall.

I would think mookie doesn't want to be in with the walk ons.

Look at what Fab Melo did in the offseason to shape his body and focus on his defensive capabilities foremost...

A boeheim team - this one and many before it - always starts with a focus on defense and strength/conditioning to play the defensive sets for extended period of time.

What has Mookie done two address either of his deficiencies in that regard?

- He's needed to bulk up to play in this league consistently. He simply hasn't done that.

- He actually makes an effort on D occasionally (when he does play now), but his history speaks for itself... and the lack of effort on D has been another nail in his coffin.

It's not rocket science.

Expectations on what you need to get playing time with Boeheim are well known.

If your plan is to be a frail, perimeter shooter that drains threes and slacks on defense, you shouldn't come to syracuse. It's a sure recipe for pine-riding.

I'm glad Mookie seems at peace with his role (or lack of role) at this point and he is no longer sulking, but as to how he got there?

The first place to look is in the mirror.

I think in their recruiting, the staff is a very good judge of talent. They obviously missed on Mookie. He would have been OK at a mid major but Big East level is a stretch. Wonder what other players could have taken that spot, although if Boeheim really needed the sholarship he could always have encouraged Mookie to transfer.

Wow, thanks man. I really needed someone to depress the Hell out of me right before Christmas.
