More Renovations?

Host 7 on 7 tournaments during HS vacations. Option to play w.lax games during hoops season. Let the soccer programs host indoor tournaments...seems like you could use the IPF at certain times to generate revenue and/or help make DG's monthly Porsche payments
Still don't need bleachers.

The last time SU hosted a 7 on 7 tournament, they used at least half a dozen fields at Hookway.

Not sure how big a tourney you can pull off if you only have 1 indoor field available. :noidea:

Doesn't have to be a big tourney, but like hoops has their elite team camps now, football could follow suit. You could also open some practices to donors/season ticket holders.

I just think it's short-sighted (common theme for SU Athletics) to not think about bleachers, or at least the ability to add them at a later time. Too many of SU's facilities have been done with little regard for the future- the reconfiguration of Manley a couple of years ago is a perfect example.

Seriously? Bashing SU for not wasting money on bleachers? What, people can't stand anymore to watch practice?

Yeah I'd like to know how many IPF's have bleachers in them. Probably close to zero. There is no need for them, especially when you already play in an indoor facility.

Exactly. I don't think there is any need for bleachers. I'm not sure I have seen any with them. And I strongly disagree with using the facility for other sports. It's supposed to be a football practice facility that football players can use anytime they want. We don't let the volleyball team play in the Melo Center.

Open up practices to donors & season ticket holders?

Don't we have a building on Irving Ave that can handle that?

Actually, that's where the VB team practices now. Suppose SU has a chance to land a concert in March during the ACC hoops tournament, but there is a conflict with w. lacrosse. Wouldn't it be nice to have an option to move lax to the IPF instead of passing on a revenue generator?

A lot of the new stadium proponents talked about how it would be for more than just SU sports, but if SU doesn't have alternate locations for practices, etc. then what happens? I just don't see what's wrong with leaving some flexibility for the future.

SU will NOT bump one of it's athletic programs for the sake of a concert again. Not since the "Bon Jovi" incident of 1989.

They bumped our Senior Day game up to 6:00 p.m. on a weekday afternoon two years ago so staff could have 60 more minutes to prepare for a monster truck event that was a week away.

Not a complete bump, but totally bush-league.

The LAX team lost a home game in 1989. Their game with Hopkins got "bumped" to Baltimore, meaning that Hopkins got two home games in a row in the series.

It was the only game the Gaits ever lost in three seasons (they went 42-1 from 1988-90).

Yeah, that's a lot worse.

I guess the basketball team was upset about the 1994 George Washington game being moved to Manley because of a home football conflict, but better to get bumped for another team than for a concert.

The amount of bleachers they would need would only be like 6-7 rows. You could get away with Temp bleachers you could roll in and set up , but that works if they have enough room on the sides of this IPF

The 1994 game against GW was on November 16. A Wednesday night. The football team played at home against Maryland on Nov 19.

The game wasn't moved because of a football conflict, or any other conflict that I can remember. The game was moved because the AD expected poor attendance for an early season game and he thought it would be "cool" to play a game back in smaller confines of Manley.

Why do they need 3-5k worth of bleachers? total waste of money
Rainy day at Fanfest or open practices (should they happen in the future) space for big groups of recruits and their families. Maybe 3-5K capacity is an overshot maybe 1-2k. but Its really quite a small cost for increased serviceability of the space especially if almost every HS Gym in the country can afford them.

I know there was no overlap between the games, but I remember some rub with the Maryland game and the NIT being incompatible and basketball getting kicked over to Manley. I think it had to do with the tournament structure, but I haven't got any proper links or anything.

Didn't realize the VB practiced there now. Well foot in mouth on that one. :) I guess I'm not opposed to having enough seating for recruits and donor events but I don't feel it's as much of a missed opportunity as you do.

I just don't want to get into a situation when the football players can't use the facility when they want to because that's why I donated to it.

Put the concert in the IPF as standing room only. Problem solved. But we don't do concerts in the Dome in March.
