Today went to a large degree how many of us thought it would go. Pitt leaned on their Oline and ran the ball. SU did the right thing and sat Shrader. The surprise was that Pitts leading rusher was out. The other surprise was that his replacement was actually getting more carries than Izzy until he got hurt and he was back.

SUs D played another unreal game. 45 was beyond fantastic as was Wax. Those two guys deserve medals for their play today. To think that we actually had a solid chance to win this game is crazy given how anemic our O has been since Shrader and Tucker got hurt. Yes, Tucker so for those that don't know he isn't even close to himself and hasn't been since the first game.

Our O this year has been based on Shrader and Tucker running the RPO. During our first game and again against UConn which is proving to be much better than expected we showed what our O was all about, and the results were dynamic. After the injuries and as those injuries became more and more pronounced, we started to fall apart. Losing the WR was also a big blow as he was turning into a threat.

For me today is simply the result of attrition. We don't have much depth at key positions and our inability to run the RPO exposes our OL and our WR corp.

On D I'm actually amazed at how well the guys have held up. Its beyond impressive. We are down three very important DL. Locket was critical. He was the one kid on D that I had hoped would stay healthy. In the beginning when White was shuffling between 6 DL kids, we were dominant. Now we are down to a true frosh a former walk on and a bunch of second team players. Still, they fight and hang tough which is a testament to coach White who has done an outstanding job.

Random points.

I'm not sure about our WR coach. Why. Because I have to question who he is playing. Not sure why Coper keeps getting reps. Not sure why the kids from Florida doesn't. Also, what is the deal with Q. Why doesn't he see the field.

Back up RBs. Again, how come they don't get any reps. Both have talent yet they don't get a carry. Why as tucker isn't close to 100%.

Wes. I'm sure he is a great kid, but he isn't ready and shouldn't be playing. Don't we have anyone else that can play that position. Isn't there another Oline person. seriously is he our best option.

Going forward we will not win another game if we can't run the RPO. We need to play field position, run clock and hope that the D holds. If Shrader plays, we have a chance in every game. If not, we should beat BC and finish with 7 wins.

Next year is actually looking good. The D will be in very good shape as we get so many kids back and they will be bigger and stronger. I hope that we can bring in a game ready DT and another corner.

On O we have to find a number one WR. Gadsen isn't it. He is a solid number two but he doesn't have the speed to be the guy. At RB we will be young but talented which leads me to our OL. Hopefully we land the kid we are pursuing at Center as we are super weak there. I don't care how Vet grades out he is better off at another position.

Coaches. I like Dr. Bob when he had a full team, he showed what he could do. Hes playing with less than a half deck and we simply can't make Chicken salad out of CSh..
Hes good and Beck is as well. I expect great things out of them next season.

Based on what I have seen I want the entire staff to stay together with the exception of the WR coach and I'm on the fence about him.

Final point. Don't stop looking for a punter because we don't have one.

Let's hope Shrader is ready next week. If Hes not really solid sit him and try to win the last two game.

Sad to see injuries ruin what was looking like a magical season.

People keep mentioning the RPO. Do they really mean the zone read? I can't remember the last time I saw Shrader hold the ball in Tucker's belly before pulling it to pass.

Yes i believe thats correct. Either way when Shrader isn't a threat to run its over. Secondarily when Tucker cant run it doesn't help.

They did it far more last year and it was a major weapon. I don't know that it's available now, though. Shrader and Tucker had a sweet two-man game going last year. It takes chemistry and coordination.

Attrition

Losing six starters for the season is devastating for our Program.

This is the first year for this O. Its a major change from last year. We lost our number 2 QB in the spring and Carlos has been here a few months getting limited reps. One of our top Oline was out and Tucker is banged up and has no history with Carlos. We are forced to play Mang and Wes and they are borderline D1 players. I doubt they would see any playing time with any other P5 team. We've lost way too much talent to injuries this year. Im actually shocked that we have been in each of these last two games with a chance late in each game.
At this point rest Shrader until he is able to run and try to win the last 2 games.

Wes. I'm sure he is a great kid, but he isn't ready and shouldn't be playing. Don't we have anyone else that can play that position. Isn't there another Oline person. seriously is he our best option.
He is a walking penalty and consistently puts us behind the eight ball. Isn't just once a game either. Needs to stop playing immediately. Couldn't have said it better.

The WR coach doesn’t choose who plays. That falls on Dino and OC, ultimately Dino. Our WR coach, Mike Johnson, has coached WR’s in the NFL and top college teams. He knows what he’s doing.

I'm pretty sure the WR coach has a say in who plays. OC too, but WR coach has input. I don't think we have enough good players at the position.

But were they doing RPO or zone read? Shrader and Tucker having a two man game isn't run/pass option (RPO) in and of itself. By itself that's zone read option. RPO has a passing option added. I haven't seen that.

We've lost way too much talent to injuries this year.
are you saying it’s an excuse? Injuries happen. It’s just more noticeable and stings more when the backups really stink. We play lots of tough teams every year in the ACC. What you’re asking for is an incredible amount of luck.

We need better depth. This isn’t 1987’s schedule.

People keep mentioning the RPO. Do they really mean the zone read? I can't remember the last time I saw Shrader hold the ball in Tucker's belly before pulling it to pass.
U ain’t kidding. Not since Dungey.

I agree. I think he was given a bad deck of cards lol.

Not to be a whiner, but what has Ligasheski done for our special teams. I haven’t noticed much of a change. Just saying.

I think 2 cents nailed it on the defense. Our DC is a miracle worker. Unfortunately, because they are the field so much they've been beat up.

Just a small note. ND beat the living poo out of Clemson. Both their running backs went over a 100. Clemson's D is loaded, and the ND O line just kicked their butts. A lot of folks said ND couldn't do that to a GOOD team.

Reading defenses is the biggest learning curve. I watch Lamar Jackson every Sunday. He's worth 230M according to the Ravens. He's not good at it.

I always thought Shrader had the option of rolling out and passing.

If he does, he doesn't use it. I'm guessing most of those are zone read option runs, but the coaches on here can correct me if I'm wrong.

Szmyt looks the closest to his Groza version we've seen since since his fresh,an year. The punting was improved by miles until the last couple games.

It's crazy how people refused to see any flaws when we were winning and now everything is no better than it ever was since we've lost some games. The truth is somewhere in the middle.

szmyt looks much better than miss yesterday not withstanding, maybe he got the ball one groove low on his driver?

Why is Tucker playing if he is as hurt as you say he is? Shouldn’t Dino be held accountable for putting Tuckers future in danger?
I think all players are dinged up this time of year, but I don’t believe Tucker has anything but some bumps and bruises. If you are correct and he really does have something that is holding him back I think Dino has some splayning to do.

Lots of wind in his face.

Hes able to play but hes limited. Its as plain as day.

COLBY YOUNG from an hour away , Binghamton is starting WR for Miami...why oh why didn't Syracuse grab him, he said there was not much interest from Syracuse...an hour away. Very depressing. This kid just last week win the best WR in the ACC

Because he wasn't from Texas or Hawaii
