So how much cap space will the Knicks have this offseason after the $41.5M come off the books from Jordan and Matthews now?

Does this take them out as a landing spot for any hope of Kyrie by bringing in Smith Jr.?

I'm getting roughly $82 million right now if I'm doing the math right.

I’ve been hearing about their FA’s that are coming for 10 years. All they ever got was Amare who was like their 3rd choice.

Fair concern. But I think this has been in place for a bit. Just my guess. But like you said, it's the Knicks, so don't believe it until you see it.

BTW, KP and Luka on a 1/5 PnR... WOO BOY, good pickup for them.

They either have to know KD is coming or know KP"s recovery is a mess. I think KP has a lot of questions to answer in terms of what level player he was...I'm not totally hating the deal IF Smith can play and IF the cap space goes to KD or Leoanard only. Kyrie isn't a max guy IMHO and Butler is a guy who thinks he's better than he is.

It's a very weird situation all around. KP apparently asked for a trade, and he told Dallas he's willing to sign the QO next year, so my guess is he made the Knicks aware of the same fact.

I am really not too broken up by this, as much as it surprises me to say it. I am almost certainly giving them too much credit, but there probably is a reasonable chance they think they can make a serious FA splash. And KP may never have committed long term to them.

But also it is the Knicks. So, you know.
