NBA Playoffs

I thinl Phil Jackson is the only person who holds the 99 title against Duncan like this
In SI in late 2000 or early 2001 there is a little piece where Phil Jackson takes a jab at Gregg Popovich for being credited with the 1999 title. Saying it was only 50 games. Phil is defnitely not a fan of the 1999 season counting.

I think Phil is also a fan of tweaking his competitors, I bet it was more that than anything else.

Kobe came out today saying they need to decrease the number of regular season games. He's now the fourth current or former player to suggest this. Riley, Dirk, he and Lebron. He thinks the increase in games at the AAU level is leading to more wear and tear on players bodies, leading to more injuries.

I wouldn't have a problem with decreasing the number of regular season games. If they limited the inter conference games drastically while dropping 20 games from the schedule it would make all the games more important.

The issue would be every player/coach/trainer taking a pay cut I would think...

With TV giving the league about 2 billion dollars a year that is the problem.

There is an easy way to reduce the schedule to 76 games.
30 games against the other conference home/home. 30 games
Then you play the 4 teams in your division 4 times. 16 games
Then you play the other 10 teams in your conference 3 times 30 games.

This would cut 6 games from the schedule and 2-3 weeks.

I agree, its not a simple issue. Just from a fan perspective 20-25 less games wouldn't bother me at all and it may spice up the regular season. I suspect they would have to lower it in very small increments over multiple CBA to ever reduce it that much without severely lowering the TV contracts.

This is way too extreme to ever happen but in the recent lockout shortened season I thought it was pretty cool when they had opening day on Christmas. Kick the season off on a huge national stage and fill it with a bunch of compelling match ups.

The Warriors, maybe better than any team since the three point line, score in bunches. You can go from up 4 to down 6 or down 2 to down 11 in a heartbeat. And those scoring explosions will happen once or twice a game. Just a small crack turning it over or missing shots you should make means they're taking it down and raining threes on you.

The only way to counter that is by playing great basketball, and there just aren't many teams even at this level capable of playing that high to overcome the Warriors in a 7 game series.

Yup, and with the center position not being a dominant one for most teams, they can switch on defense with those lineups and rarely encounter match-up problems. It's an interesting team - and they can get back in a game, or blow you out in a hurry as you mentioned.

I'd love for the season to start on Christmas and go later into the summer.

They couldn't even do it till the CBA expires, right?

It's so difficult to pull off, because then would you need to renegotiate the TV deals?

Ideally, you get a higher percentage of games on national tv.

That's a great way around it. Would probably help with ratings too as the first couple months of the season aren't being buried by college football and the NFL.

Should I wear a chef hat tonight? I kid. I will be wearing some sort of orange, most likely.

Wow. Good for you.

Never been to an NBA finals game before.

Yeah at first look, 150$ is a lot of money but I guess for this game, that's really good. Like you said, maybe once in lifetime chance, plus I like GS.

Buddy had some season tix and some playoff package, hence the price I'm sure.

I'd pay $150 in a second to get to an NBA finals game. I won't even tell you what the prices were for the Mets playoff tickets I got last year

should've waited until Game 4. Prices will plummet after GS wins Game 3.

Average ticket for games 1-2 in Oakland was 1600 dollars. Average itticket for game 3 tonight is 400 dollars.

Love ruled out for game 3 tonight.

The Cavs are about to get steamrolled. If they lose tonight, a sweep isn't just a possibility--I'd guess it is likely.
