NBA Thread 2019-20 Season

Ben Simmons lack of improvement has to be pretty concerning. He’s good but flawed...and has not improved an ounce.

I have heard enough with the Simmons has been practicing his jumper in the off-season narrative I’ve heard for 3 years in a row.

He's made 3s this year!!

I had this take last year, I'n not sure I posted it here or just said it to friends elsewhere, but I think if you dont see Philly in the finals this year there will be serious talk of trading Simmons.

He's definitely good, but A) there are serious flaws, and B) the fit with Embiid I don't think is fantastic.

Why is Chris Webber not in the HOF way before this year?

He had a great career that is comparable to Patrick Ewings.

Webber could only wish he had the same impact on defense as Ewing.

I agree that Ewing was an elite defender. Webber is a much superior passer.

Career PER is Ewing 53rd, Webber 55th. VORP is Webber 37th, Ewing 53rd.

Ewing has about 40 more win shares and a higher win shares per minute. Webber did deal with more injuries than Ewing. JMO.

Somethings missing from Philly. Routed by Dallas at home with Luka sitting out.

Whenever Embiid was tired (which was every game), their entire halfcourt offense revolved around Butler iso's and JJ Redick running around screens like a madman. They lost their two biggest pieces (outside of Embiid) and made no effort at all to replace them. That's why I'm not nervous about them in the East until they make another trade.

I would agree that Ewing > Webber (PER doesn't really do much to account for defense). But you can be worse than Ewing and still a HOF. I think Webber should be in.

Hot take: the only difference between Ben Simmons and early Billy Owens is that they let Ben run point(Billy had Tim Hardaway).

I made the comparison before the draft, but people like to forget how good young Billy was and wanted to shoot for the moon and talk Magic Johnson.
owens more gifted offensively, simmons defensively. owens derailed by injuries so we never saw how great he could be

I would agree. Simmons is faster and a little more athletic. Billy was a little smoother offensively.

Both are choke artists

Patrick Ewing was on the Dream Team in 1992.
He didn’t win an NBA title but he is a great player. Simmons book broke down why his career wasn’t as good as it could have been. College Ewing had off the charts athleticism and was a defensive force when he became a pro he lost that off the charts athleticism and was just good not elite at defense.
Ewing was a better player than Webber.
Webber’s career would have been interesting if he started his career as the PF next to Shaq in Orlando.
If Webber didn’t have the leverage of those old stupid rookie contracts he would have played C for Don Nelson in Golden State and that team would have been interesting.
Webber sabotaged his career.

From the article
"The stories about Robertson’s wish list made their way to the league office soon after Leonard made his decision, with concerned parties reporting that Leonard’s uncle had asked pursuing teams for much, much more than a max contract (Kawhi ultimately signed a three-year, $103 million deal with the Clippers). Sources say the league was told that Robertson asked team officials for part ownership of the team, a private plane that would be available at all times, a house and — last but certainly not least — a guaranteed amount of off-court endorsement money that they could expect if Leonard played for their team. All of those items, to be clear, would fall well outside the confines of the league’s collective bargaining agreement.

A source with knowledge of the Kawhi-Lakers talks said Robertson made those requests repeatedly to owner Jeanie Buss over the course of three phone calls that spanned several days, and that she made it clear that such perks were illegal and would not be considered."

J Grant with the close out and blocked shot on the corner 3 to win the game. Becoming a fan favorite fast, not that we didn't know that would be the case.
